New PETure Thread (aka: Pet Pic Thead)

Here we see the victorious predator using the carcasses of her victims as a pillow. It is as though she taunts any and all cotton-filled creature to dare step foot into my roo-er, her lair.

So my wife is trying to grade papers and my sister's cat (whom we adopted from her once she moved) has decided that cuddle time is now and no amount of school work will get in his way:

I have to spend some much time on Li'l Z lately, I don't think our other "kid" gets the spotlight nearly enough anymore. And he should; he's been a very good dog for the past 10+ years.

This is Tofu, named so because when we got him, he was small, white and wiggly.

( Also, we got rid of that ugly green carpeting. Seeing it in the photo still makes me wince.)

So, I got a cat. I'm an avid dog person. I never thought I would have a cat, but I do...

I think it'll be a while before I can handle having another dog. I know I'll just compare it to roofus, and it'll never live up, and that's not fair. My fiancee and her daughter are cat people, so I decided to take one in.

Meet Oscar! He's already taken over my laptop. He's got 6 toes on each of his front feet, and is the nicest cat I've ever met. It's good to have him around.

It's funny, but as a sworn cat person, I'm quite taken with our puppy. It's odd having a pet that listens to you.

That said, I can't imagine that the dog will ever be as good at sitting on my lap while I play video games. These cats are professionals.

(Here's my oldest looking regal on our couch.)

Eeee! Polydactyl kitty!

This is Pepper Roni, he is 14 year old cockapoo, he has a tough life, that blanket is top of his bed, there is an electric heating pad built in to it. He eats oscar-meyer turkey 3-4 times a day. he gets as many treats and as much love as he can handle, he has a very hard life.

Question for all you cat owners. Oscar seems very needy. If I close a door and he can't get in he will sit and meow constantly, and at night he seems to meow almost every hour looking for attention. It's making for some really long nights. My guess is it's due to the new house and leaving the old owners. I'm hoping it'll get better over time, any suggestions on how to speed it along?

Let him sleep with you and make him even more massively needy.... oh wait, that's what my sister did and now I live with 2 massively needy cats....

I honestly have no help for you, just sympathy. Don't let it get to this level... you'll never be alone.

you'll never be alone.
What is this "alone" that you speak of? Trips to the toilet seem to require the presence of at least one of the pugs, if not both. One of them will actually look into the showed to check on me or the wife if he feels that the water has been running too long.

Oh heck, while I'm at it, here are the dart frogs too. Dendrobates auratus, Panama turquoise-and bronze color morph. On the left is Cersei, the alpha girl, next to the Doctor, male. Peeking out to the right is the beta-but-won't-accept-it female, Margaery. (Plus 17 tadpoles and counting!)

... why do I fear that you also have a blow-gun?

My little guys are getting old. The black one, Loki, is starting to lose his hearing.
But they're still very cute together. Tonight they keep "hugging" sort of, where they face each other, hook their necks around each other, and close their eyes while bruxing.

We brought the baby girls home today. They've never lived in a cage this huge with so much to do, and after living in overcrowded filth in the hoarder's house, I'm sure it's a relief. They zipped around the cage for an hour, and they plopped down exhausted. I should've taken a picture of them together in the carrying case; at this point they're so bouncy it's impossible to get a picture of all four sitting still together.

Here's two females fascinated with a tadpole that the male transported from the love hut.

And here's two other females with strong cuddle game.

Pet question. I'm allergic to cats. I don't mind, but it's reason enough for my girlfriend not to want to get a cat (though I suspect she just likes dogs better :p). I'm slightly less allergic to dogs, so she wants one of those.
Unfortunately, we still live in a small apartment (67m² - about 720 ft²? Part of it would by necessity be off limits to any pet, though).
Thing is, I still work random hours - 12h-shifts, nights, weekends,... She's unemployed (and bored and lonely...Gee I wonder why she brings up the whole I-want-a-dog-thing again :p), so right now there's be someone with them most of the time. If and when she gets a new job, though, any pet we get may have to be able to go 12 hours without people. There's a small terrace, so they can get out, but no yard or garden or anything where a dog might run or crap - so being able to hold it in for 12 hours is pretty important too. I'd gladly go on walks before and after shift if I have to (slightly less glad at 5am in wintertime, but fairly few dogs enjoy an hour-long walk in those conditions anyway :p). Also, if I were to get a dog/cat, I'd want one I can actually pet, and/or cuddle/play with. If I wanted a pet to look at and admire from a distance, I'd get an aquarium. Or just turn on any random streaming video of kittens.
She enjoys looking at Animal Planet or looking through magazines and saying things like "oh look, a French Bulldog! Perfect for a small apartment, they can be alone, they like cuddling, they're smallish! let's get one" or "Oh hey, ragdolls cats are so awesome! They act half like a dog, and they can be left alone for a long time, no hard allergic reactions!". And, you know, I've met plenty of purebred cats to know that, yes, in general, I'm less allergic to them. Dogs, ditto. But if I were to get a dog/cat, I'd hate to get an expensive bred bloodline thingie when there are way too many poor kitties and dogs in pounds/asylums/homes/etc.
I've tried to bring up other, possibly more viable pets (rats, ferrets) but she's not all that interested. Not sure what to do.
Ideally:
-> Can be alone for longer periods
-> Can ride in a car for an hour or so
-> Likes to pet/cuddle/play
-> Can either use a box or hold it in for 12h
-> Not too allergenic
-> Can live in a smallish apartment, if taken out regularly for exercise
-> I'd rather spend €800 on pet equipment or donations than on buying a purebred anything.

Do you think we could give a dog or cat a decent home, or, as it unfortunately seems to me, would it just end up with a pet that either misbehaves or is plain unhappy because of the living conditions?

@ZenMonkey the frogs seem perplexed. Cute though.

@Bubble181
I don't think your living conditions are ideal for a dog. A cat could be okay, but that busts your allergy thing. A hamster meets many of those requirements, but won't cuddle or play. Rats/ferrets can't be left alone for long periods.

There's really no animal that meets all of those requirements. Pets that give you a rewarding experience take a lot of time and attention, pets that can do their own thing tend not to care or know you exist.

For my stuff,
