Watched 2 movies today..... one with Stallon and Arnold in a prison break-out movie... premise started well enough then it became a lackluster rambo movie that didn't make sense.

Second movie was the 2nd Thor movie.... got bored 15 minutes into it. Am I getting old or did was this movie a far inferior product? Loki is awesome but Thor is such a sad sack that I feel bad for Chris for taking on that role as he looks he can do far better than that.

Wife and I were right there with you. So bored in the theater, except for Loki's bits, but even he seemed out of character at times. Didn't pick up until the last 20 or so minutes where the movie got fun. Hopefully Thor 3 has a less boring villain and doesn't try to force sadness when it isn't earned.

I desperately want to see a crossover fight between MCU Thor and Man of Steel Superman. I think Superman would win, but it'd be a good fight.

How to Train Your Dragon

Well, I was going through withdrawal after the power went out near the end of seeing the second one. And I didn't feel like going to see it today so soon after the kerfuffle yesterday, so decided to sit back and watch the first one again.

Still an amazing movie from beginning to end. It really deserves all the awards it earned back in 2010.

I realized something, though, after watching this and its sequel yesterday: some of my favourite moments in movies tend to have flying in it somewhere. Superman, obviously (especially the first time he discovers he can fly in the Animated Series). But also the flying scene in Avatar. Every time, I get a lump in my throat and my eyes well up. Really don't know why. Always loved flying scenes and, if done right, always have this awe-inspiring reaction from me, even after multiple viewings.

Well yeah, he'd just
kill Thor.

Also Thor 2, like Ant Man, had a shitload of issues before release, from what I understand.

Oh don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed Thor 2. My biggest complaint is how criminally underused Eccleston was in favor of shoehorning in more Loki. Apparently almost all of Malekith's fleshing out was dropped for reshoots/rewriting.

I am. It was great and feels incredibly fun. It was a longer version of the prison scene from the trailers but seems condensed from what will be in the final film. The banter between Starlord and Rocket was hilarious.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Picked up the BluRay for $10 today. It even included a voucher to see Dawn of the Planets of the Apes. I'll definitely be using that this weekend.

And yeah, it's still a great movie. I watched some of the special features, too. Some of the deleted scenes are surreal, since they're unfinished. They still show the actors - like Andy Serkis - moving around and acting in their mo-cap outfits.

Future Shop also had a nice BluRay box set of the original series of movies for $20. I might pick it up. If I do, the code on the Dawn voucher that's inside is free for the asking.

The new Robocop was boring, and Lone Survivor wasn't very good either (bad movie - compelling book).

RC had so many great actors, but I just didn't care about the protagonist.

LS had so many silly cliched story elements (yes, I know it's based on true events, but there is story telling and then there's Hollywood story telling.

I don't think that I care for Peter Berg as a director. Collateral was fantastic, but everything else he's made has been lackluster.

I saw Dawn [...] Apes last night, and I LOVED it. There were some scenes at the end that were borderline comical (don't know how to spoiler on Tapatalk).

It was even more eerie and disorienting than the first. If you liked Rise, go see it!

Ip Man: The Final Fight

What my friend sold to me was an awesome action film, what I got was an INTENSE historical drama with action scenes spliced in. A truly beautiful film.

Alright, I've got a fair bit of movie news for you all.

Yesterday, Guillermo del Toro did an AMA over on Reddit. He gave an update on The Haunted Mansion, which he will be producing. They're on a fourth draft, still trying to crack how to make a film that will capture the feel of the ride, namely in having it be intense but yet with a sense of fun. The Hatbox Ghost (originally planned for the ride, but didn't make the cut) still seems to be the central figure to it, with odds being that del Toro wants Doug Jones for the part. Also, it looks like Hellboy 3 won't be happening. Guillermo did talk about what he planned for it, which would have Hellboy facing his destiny as a key to the Apocalypse and channeling his power to become "the best of the Apocalypse" to take down the big threat.

On a bit of good news, Roberto Orci is no longer involved with scripting the Amazing Spider-Man franchise! Even though I'm still not interested in what Sony is doing with the franchise, this is at least a little less garbage involved in the production.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes: No, I didn't get the titles mixed; it just took me until now to get time to re-watch this one. Still a really fucking good movie. I enjoy noticing more details each time.

Like the apes from the zoo being dumb at first, but as they spend more time with the apes from the lab and the sanctuary, the virus is being passed between them like it gets passed between humans later, so by the time they get across the bridge, they're standing with the others.

I also love how the apes have a sense of bigger things as the movie goes on. Caesar passes up going home with Will because of the other apes. Buck gives his life to save Caesar because he knows Caesar is crucial, that he's the one making all this happen.

There's a ton of other stuff, but this is just such a good movie. This is the third time I've watched it in the past year, something I used to do often with movies I liked in college, but recently I just don't do much in the way of re-watches. This one's just got so much good going on. Becoming a favorite.

My wife needs a night out after some fresh fun new bank stress today, so we actually are going to see Dawn tonight after dinner. Hoping it's as good as Rise despite the change in directors.

From what I'm hearing, Dawn is just as good - if not better - than Rise. I'm going to see it tonight or maybe tomorrow, depending on how tired I am. Don't need to be up early for work tomorrow like i have been the last two days.

Damn! My apologies. Posted in the wrong thread. Must not have been thinking clearly. Thanks for the head's-up.

By the way, saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Another superb film that builds well from the last movie, with its look at the conflict between man and ape well-written, with good and evil on both sides.

Also, holy shit, I saw an ape on horseback dual-wielding machine guns.
