I'm making this thread so I don't waste posts on the webcomic appreciation thread, which is supposed to be about good web comics. SO- in the recent comics the violent fembot tried killing the independent fembot and in so they both tumble into the famous "Reality zone". Now the reality zone is supposed to be just that a zone where if a cartoon character would go in, they would be shown as a realistic character. The exception of course being the devil who implied if he went into said zone, he would probably not exist there. So what would happen if two high tech super intelligent robots made by the devil's robot maker guy? WHY FREEDOM OF COURSE! Yes, not something LOGICAL which is the utter definition of thre reality zone like them disapearing from existence due to our science not being able to make robots of such caliber; not the independent robot losing her Independence as the concept true choice from a robot is most likely impossible; no what does happen is that the violent fembot stops taking orders from the robot maker guy. SO- this makes no damn sense. Why would going to the reality zone do that? The word robot comes from the czech word "robotnik"(I didn't know that was a real word either until "The World's End) meaning slave, so logically any personality that either would have would completely disappear. This could be the first time the reality zone would be shown as a bad thing, that sometimes its good for something unrealistic to BE unrealistic. But instead, we get YET ANOTHER ham fisted feminism metaphor.

Yeah. I haven't read Sinfest in about 5 years. By that time I started thinking it should have been renamed Snore-fest.

As I've said the last couple times this question was asked, he either got a new girlfriend, or wants a particular one, who is a raging "down-with-the-patriarchy" super duper feminazi. I've seen guys have these kind of personality changes before, and there's usually a woman to blame.
The devil girl comics are usually alright when he does them, or the Lil'E ones. But like Bones, I just can't stomach the prepubescent manhating tricycle gang stuff.

I've given up on Sinfest a few years ago too. It's still in my "other webcomics" list, and I'll visit occasionally, but the funny ones are few and far between. I mean, it's sad - there were plenty of beautiful stories being told - the nerdy guy and the...errr...blue devilgirl? Slick sometimes slowly evolving. 'Nique getting depth and purpose and all. Seymour and Li'l E changing.
The "all men are evil and should die - the Devil is actually controlling all men and women ahve to fight to break free" thing is just too overpowering and involved in all other storylines, making them, as well, unenjoyable. I don't mind a feminist message. I don't mind other political messages, either (plenty of his "earlier" America-and-Freedom comics still ring true), whether I agree or not. but at a certain point it's coming close to hate speech. This comic with the roles reversed would've been attacked by feminists a long time ago, and I'd have been in agreement.
Also, some of the Devil's spycams and such have entered the Reality Zone before - only to break and stop working. There's no reason at all to think the Reality Zone would make Devilbots human and free. Au contraire.

You were smart to leave when it JUST bored you, rather than the rest of us who were just annoyed and later disgusted.
EXACTLY- the fembots probably run on similar cartoony robot designs, so logically they should've blown up or just malfunctioned. Them gaining freedom I.E. turning human is the exact OPPOSITE of reality, its down right cartoony! You can't make a damn world where cartoony characters are meant to enjoy the rigid yet beautiful world of reality without having the basic damn rules!
On the very very very very VERY rare time of me praising current Sinfest, I do agree Devil girl and Lil' E are the best characters in that they aren't spouting some crappy agenda every damn panel.

Wow, I used to adore this comic! I remember reading through it from the start, getting all caught up, and then it stopped being funny and I gave up on it. I may have to read the earlier ones again!
Read up to page 4045, thats when things started spiraling into Kishin style madness.

There have been a lot of pages without punchlines, even back when sinfest was good, because it periodically tried to get "deep," affecting a sophomoric attempt at philosophy. While page 4912 is rather banal and devoid of entertainment value, it's not the worst example (though it is a very broad one) of what sinfest has become. It doesn't feature any sisterhood rugrats, for one, and if you ask me, they're the worst thing to come along in the comic, ever.
And climbing up trees to look at pegasi, can't forget that! Especially how with the addition of the man hatred, its pretty much exactly like a sunday comic he did in September of 2011.
Oh also Slick's frozen heart moved because he's a guy and guys are closed off to there emotions and bla bla bla symbolism. And while I can buy his heart being frozen, wouldn't that be from the years of rejection from trying to romance Monique? Yeah, remember when that was a major sub-plot?! Hell he even admitted that he straight up LOVED her at one point, but once again rejection to keep the plot going. That willthey/won'tthey sub-plot was one of the most interesting things about the comic and now Tats has just said fuck it and had them almost completely stop talking to each other. Damn shame.
I don't know. Yoshi said it all went downhill after 4045 - 4046 and 4047 are, to me, still relatively funny, when seen "alone". It's only as build-up to the whole femi-I-don't-know-what-to-call-it-fest they're annoying. As one-offs, the Matriarchy Trike Girl isn't the oddest or weirdest "one note" characters to appear. It's only odd that she managed to take over the comic
Trike Girl is not necessarily worse as a character than Mister USA or Lady Freedom, or Jesus Fanboy or Li'l E. The others have grown beyond their stereotypes, Trike Girl hasn't. Her one note has become the sole focus of the comic - as such, a comic like 4912 is what I think is so problematic - even the comics where the characters aren't directly invested in it are still 100% about it.
Oh, and also - I sometimes liked the quasi-philosophical Sinfests. This one's meaning is what bothers me. The "deeper" level of this one really does just seem to be "all men are evil, the only way for a woman to have interesting adventures and a fulfilling life is by swearing off all men, always, everywhere".[DOUBLEPOST=1392925178,1392925092][/DOUBLEPOST]My memory isn't as good as yours Yoshi, that one really is pretty much the exact same thing with "...and men suck" added to it.

The slick's heart arc has been slowly going a long time. It's because his "devil" self locked it away by watching porn. Slick's sworn off pornography, so now his heart is slowly thawing out again. I might expect in the next 3 to 6 months to have him transform into an emasculated, completely non-threatening anti-slick.
Actually regular Slick put it in there to protect it from himself to make him not watch porn, however Devil Slick was able to unlock the safe and get the heart use it to ...pay for porn. SYMBOLISM! Then Slick decided to quit porn cold turkey, causing the safe to be IMPOSSIBLE for Devil Slick to open. Months later, Slick decides to open up the safe seeing that his heart- HAS FROZEN! So basically what we've learned here is that complete abstinence from sexual urges leads to an icy heart and its okay to watch porn and have sexual urges like any normal human man! That's not what he probably meant, but its how I'm interpreting it.
How am I sure of the story? Because I just did a post-good Sinfest binge and skipped all the non-Slick comics! So...almost all of them.

I think 4711 sheds light on how Sinfest came to suck so bad. It used to be gaudy parody, then it just turned vapidly preachy. One of the author avatars explains...

Dear lord, this comic is so smug it could cause a storm front. "I, cartoonist hereby agree to relinquish ownership of my soul in exchange for fame, fortune, and fangirls." Delusion aside, really? Making your old stuff was akin to selling your soul?
...Wow. I hadn't seen that one. I mean, that's just....What? His earleir works were also playing off stereotypes and making fun of arrogance/mysoginy/entitlement, weren't they? Did I miss the memo about being supposed to read those without any sarcastic or ironic subtext? That's beyond ridiculous.

Does anyone else worry that his Yoko is him with a wig? I've said it before, but the new strips REEK of crazy. And not the fun at parties Kanye West crazy, I mean the scary Alan Moore/Frank Miller crazy.

Today's was pretty good. Generally the devilgirl story stuff is ok. Probably because the story isn't drowned out by anvilicious social commentary. But it does kind have a fridge logic moment..
"Wait, Satan was young during the modern age at some point and didn't own everything yet?" And it's odd that current-day satan is 10-15 years older than this one, but the girls have barely aged at all.
