[Movies] Guardians of the Galaxy

People actually thought A Dame To Kill For was going to be good? I thought we had already collectively given up on Frank Miller ever producing anything worthwhile again.
At what point did he lose the plot?

Is it something which has gone gradually as he got older or did something happen?

I love that DC is trying to catch up to Marvel by doing the exact opposite of what they're doing, tone-wise.

"Franchising is the only reason these movies are popular."- DC executive

"But, Bowielee," you may say. "Isn't that true?"

I point to Guardians of the Galaxy. Only loosely tied to the other movies to those unfamiliar with The Infinity Gauntlet. Almost completely unknown by the non-comic public, and even to some who do read comics.

Is it wrong I read that in the voice of the Hidden Master in Valley of the Four Winds? ;)

Watched this movie yesterday. It was surprisingly good. I'm usually not a fan of hero movies with too many characters but it came out well enough. Nowhere near as awesome as Edge of Tomorrow but I'd place it #2 movie so far... will prolly fall to #3 in December...

You know what would be cool for the sequel's soundtrack? Late '70s classic rock. Peter Quill was born in about 1980 and J'son of Spartax (his Dad) took off approximately 9 months before that. J'son missed the disco era but he would have been around for Kiss and Aerosmith.

I could very much see that happening.[DOUBLEPOST=1409854915,1409854831][/DOUBLEPOST]On another note, Brolin did a good job of portraying that weirdly likable aspect of Thanos from the comic.[DOUBLEPOST=1409855031][/DOUBLEPOST]Or his dad is the hulk which explains why his mom got cancer.

Thanos: No, Peter... I... am your father!
As someone who was unfamiliar with the comic versions of GotG, this was my first guess as well when I watched the movie. I thought it was a neat explanation for why Quill could handle the infinity gem and not get immediately zapped.

I don't think Yondu and the ravages would want to pass a guy like Thanos off by not delivering his kid to him.
They act like they pulled one over on his father, like they were confident he'd never get back at them for it. If it were Thanos, they'd be looking over their shoulders every five minutes.

Exactly what I was thinking. I do think, in the end, it will be an Eternal, but I don't think Thanos is the right fit.

I'm sorry, but I'm having childhood flashbacks about all the funny feelings Lea Thompson's pantied ass in "Howard the Duck" made me feel.

I suppose it's an inevitable result of the internet that I see that gif and it's just somebody on the floor, non-sexual and irrelevant? I mean, after some of the shit we've all seen, you know?

Maybe, but on the other hand, we know of 3 people who are going to be tuning in to Dancing With the Stars(?) this season.

There's a rumor going around that Loki is the father. Mostly because Yondu described Quill's father as a jackass, and Loki certainly is a jackass. I don't buy it.

Well it sure would fit the ancient moniker, but does not really fit the fact they also said it was an unknown race (at least I am pretty sure they said something to that affect). As far as we know the Asgardians are well known among the galactic community.
