Movie News & Miscellany

Stargate wasn't a very good movie. Shows were excellent, but the movie was blah.[DOUBLEPOST=1401415026,1401414585][/DOUBLEPOST]After reading the deadline article, I'm really disappointed in this news, rant to come tomorrow but suffice to say MGM doesn't understand that Stargate being one of their top franchises has next to nothing to do with the movie.

The new director of Ant-Man rumors are already flying.

The only one of those with any real action was Zombieland, so hopefully that's the director we get.

I just watched World's End last weekend, and man now I am beyond sad Wright is gone. The fight scenes were so great.

I think that's great. He's a solid horror director.

Snide but deserved comment: thank god it's another movie about a white male superhero. I'm tired of all these minorities and women getting starring roles.

I thought a Black Panther movie was being strongly considered, as well? Maybe I heard wrong.

Honestly, they could do well to put together that and a She-Hulk movie sooner than later. The latter would be a big middle finger to DC for not doing Wonder Woman.

I honestly think we'll get Ms. Marvel or Black Widow as movies before She-Hulk.

I thought I had read Carol Danvers was cast for AoU, and with the Kree being introduced in GotG thanks to Ronan, a Captain Marvel movie is totally possible.

Apparently the Marvel rumor mill is churning about Jared Leto in talks for the role of Doctor Strange. Honestly it's been awhile since I've seen any of his movies so I can't say for sure how I feel about it.

No, no, you've been reading that wrong. The internet has been saying that Jared Leto IS strange, which isn't a rumor. :awesome:

I kinda hope neither of them get it. They're already well-known for iconic pop culture characters (primarily Sherlock and Bane respectively). Give it to someone else.

Personally, I wouldn't want either. Both because they've both done so much already (like @ThatNickGuy said), but also because I think a Hispanic actor, or some other minority, might serve the role better. I'm not terribly familiar with rising stars in Hollywood these days, not of any ethnicity, but I'd take Michael Peña (loved him in End of Watch) over Hardy or Cumberbatch.

I admit my knowledge of Dr. Strange isn't an informed as other heroes, but from what I remember, he would be a good candidate for some much-need diversity in Marvel casting. It would be nice to see someone of Hispanic or maybe even Asian descent leading the film. I would argue that it worked for Nick Fury; both in the comics and on film, giving Fury that "Sam Jackson" touch made him less bland/generic.

Like others have said, Hardy and Cumberbatch are fine actors, but they've already done so much within the genre. Let Dr. Strange be fresh for audiences instead of carrying around a well-know actor's baggage.

Cast a minority as a second string comic book character? Why do you hate white people Celt Z? Are you racist against white people? COME ON. ;)

They'd be playing with the character origins and story a bit (the horror), but I would like them to cast a someone who could pass as Nepalese or Tibetan and re-frame the story as a "returning to the rejected customs of the old country" story and also possibly high-light the troubles in Tibet.

That said, if they do cast a white American or British actor, I really hope that they DON'T make it about Tibet.

Well, there was already a black Nick Fury before the movies, so it wasn't a total out of the blue casting choice. Nick Fury in the Ultimate universe prior to the movies was pretty much based on SLJ.

That's what I meant about "in the comics" and why I listed it before the movies. In any case, the point still stands that it can be done and done well.
