[Gaming] Diablo 3 : Ser Farm-A-Lot

Wow, crafting Flawless Royal Topaz... this crap takes FOREVER. Here I thought the D2 gems were a bitch to craft. Oh, and I've still never seen a unique gem.

Have you been running the new type of rifts? Because they only drop from the end boss in those, and they seem to have a pretty common drop rate from what I've seen.

There's almost no reason to craft anything past flawless square any longer, because by the time you start getting them, you're only moments away from marquise gems.

Is that an online mission? My X-Box won't connect online (too far from the craptacular router).

Cripes, the more I play this game, the less I feel like I know.

I have no idea how the consoles work, everything on pc is online.

In adventure mode, you do bounties to obtain rift key fragments. Those fragments open a rift using the npc and the obelisk in town. The rift boss, once killed, has a chance to drop a greater rift stone, which when used in the obelisk will open a greater rift, where the only loot is dropped from the end boss. But the end boss drops great loot, and almost always drops a unique gem. At the end of each rift level, you then get the choice to upgrade one of your legendary gems in power, or to go to an even higher difficulty greater rift.

But if you're stuck playing offline and completely solo, uh... well, I suppose you can run rifts by yourself, but it's going to be pretty slow going.

I've never had a greater rift stone drop. I've been running adventure mode for quite a while now (Since making level 65 or so, and I'm now Paragon lvl 74, so over 70 levels).

Wow, almost always drops a unique gem? I'm seriously missing out since in all the Rift runs I've done (believe me, it's a LOT) I haven't received a single greater rift stone. Not once.[DOUBLEPOST=1410869487,1410869018][/DOUBLEPOST]Ok, did some research. Looks like Torment 1 should have a 20% chance to drop a fragment. Heh, that hasn't happened yet, so maybe once I up it to Torment 2 or 3 I'll have some better luck.

It could also be that lacking a group, you don't get the inherent bonus magic find that you get by being with other people.

Not to mention that this co-op bonus is multiplicative, not additive. It also might not be nerfed like the item MF%, I'm not sure about that one.

How rare are the Greater Rift keys? I've run rifts all morning (at least 10) on Torment I and gotten nothing. I ran a few on Normal - 3 or so - at less than 5 minutes and got nothing.

Am I just unlucky?

They only drop on torment and above, I believe, and should have about a 20% drop rate. You could just be unlucky. Are you running with a group? Because that drastically increases the chance to drop.

Nope. I was solo. I hate PUGs and nobody I know was on.[DOUBLEPOST=1410974063,1410973705][/DOUBLEPOST]And now I'm going to try out ArcheAge quick and see what it's like.

Pugs actually aren't that bad. Just make a public game, select rifts as the option, and you'll instantly drop into one where rift running is the main goal. You can run a lot of them in a short amount of time that way.

Okay I WANTED to try ArcheAge. Downloaded the client, updated the patches...two hours later I log in and every server has a queue of at least 1000 people. Log off, back to DIII.

So when running rifts in a PUG, do we ignore all treasure except legendaries or set items? Or do people gather stuff?

I pretty much ignore all yellows, just because they tend to go through pretty quick, but you're free to pick up whatever you want. You'll want to put one movement spell on your bar at least, because with a proper group you'll be clearing through at high speed.

Greater rifts are easier, as the only loot that is dropped is from the end boss.

Bottomless Potion of the Tower. Khule Aide? Egads, there's more than 1?!?
Oh yes. There's even a season-only one out right now.

I ran about 5 rifts in 3-4player (seasonal) public games before I finally got a stone of trials. I immediately tried it out. Got tiered at 5.
So I run through a level 5 GRift, seems OK, reach the end, choose to have rift gem upgraded to 9, also get 2 legendary gems.
So I immediately go through the level 9 GRift make it to the end boss with plenty of time (thank you no drops!) but get killed.
This is where I learn that you can't resurrect at corpse in a GRift. Have to go all the way back from the last checkpoint. Die again.
Back to checkpoint one more time, time runs out but I kill GRift guardian, get a third legendary gem. Upgrade one of my gems 3 times.

Here's where I discover that you don't get to keep the greater rift key if you don't finish the boss in time. Soo...here we go again until I get another stone of trials.

I did the exact thing tonight. Ran, started at 8, upgraded to 12, ran 12 flawlessly with time to spare and upgraded one of the gems...and then I found I couldn't get back in. I was pissed.

Oh? I assumed it was because I ran out of time, not that "if you upgrade gems you give up your rift key."

--Patrick

If you finish the rift in the time limit you have the choice of upgrading your key to whatever new tier it thinks you deserve or upgrading some gem(s). If you don't finish in time, you can only upgrade gems.

Either way, once you upgrade gems that set of greater rifts is done.

I also recommend you leave the trial at the beginning (just town portal) and start at rift level 1. Rift level 1 is equivalent to normal mode, greater rifts have their own difficulty and aren't affected by you playing on normal, torment, etc. You can breeze through a level 1 greater rift with ease, and it's still got some great drops to loot at the end.

You can manipulate how far up you jump by how much time is left after you defeat the boss.

And yes, when you upgrade a gem, that's the end of that greater rift run. Also, as your gems get higher in level, they require higher level greater rifts to upgrade them. If you have a level 10 gem, and you clear a level 1 rift, attempting to upgrade it will likely fail.

Are gems all only able to fit in rings or amulets? Or are there other kinds of gems that you'll get?

Legendary gems can only fit in jewelry.

Also, each legendary gem can only be looted once on a single character. Whenever a legendary gem drops for you, it will always be one of the ones you don't already have. If you want two of one, you'll need to first move the first one to a different character, as it still counts it if its in your stash.

Also, I joined a bunch of public 4-person T1 games.

I had 5 trial stones in less than an hour. Also some nice legendaries. Also about 8 more paragon levels.

My seasonal WD is finally 70! I would love to run some seasonal rifts or greater rifts. Not going to lie though, her gear is rough!

I'm also up for non-seasonal stuff on my other WD or DH :)

The drops with four people on high torment are just silly!

I got a DH up to level 70 seasonal. First time I've ever played DH. I don't know if I just suck at the class, but it feels extremely weak, whereas my monk, crusader, witchdoctor and wizard were all able to dominate at low torments with this same amount of gear, the DH is struggling.

DH is hardcore support, I have never been as strong as the other classes when i play my orginal DH.

DH/Wiz are high-DPS support chars. They have plenty of survivability "tricks," but they function best as artillery with a tank along to draw the enemies' attention.
...or also as a team of four where they can mow down all opposition due to 4x DPS storms.

My DH has crazy dps but is super squishy. I've taken steps to improve that but I still have to vault around like crazy to live on higher torments.

This is true, but I would say that a Wizard has much more survivability than a DH and is WAY easier to play.

I must not have specced my wizard well then. She's much sturdier than my DH but she's not a fast killer. Her grift level is quite a bit lower than either my DH or WD.

On that note, I would love to do Rifts with my demon hunter sometime if people are doing them. Feel free to message me if you see me playing WoW or something.
