Also did not see it until I was an adult. I passed it over several times due to its incredibly twee movie poster until someone whose opinion I valued told me during a SF/F Convention that I had to watch it, and then dragged me down to the movie room do make good on her threat.
I have enjoyed it ever since.

I... I have never watched the Princess Bride from start to finish. I've only seen small segments, such as the duel between Wesley and Inigo.

I found out that three of my theater friends have never seen this movie. So I grabbed it on Blu-ray for $5 and now I have to find out a time when we're not crazy busy. (My friend Jordan is taking 5 classes, working, and is in a theater production.) It'll probably happen over Spring Break.

I see it at least once a year. My kids and wife all sit and watch it every time. I don't even have to invite them, they just see it on and whatever's going on is just put on pause.

I don't see how Gilg can "disagree" with the fact that I've never watched the Princess Bride all the way through. :p

I really should remedy this though, shouldn't I.

I hit disagree, too, only because there isn't a "Oh, HELL NO" rating. :D

Love every second of this movie. It's a true classic fairytale, even with a few very 80's moments tossed it. I can't wait until Li'l Z is old enough to watch it.

A few years ago, I decided to take my 28th birthday off from work (it was a weekday) and headed down the Shore by myself to relax. As I'm walking towards the boardwalk, there's a mom dropping off a small group of teens, who couldn't have been older than 14. She leans out the window to wave to the kids and says, "Have fun storming the castle!". It caught me so off-guard, I started laughing. The kids look at me, and I'm like, "Your mom is awesome!".

So I was at a friends house doing laundry Tuesday (my machine broke, not worth getting into) who has a copy of the movie. I suggested that we watch it so I can finally have seen this. Amazingly enough it she couldn't find it. :confused:

Who knows if I'll ever see this movie.

This is always my first house date movie. The runner up is Raising Arizona.

It gives you a good idea whether or not they are a stick in the mud.

This movie was part of the reason I broke up with a guy! He had seen it before and I hadn't, so we rented it to watch at my house. I don't mind people who talk during a movie, but he felt he had to explain everything to me. I walked into my kitchen to get a soda and he gave me a run down of what happened in that 2 minutes as if I couldn't hear it through the wall. I asked him to stop with the explanations since I'm far from being an idiot who can't follow a simple plot. He got insulted.

So I went ahead and rented this from amazon yesterday.

"Please consider me as an alternative to suicide" is my new favorite pickup line.

I think in my single days, any guy that tried to pick me up with that line would have gotten my attention. :)


I had this conversation the other day:

Me:"I need to get the batteries in my car keys changed. One's dead and one's mostly dead."
Him:"Mostly dead?"
Me: "Yeah. Every time I press it, it just says 'To blathe!'."

Some of Errol Flynn's swashbuckling extravaganzas may come close, but they lack intellectual dialogue about swordfighting schools. And of course they never spawned such lovely remakes as this one (not really original, but I loved it since I first saw about 11 years ago [Gosh, that's old])

Is it wrong that I get choked up at the pure nostalgia that parody brings me of such an amazing film and an even more amazing fight scene? I had no idea I'd have such a reaction to just the dialogue after these many years.

Nothing wrong with that. I showed my girlfriend the movie while we were still dating (over 12 years ago) and it still is our absolute favorite, we both get goosebumbs as soon as we hear the first few notes of Storybook Love.

Had my movie night with friends on Saturday. Only a couple who hadn't seen the movie before managed to make it, but the ones that did loved it.

Also, holy crap is this movie beautiful, and even better in HD. I think every other time I've seen this movie has been on VHS or analog cable. I'm not even sure I've seen the DVD version. However, the Blu-ray looks gorgeous.

On a similar note, I just learned yesterday that Patricia Tallman, who played the redheaded telepath on Babylon 5, also played the possessed deadite who attacks Ash in S-Mart at the end of Army of Darkness. Mind = blown.
