True story, the first time I saw Kelsey Grammar playing Frasier on Cheers, he IMMEDIATELY became the voice of Beast in my head. I was so excited when that casting was announced and so disappointed when the movie finally came out and he ended up being a minor character, at best.
As for the subject at hand... I'm REALLY worried about this movie being over-bloated. I'm fairly certain that it's a justifiable concern.

ALL the original X-Men cast will probably die, if they're sticking anywhere near the comic version.
For the record, I'm STILL brooding about them killing off Cyclops in X3. The first infuriating scene of many.
Yes, but that was before he had to compete with the "classic" actors like Logan the "I get two of my own movies" Wolverine.
Man, I hate hate hate how they treated him in the movies. Dude is a master tactician and trained in multiple forms of hand to hand combat, plus is optic blast is STUPID powerful.
Dude gets his ass kicked by Toad, spends 90% of the first two movies looking like he's about to cry, and then gets fucking evaporated in the third. The only thing they got right was his borderline-stalker obsession with Jean.
I liked the moment in X3 when Wolverine stumbles on the scene where Cyclops found Jean, and you see the rocks floating--and then Cyclops's glasses. It was eerie.
... and that's the only moment I liked. I thought they were going to find him alive later, but no. I certainly didn't think the movie's final line would be (paraphrasing) "nice job, furball".

Seems to me they kept his death off-screen in case of future sequels.
Joke's on them, of course, he's not going to be in Days of Future Past (as far as I'm aware), so they might as well have shown him dying.
But yeah, turning Cyclops into a massive weenie was one of the things I disliked about the X-men movies.

And that was right in the middle of his decent into becoming the new Magneto, so not representative of him overall.Nah.
Actually, I think it made for a stronger scene for them not to find his body. Not giving Brett Ratner or producers any credit; just a stroke of luck that they ended up being indecisive.
Not that it matters; the movie's still a piece of shit. If a perfect casting choice like Kelsey Grammar (my thoughts on that mirror Bowie's) can't save that movie, a single moment of restraint wouldn't have a chance. Man, that movie sucked.
I like how at the end, Magneto is allowed to live free as an old man in the park just because he doesn't have powers anymore. Um, if you take someone's weapon away, that doesn't change the fact that they killed a shit-ton of people. Argh, stupid movie!
I honestly can't think of any time he's really been that bad, outside of the Jean stuff that Wolverine does too and in the movies. Maybe the 90's cartoon, I can't remember much of it.
Say what? That wasn't even remotely close. Whedon's arc where that page comes from is almost ten years old and the whole "Scott going evil" is only like two years old.
You haven't been paying attention then. Scott's been moving towards the darkside for years, starting mainly with House of M when mutants became an endangered species. This is well after he established X-Force as the wetworks branch of the X-men. This is all the stuff that lead to Schism and eventually t AvX where he officially goes evil.
I'll take evil Cyclops over brown-nosing, milquetoast, self-righteous Cyclops we've had... always. I've always been inclined to think "Shut up, Scott!" every time his dialogue balloon would pop up in an X-Men comic. The movies always left me torn because I really like James Marsden, but since the first movie established what we're all thinking ("...You're a dick." Thanks, Joss!), I've given Cyclops a pass.
In other words, James Marsden did a really good job.

Pretty much. Him dropping out of his contract forced them to have to alter the story to write off the character.
Whether it was done out of malice for him leaving or just as a way to prevent the audience from questioning where Cyclops is during a movie that heavily involves Jean Grey, who knows.

The problem is Jackman's Wolverine is basically carrying the entire movie franchise on his back. If he ever gets tired of the role I wager the whole franchise is going to sink.
Fun fact: Bryan Singer's first choice for casting Wolverine in the first film was originally Russell Crowe.
Just got back from the movie and this is the X-Men movie that I wanted. Best of the franchise (IMO) and one of the best movies based on comics. And best Wolverine since X Men 2. Quicksilver was so entertaining I wanted to see more of him. We finally get to see the X-Men in a couple of serious battles and it's glorious. I don't want to say too much about the movie until others have seen it but I left the theater pumped up and was ready to walk back in and watch it again. I don't think you all will be disappointed.
I just saw it as well, and I agree with the sentiment. It is the best X-Men film yet and, honestly, feels like a true culmination of the franchise. Not just in bringing together cast members old and new or bringing back Bryan Singer to direct, but in how the story touches and feels its influence from throughout the series. Highly recommend that folks go out and see this.
Also, there is a post-credits scene.

Still, it sounds like it's good enough to at least see in theatres. I think I've said before that I'm not the biggest X-Fan, so I'm not in a huge rush to see it.
