I may be on this weekend, but due to my trip and other extenuating circumstances, I probably won't be playing until the 26th or 27 at the earliest.

I went through Act 5 on master the first time. Many deaths occurred, those enemy spawn bosses ripped me a new one, every time. stupid skeletal archers.

That depends on who I'm playing with, mainly. I prefer to play on the highest difficulty I can so as to get more&better XP&stuff. If/when it starts to get too hard, I'll knock it down a notch until I get some better gear. This usually means I end up with characters who have high survivability but who have a hard time killing enemies quickly.

I'm away for 4 days moving, so there's some prime leveling time lost while I go play at being an adult for a week.

I know how you feel. I'm off all week and can't play. But the guy watching our house is!

i've been using the Unique Orb that gives 2 extra Magic Missiles since level 60 or so, the item's level 52. I finally found another off-hand that claims to give me +25% damage, and has a +14% on Electrocute - so maybe I could change out my MM for Electrocute again, change my playstyle a little? Meh. Numbers go way up, but with Electrocute and the new item Ghom takes 58 seconds and with MM and the Unique orb he takes 23 seconds. Add the fact that my MM are piercing and....yeah, I'l lbe throwing around triple fireballs for a while longer :p (both times at Master, for clarity's sake - I still suck :p)

Keep in mind that some modifiers (those listed with a small diamond next to them) on items are -not- calculated into the stat % changes on the display.

I'm 70 now and working on bounties. I started a rift but went afk too long I guess and it timed out. The rift dropped a legendary weapon for me though that was amazing while I was clearing!

I'm playing on Master and now that I have a few set pieces/legendaries, I'm not finding it too bad. The only bad part are the treasure goblins. Am I the only one that can't kill them fast enough?

What happens in Torment? Do the same set pieces drop but better versions?

Treasure goblins in torment suuuuck! Master is the last level I was able to clear them and even then it was hit or miss depending on what other monsters were around.

What really sucks with them are when I'm trying to clear out everything except them and my buddy the templar starts to ineffectually wail on him. I have to drop everything and give chase but it's usually too late.

These little buggers are my prime motivation for increasing my damage output. My toughness is really high and I can kite bosses pretty well, but none of that means anything to a goblin that you can't freeze, stun, slow, or even stay within punching distance before he decides to hop through his portal to Screwyouville.

Yes and no. Set pieces which drop in Master and below will still drop in Torment, but they have decided that some sets simply will not drop unless you are playing in Torment difficulty. For the most part, these are the class-specific sets, but it also includes things like the legendary potions and follower items.

I have a bucket of diet coke and a lot of health potions...torment here I come!
Start at III and dial it back as needed. Right now I is perfect for me. I keep waiting to find some of these "torment only" drops I keep hearing about.[DOUBLEPOST=1398526200,1398525877][/DOUBLEPOST]By the way, this chart should help out a bit to decide things.

[DOUBLEPOST=1398526614][/DOUBLEPOST]I had to look up what the "uber keys" were and found this: http://www.diablowiki.net/Infernal_Machine

Apparently there's a few monsters who are keybearers. You get all 4 and you can build a portal to some super duper boss fights for astounding loot. But I'd think I'd need to be Torment V or VI for that.

If you're geared to the point where you struggle with treasure goblins on Master, you absolutely shouldn't start at Torment 3. The difficulties are designed for you to move up gradually as you get gear - if you jump in halfway up you're going to take so long killing anything, and probably rack up enough repair bills, that you're just creating frustration where there doesn't need to be any.

The best advice I can give is to push into Torment 1 as quickly as you can in order to unlock the possibility of the exclusive drops, then stay there until you feel like it's as easy as Master was before you switched. Move up one difficulty at a time and try to keep the difficulty more or less stable and you'll always feel that you're making progress while (hopefully) getting useful drops a little bit quicker. The other thing to keep in mind is that you're only gaining 15% drop rate per difficulty, so if your goal is to get gear and you clear a level lower more than 15% faster - say by being able to switch passives from defensive ones to damage, or by switching out a damage skill for one that lets you run faster - you're actually increasing your drop rate by going back down.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that the difficulty here isn't like it is in an FPS - the highest one isn't there with the idea that the best players will pick it from the start and get by because of their skill. The system is designed to present a challenge through the stages of gearing, and you should be looking to move up after getting solid drops; rushing it just slows you down.

Edit: you can do keys starting at Torment 1. Same as anything else, you clear everything faster for a slightly lower drop rate. Do it when you want a break from other kinds of gameplay - if it's like the level 60 version the ring you make has no level requirement and gives a bunch of bonus xp, making it great for leveling new characters.

I have the plans to make the weapon/portal.

I did most of the Act 2 bounties on T1 with no troubles. Zoltan Kulle destroyed me and I swapped to Master for him. On Master I killed him easily. I'm probably geared somewhere between the two levels. I only have 17 paragon levels if that's a factor. Speaking of which, they are shared between characters?

Yes.

If you want a rule of thumb, try this. If you are killing the elite packs (3xblue or YellowGuy+buddies) in one minute or less, then it's probably time to increase the difficulty level.
I will echo the above sentiment. The other difficulties exist so that you can gain exp and get good enough gear to be able to play in Torment I. Once you are able to reliably play T1, then that should be your main play area until it gets too easy.

The key system has been revamped. You can no longer get the parts to build the same machine that you used to (unless you didn't get the expansion? I'm not sure). Now you are building a new lvl 70 ring instead of the older lvl 60 ring.
Bonus: The older lvl 60 Hellfire rings (the ones named "Hellfire Ring of xxxxx") and the new lvl 70 ones (which are simply named "Hellfire Ring") are not the same, so you can supposedly wear one of each. I have not built a lvl70 one yet, so I cannot confirm this.

So I found this weapon while I was playing my level 70 Monk. I noticed it had a secondary effect. I put it into the stash and loaded my level 44 Crusader.

Yeah. I think I'm switching weapons.

Yeah... at level 60, playing as my Wizard on Torment is kind of pointless. I guess I'll have to get the DLC at some point.
Make sure to make yourself a bunch of Hellfire rings before you get the expansion. Because I already upgraded, I don't know (and can't test) if you can still get the parts (eye/fang/spine) for the lvl60 Hellfire rings from the Uber bosses. If you can, make some good ones, because I believe once you get the expansion you can only build the lvl70 rings.

I have the staff.
As do I, and I'm a bit annoyed that I can't upgrade it. I never bought the plans, you see, so I'm forever stuck with the Nightmarish staff. Even though I have the plans for the Infernal staff, because I never bought the plans for the Hellish staff, I can't upgrade it all the way. Waah.

--Patrick

Do the staff levels matter now to access it in Torment?
Nope. The quest mechanics don't care about your chosen difficulty level any longer ("you can't do that in Nightmare, have to at least be Hell difficulty), because it's all one game now. Monster difficulty depends on the level of the party leader now, not the chosen difficulty category. It's like the current difficulty levels (Easy/Hard/Expert/Master/Torment) just determine the base monster difficulty (we'll call it X), and then your character level determines the multiplier (X*1 at level 1, X*17 at level 17, etc). This is not arithmetically accurate, but it's a reasonable approximation. As far as the staff goes, you'll notice there's only one staff for everything now, and the other three don't even have recipes any more.

I managed to get the [amulet] that makes you immune to Arcane Damage. It is the single best item I have ever had in game.
I've changed my mind.
This dropped on me a couple nights ago when I got the chance to play.

Before the Auction House closed, this is something I could've probably sold for $150-$200 in real-world monies. I'm scared to try and reroll any of the stats.

My Monk is going to be so happy.

I tried to reroll a legendary item last night and got worthless. And since it took a super-mega diamond, I can only do it once. The stat was dex. On my Crusader.

For the most part the new loot has been great! Last night I got an amazing legendary mojo for my WD and I honestly don't know what I would change with an enchant. I'll post a screen shot later.

I like to keep an eye out for alt gear too. I keep getting bows with intellect on them. Why do these exist?
