Now, you better be cheering for Broken Circle Breakdown.

Not because it's a good film, but because I know the principal actress would make a complete and utter fool of herself if she had to go on that stage :p

I'm leaving to get my screwdriver.
It's odd, there's plenty of movies on there I wouldn't mind seeing, and plenty of blockbusters...And yet, I haven't seen a single one of them, either.

I'm going to see one of them this evening, though :p

I just haven't been able to afford to go to the theater, and my wife has trouble sitting in most theaters for two hours or more. I usually go to movies with my son and he's not around any more.

Wow, the only nomation for Saving Mr. Banks is in original score? That's a shame. I thought it was one of the best films of 2013. I could have seen it getting nominations for best original screenplay, best picture and best actress in a leading role. Oh well.

Had to go down to sound editing before I came across a movie I've seen. Only thing in the best picture that I want to see is Gravity, the rest just look like Oscar bait and maybe if I see it browsing Netflix.

Your definition of "oscar bait" must be radically different from mine.

"American Hustle"
"Captain Phillips"
"Dallas Buyers Club"
"Gravity"
"Her"
"Nebraska"
"Philomena"
"12 Years a Slave"
"The Wolf of Wall Street"

Which of these are Oscar bait? This is a really fantastic list of films for the most part.

To be fair, that Bad Grampa nomination is only for Hairstyle & Makeup. Hardly the same calibre as Best Picture, Directing, or Acting.

Also, while I really enjoyed Gravity, I don't know if it's really worth of a Best Picture nomination. It was good, don't get me wrong; I just don't know if it was THAT good.

I DO really want to see most of those best picture nominations. I heard Wolf of Wall Street was great.[DOUBLEPOST=1389918750,1389918413][/DOUBLEPOST]I hadn't really heard of Her until recently and I was really unsure about it. I guess if I was wrong about Lars and the Real Girl being too ridiculous to be good, then I guess I can buy a guy falling in love with "future Siri".

Her does seem too far fetched to me. A man falls in love with a computer, and he isn't japanese? Pfft.

I've seen none of the films nominated for best film, director, actor, actress, supporting actor, and supporting actress. In fact, I've not seen any of the films in any of the categories up to sound editing, which contains the Hobbit, which I've seen.

I think this qualifies me for honorary screwdriver status.

i don't agree with it, BUT if you're playing this dumb game - captain phillips is REAL LIFE STORY, dallas buyers clubs is aids, twelve years is slavery, bla bla

it's kind of ironic, since a movie i actually thought was kind of oscar baity - the butler - got hella shut out

If you keep oscarbaiting you are going to go blind.

I did you a solid and jammed a screwdriver in each thigh.

It sure sucks being busy and gainfully employed with a family and not being able to watch every damn movie that comes out. ;)

You have your priorities, and I have mine. I didn't mean that to shame people not seeing any of these movies, I just more meant it as POSTING about not seeing any of these movies doesn't really add much. I try not to go into video game threads and post "huh, I haven't ever played this game before"

Normally I'd say you were correct, but sometimes there are legitimate reasons for not seeing a movie that are germane to the topic.

The funny thing is, I live no more than 5 minutes away from a movie theater with an IMAX.

I did see Desolation of Smaug twice! And Frozen! And Smurfs 2. Fuck yeah, I rule.

Smurfs 2?!? I pray that the kids were with you, otherwise I'm laughing at you. With derision.

Okay, JUST watched The Butler. That didn't get any nominations? That's surprising, because it was very good.
