Yeahh.. so it's stuff like this that makes me fear for the launch of the XBone
So if you aren't aware, there is a real-life smartphone app called iFruit (wonder where they got THAT from) that ties into the in-game experience. You can visit Los Santos customs & trick out a custom car which you can then go pick up in-game. There is also a dog companion that you can train using the app, to make him more useful in-game. The app also provides linkage to the Rockstar Social Club, which is an online site to keep track of progress in the various R* games. I used this a bunch playing Red Dead to track my 100% progress.
So - you've got one of the most hyped up, anticipated games of the year coming out. Gonna sell a TON of copies. Launch day arrives and...
You can't access anything on the app because of server overload.
I think I can count on one hand the number of successful launches of games that needed online server access. Good God I was there for the horror of Anarchy Online's early days.
From R* reps:
"We are aware of these issues with Social Club or related networking hardware/services and have been working to resolve them as quickly as possible," it says on its
support pages. "If you would like to receive an automatic email notification when these issues are resolved, please log into the Support Site and click Subscribe.
"Please note that we are aware of some reports about problems with the iFruit App (available on iTunes), such as login errors, endless loading spinners, and the app appearing to reset data. Rest assured that we are working to resolve this as quickly as possible."
When are they going to learn you can NEVER have too much server availability for a product launch?
