The Undisputed Unified Wrestling Thread

The divas in the WWE should be ashamed of the bullshit performances they produce after seeing Emma and Paige put on what they did there. It sucks that they're booking Emma like she's straight up Sean Penn in I am Sam special on Raw too.

That submission Paige used at the end was one of the coolest and difficult to pull off looking things I've seen.

There was talk a while ago about AJ Styles coming to WWE, but I don't think anybody's gonna want him much now. His finisher, the Styles Clash, just broke Lionheart's neck in two places, (he has movement in his arms and legs) almost broke Roderick Strong's neck, and botched a move which nearly dropped Jay Lethal right on his head. Nobody's going to want to even work with the guy at this point.

Not to mention that he's in his 40s and would have to pretty much start from scratch with a new name in NXT and such. Neither party has the patience for that, I think. And apparently Styles himself has absolutely no interest in signing up with them.

In other news, there's a strong rumour going around that CM Punk is 99% confirmed for RAW tomorrow night and will very likely be put into the main event along with Orton and Batista. I'll believe it when I see it, but it's amazing that his walk out wound up giving him what he wanted.

I'm not surprised. The fans haven't been into the returning stars too much; the WWE is deathly afraid that the WM main event will get mercilessly jeered throughout the entire thing. They need Punk there, and it's basically the only way to save that match now that Bryan is booked.

They've done very little to build up any younger guys, banishing them to the mid card in favor of aging vets that won't last forever. Kofi should be a headliner. Ziggler absolutely should be a headliner, but because of a few comments, he's been buried deeper than shit, and is likely to be let go when his contract is up. That guy was the second coming of Chris Jericho, and they fucked it up terribly. Cesaro needs to be pushed. Instead we get the same retreads, or extremely bad calls like frigging Ryback, who has fewer moves than an NES fighting game. Even Daniel Bryan isn't getting the big push because his popularity happened on its own, and not by Creative's design; that has legitimately pissed off HHH. They've mismanaged an entire generation of talent, and the poor decisions of an entire decade will come back to haunt them. It's already starting.

Worse, they've been continuing to stay the course and ignore what the fans have wanted for years. It's to the point now that even general audience - not just the smarks - have rebelled against the product. That's a BAD sign and WWE has no clue what to do with it. Personally, one step in the right direction would be going totally cold turkey on authority figure characters and storylines. It's been going nearly non-stop as the main storyline since the Attitude Era. They also need to start showcasing titles other than the world title like they used to. The IC title is a joke now, the tag team division is nearly non-existent, and the woman's title is relegated to models who can't wrestle.

What's extraordinary is while the majority of the stuff going on has been crap, they CLEARLY still know how to push guys properly when they feel motivated. They've made Roman Reigns look like a trillion bucks and is starting to get some really strong reactions from the crowd. Hell, I'd argue that all six of The Shield and Wyatts have the potential to be future main eventers if given the chance. I REALLY want Dean Ambrose to get a harder push. I see him as the next Piper.

That match that Bray and Reigns had one on one showed that they still need to protect the shit out of Reigns and how limited he is without a tag team to hide his weaknesses as a singles guy.

Also, BOOOOO to the WWE Network dubbing over the old WCW knockoff themes. Jericho should be coming out to knockoff Even Flow and Raven should come out to knockoff Come as You Are.

Damn it, I want knockoff themes!

Kofi Kingston doesn't deserve a main event spot. He's even less dynamic a wrestler than John Cena (who strangely is probably hampered in ring more by his top guy status than ability). Dolph Ziggler's head injuries are what really killed his last push. Cesaro was in the main event of the last ppv, got a good amount of time in the Royal Rumble. He's being pushed, just not like a rocket. He was great during his US title run in 2012, but the audience didn't seem to give a shit about him until he Giant Swing'd Santino until he got a reaction. Since debuting he's been booked strong, won a secondary title, put on fantastic matches, and no one in the crowd gave a shit until he started swinging people by the ankles. All the blame there goes to the audience.

As much as I love Daniel Bryan and wanted to see him in the Main Event of WrestleMania, he's still main eventing every week, headlined a string of PPVs this fall, and at least twice since SummerSlam has gotten the entire last hour of Raw devoted to him. If that's not a big push I don't know what is.

This image seems to be making its rounds on the 'net. Seems to be a list of objectives by tonight's Chicago crowd.

Personally, I would LOVE to see everyone turn their back on Batista/Orton/HHH/Steph segments.

They went from a rushed, shitty exact replay of the week previous with Cesaro and Big E and then followed it up with that incredible Wyatt/Shield match? How the fuck can those two segments have been okayed by the same people?

Well, now it really looks like Punk is gone for good. All the hype, no Punk appearance, trolling the Chicago crowd about Punk. (They knew about the hijacking plan.) That's a hell of a dick move on their part. And, once again, showing they have nothing in the tank, Raw ends with Bryan on his back...again. Can we get a Raw that doesn't end that way? Seriously?

We all know what's going to happen now. The crowd at Wrestlemania is going to raise an absolute shitsorm. I thought it would just be limited to the main event, but not anymore. They're going to drown out everything with chants and turn the whole thing into a disaster. I can't blame them.

Shitty ending aside and a couple of eh segments, that was honestly one of the better RAWs I've watched in awhile. It's amazing how they took what could've been a disaster show and wound up having the audience eating out of the palm of their hands. Heyman starting the show like he did and seamlessly tying into the current storyline with the Undertaker was absolutely brilliant.

Adam Rose you guys.

Frank you have the Network, did you catch Adam Rose's debut on NXT?

[EDIT] I was so excited about Adam Rose, that I forgot I already mentioned it.

If Bryan is in the championship match, I'll watch it. Otherwise I'll just turn mania off right before the main event. Some real-time metrics for them.

I think Bryan winning the belts is the only way they don't get blasted for WM. They gotta realize Bautista can barely go five minutes in a match anymore. He could work as a team guy, but a singles champ? He just doesn't have the stamina.

I let my free trial lapse. After all the issues with NXT Arrival I want to wait and see how they do with Wrestlemania before I plunk down for 6 months. Also, they're apparently negotiating new TV contracts soon and I'm hoping for better Raw and Smackdown representation on the network.

I'm going to a house show tomorrow! :minionhappy:

Raleigh is one of the stops of what they are billing as the Road to WrestleMania tour. Local ads have Cena and the Rhodes brothers vs the Wyatts, and Daniel Bryan vs Corporate Kane on the card. I'm hoping for something close to that. The last house show had a completely different card from what they were advertising (no complaint, got to see Ziggler/Cena in a cage). I know, I know, card subject to change. My greatest fear is that we'll get something like Cena/Orton, or Batista/anything.

Summer Rae is billed from Raleigh. I hope that means we'll get to see her wrestle.

Lucky bastard. I haven't been to a live show in a long time. They don't go through the Maritimes very often. Though I did manage to see a live RAW and Smackdown while I was living in Toronto. It was the RAW where Cena and Trish main evented against Santino and Beth Phoenix. And the Smackdown where Jeff Hardy had just become the world champ, taking on Big Show.

Man, so back in 93, when Jerry the King Lawler was heeling it up in the WWF, at the same time, Vince was sending his guys down to Jerry's Memphis promotion where he played face and they were all heels.

Long, long before the Mr. McMahon character would be born in the Austin Attitude Era stuff, you have heel Vince playing it up for the Memphis crowd.

And Vince wearing Jerry's belt.

And other bizarro land shit like Bret Hart high fiving Giant Gonzalez while heeling it up on Lawler.

It's too bad the tape rights are so mangled and that all this lost shit will likely never land on the network where it would be amazing to take a trip down into some mostly lost wrestling history.

House show report.
IMG_20140328_191407.jpg

Byron Saxton was our MC/Ring announcer. Referees were Charles Robinson (li'l Naitch) and Rod Zapata. Before the show started we were invited to tweet and text pictures and things to display on video board. As well as vote on how the Bella Twins and Eva Marie :)fu:) vs Aksana, Alicia Fox, and Laylah would be played out. Our options were a 6-woman tag match or a dance off.

Before the wrestling we're treated to some pre-recorded promos from Damian Sandow and Jack Swagger. Damian was telling us to be polite and stand up and clap for him. Swagger was talking on the phone with Zeb who wasn't showing up at "this town" because Zeb doesn't like "this town" at which points Swagger notices the camera, hangs up, and reminds us all to cheer and to stand up straight and tall. Put our hands over our hearts, and say in a loud clear voice, "WE THE PEOPLE"

First match was a triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship. Big E Langston vs Kofi Kinston vs the Miz. It was fun watching Big E truck people. Sadly I couldn't get a five chant going. It was a title match at a house show. I'll let you figure out who won.
Rating: :):)

Next up the 6-Diva tag match. Eva Marie is the absolute worst person I've ever seen in the ring, and I watch Botchamania regularly. No believable offense, inability to sell anything, and a botch on the one thing she attempted more complicated than a sholder tackle. The pop the Total Divas got made me sad for humanity. I made sure to boo as loud as I could. Total Divas picked up the win against Aksana the Terminator and her teammates. I forget who got the pinfall. Who cares.

Real Americans in the building! Antonio Cesaro, Jack Swagger, and Zeb Colter come down to the ring, and Zeb picks up a microphone. Not going to lie, these guys are great, and Zeb was possibly the best part of the show. He mentioned how glad he was to be in South Carolina (boo). When corrected by Swagger he says who cares, the Carolinas are the same anyway (BOO). Zeb wonders why the crowd is so irritated as to be booing him, then assumes it's because none of our basketball teams are still in the tournament. Quick aside, this is evidence that Dutch Mantell has worked around the south for decades. If he had named a specific school 2/3 of the crowd would have been cheering him. College Basketball is serious business in this state. One corny joke later and Zeb Colter threatens to send Jack Swagger into the crowd to slap "each and every one of you" across the face if we boo him one more time, then decides other wise because he'd rather have Jack in the ring to slap their opponent instead.
Rating: :trolol::trolol::trolol:

Their opponents are R-Truth and fake geek girl Xavier Woods. I hate both of them It was fun watching the Real Americans beat them. 8 complete rotation on the Giant Swing (and I counted correctly).

Daniel Bryan vs Kane was our main event before the intermission. Bryan went after Kane to fast for me to try and get a Hug it out or Hell No chant going. Decent match, about what you'd expect. Ended in DQ when Ryback came out (in his only appearance) and started attacking Daniel Bryan. Bryan fights back and just when he starts losing...

SIERRA HOTEL INDIA ECHO LIMA DELTA!

The Shield run out from the side of the stage to rescue Bryan. We get to see a Superman Punch (looks awesome) a spear, and dives outside the ring by Rollins and Ambrose. Face Shield is truly something great.

Rating: :banana::banana::banana::banana:

And that brings us to the intermission, where I will also be taking an intermission to get some actual work done.

House shows are the best. I've been to a few Raws and Smackdowns through my life, but the most fun shows were the smaller house shows.

I'm watching the Hall of Fame thing on the Network right now. Jerry Lawler is proof that the ban on shit like blading and such is the best move the WWE ever made. Hopefully making hamburger heads like his and guys like a New Jack a thing of the horrible past. Also, Jerry Lawler sucks. Way to introduce DDP as DDT, you fucking plastic surgeried mong.

Lita's speech was great. Michael Hayes in the video packages is continually embarrassing in that wahjah way. Jake's speech was incredible. Mean Gene Okerland is about 200 years old, has the tiniest amount of old age wavering in his voice now, but he still has the best announcing voice there is. Mr. T's was a rambling mess of a speech. Undertaker not breaking character for the Paul Bearer induction was kind of lame, but zombie Undertaker after so long is also pretty lame. Kane's speech on Paul Bearer's behalf was pretty rad though. Paul Bearer's sons though, genetics man. GENETICS. Scott Hall only got like 2 minutes for his speech, thanks Mr. T. Your 300 year speech was definitely necessary. Carlos Colon's bit was great, even though I am basically unaware of his work. Carlito was funny there too. I like Warrior's speech and him being honest about how stuff like the Rise and Fall of the Ultimate Warrior DVD made him feel was great.

Overall I'm only bummed out about the random little person comedy stuff they decided to cram in for no reason. Such carny nonsense. Oh, and Scott Hall's bumped time for his speech and Jerry Lawler.

Watching Mania right now. The only blemish on the show thus far has been the Shield only getting like 26 seconds. No one even got a proper entrance in that match. Real fucking waste. Everything else has been top notch. Even the cluster fuck battle royal had some fantastic spots in it.

Also, the Network has been flawless. They really got their shit together for this show. Good job.

Oh, one other complaint now while watching Cena/Wyatt. JBL, Cole and Lawler all need to be fired. They are each and every one fucking awful.

SPOT OF THE SHOW: The Spanish announcer guy, who used to be Del Rio's manager/announcer and who's name I cannot remember off hand pointing Bray at the new French announce table. I larfed. Loudly.

Real let down of an ending there.

Undertaker's entrance was longer than the entire Shield segment. Fucking retire already. There isn't a single person in the world that thinks Lesnar has a hope in hell of going over Undertaker. Lesnar has won, what, like a single match in the year plus he's been back.

He looks like one of the guys that raped Edward Norton in American History X now.

Foot meet mouth.

Match still sucked.

Man, commentary misses JR. He would have sold the shit out of what happened. ARE THESE FUCKING GUYS ANNOUNCING GOLF?

Wait. Fucking Brock Lesnar got to beat the streak. He does like, three matches a year, and gets to beat Taker? No torch getting passed? Brock's a part-timer who will probably just quit again in a year. Fuck that. They should have let Punk beat him a year ago. It would have at least had meant something.

Yup, that was SUPER underwhelming. I like Brock, but he's been booked like absolute shit since his return.[DOUBLEPOST=1396836605,1396836482][/DOUBLEPOST]The divas are in the most unenviable position ever. This could be the greatest match in the history of the world and the crowd would shit on it.[DOUBLEPOST=1396836934][/DOUBLEPOST]That divas match was legit better than Brock/Taker.

The entire point of the divas match is to cleanse the palette for the main event and get people to the merch stands, always has been under Vince.
