[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

Actually... looking at the episode list, we still have two more episodes this year: House Guest on the 2nd and Space Race on the 9th. So that wasn't the season finale and those episode titles seem... leading. Things may actually get even crazier.
You're right, I thought this season was 26 short eps and they were just back-to-backing seasons one and two. Dear lord, this show's been out more than a year and they've only shown half of season one! Weird.

The Simpsons Guy.

Look, I haven't watched or really liked the Simpsons in over a decade but fuck, this was like watching it's execution. This wasn't a Simpsons episode mixed with a Family Guy episode, it was squarely and entirely Family Guy and it shows just how shitty Family Guy has always been when compared to the Simpsons. Really fucking wretched. The malignant, edgy non-humour of Family Guy was on full display and they were apparently so hurting for material (while giving Lois and Marge zilch to do and Lisa and Meg relegated to DUUURRR GIRLLZ CAN'T BE FRIENDZ ONLY RIVALZ) they decided to have Homer and Peter fight for what felt like 10 fucking minutes. Ggggh.

The only almost funny joke was a sad jab about Bob's Burgers needing to be carried by Simpsons and Family Guy.

-10/5

Thank God Brooklyn 9-9 is back. My Captain Holtless life was nearly unbearable. Still the best comedy on TV.

That was almost exactly my reaction.

Though, I guess in their defense, they did acknowledge a lot of this in the episode itself in a very self-deprecating way.[DOUBLEPOST=1412091122,1412091050][/DOUBLEPOST]The one funny joke was when Homer starts throwing Emmys at Peter, and Peter says, "No fair, I don't got none of those".

I'm so glad most of Peralta's undercover was offscreen. I wasn't really looking forward to that arc this season and I think skipping it was a good move.

Just about done with s3 of Clone Wars.

IT'S FUCKING CHEWBACCA

Man, s1 was a bit bland and s2 was better, but s3 has just been fun as hell.

The latest episode of Survivor. Seriously do none of the people on this show practice how to make fire? Idiots. Stop giving them food and let the rats eat them already.

So the newest episode of Clarence got PREEEEEEEEEEEETTY REAL. In the opening Jeff goes on about how he is very particular in how he does things even throwing out a sack-lunch his mom made for him because it wasn't just right. And the way he acts in this episode...yeah its pretty clear he'd be autistic in the real world. Plus his genuine freak-out when he didn't get into the gifted class kinda reminded me of some of my freak-outs as a boy, this show can hit you sometimes.

Gracepoint: Why did they both making this if it's just a shot-for-shot recreation of the original? Just air the original!

That's the broadchurch adaptation right? I'm going to say accents, although maybe it will get changed up as the show goes on and cultural differences become to hard to ignore.

Steven Universe: Okay... I'm getting some inconsistency here. The Gems don't understand or KNOW what school is despite living on Earth for a good long time... but Pearl can completely repair Mr. Universe's van? Not just the body, mind you... but the entire engine AND transmission?

I think that's specifically Pearl, she seems to pick and choose what aspects of human culture to take stock in. Also there's the thought that she simply learned how to fix a car after reading the manual only once, she is pretty much the Donatello of the group.

I watched Alone in the Wilderness last night on PBS. It's a documentary about a guy that built (with hand tools!) a cabin up in Alaska and lived up there for 30 years. He kept journals and was an amateur naturalist. He served in WWII too (wikipedia says WWI, which would be amazing for an infant). I would seriously love to build my own cabin with my own hands. I really admire self-reliance and hard-work. This guy is my new hero.

Also, what the hell is up with the way they're raising Steven? It doesn't make sense. Why haven't they taught him anything about what they're doing, and why? The more we learn about the gems, the more they seem like real assholes to me, and abusive to Steven as well.

So you remember how back in May Jeremy Clarkson was warned 1 more offensive remark would see him sacked? He decided to drive a car in the forthcoming Argentina special with the license plate H982 FKL. Argentinians are, predictably, offended & chased the Top Gear team out of the country 3 days before they were due to leave.

Bets on whether the BBC will follow through on sacking him?

That looks to me like Argentina is just too easily outraged.

To an extent yeah they are - they also complained that Hammond's & May's cars had references to the Falklands War as well in that they had the numbers 269 & 646 which were close to the number of British & Argentinian casualties (actually 255 & 649 respectively) which is clearly a BS complaint.

OTOH Argentina is known to be sensitive on the Falklands issue & if I was on my final warning at my work over my conduct to coworkers and I then said something which most people would laugh off but I said it to the 1 person that I knew would be offended by it? Then I'm the asshole in that situation & my bosses would be perfectly entitled to sack me at that point.[DOUBLEPOST=1412371328,1412371059][/DOUBLEPOST]
They were a fool to threaten him, and they'd be a fool to follow through on their threat.
Oh yeah no question they'd be a fool to sack him since that would be the end of Top Gear which would normally be way too successful to cancel. But if they don't they look weak & basically give him carte blanche to continue offending everyone. Damned if they do & damned if they don't.

The BBC is already considered weak and banal. They might as well be weak and banal without losing a popular show.

I mean, what's next, are they going to threaten to cancel Doctor Who for being too convoluted?

Hey now! The BBC is not always weak and banal! They'll fight to the death for the things they really believe in. The TV License Fee for instance. Or the, um, the...well OK just the TV License Fee. But they're very firm on that.

I just watched the season 10 premiere of Bones. This show has definitely gone from goofy fun to just plain stupid. I'll give it one more episode to be fun again, otherwise I'm done.

Still working on Clone Wars. I'm really impressed that the show manages to make me care about the Clone troopers, in most cases moreso than the Jedi/Senators. Rex is awesome, and having just finished the General Krell episodes of s4

I was genuinely sad when Hardcase sacrificed himself. I'm kind of annoyed none of them ever suspected Krell to be a traitor, though, they've all (Rex and Fives especially) worked with enough Jedi to see Krell was not a normal Master.

The thing about Clarkson in this case: This isn't like when they blatantly take shots at other countries. ie "The Dutch, tallest people on Earth, officially. Also, they do a lot of drugs. Must be why they like Top Gear so much." or Hammond's remarks about Mexico: "Cars reflect national characteristics ... a Mexican car's just going to be a lazy, feckless, flatulent oaf with a moustache, leaning against a fence asleep, looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat." That one's totally justified in being complained about.

But the Argentinian complains are, like, Bible Code level bullshit. " the Porsche 928 driven by Clarkson had the number plate "H982 FKL". It was suggested that this referenced the 1982 invasion of the Falkland Islands, with the '982' relating to the year, and 'FKL' the Falklands. The Lotus driven by James May had the number plate "N269 KNG". It was suggested that 269 referenced the number of British Soldiers killed in the Falklands war in 1982 and that KNG makes reference to the Kingdom; finally the third car which was a Mustang had the number plate "EKH 646" where the number 646 was suggested to reference the number of Argentinian Soldiers killed during the war, and the EKG was suggested to reference "Enemies Killed" and also the name of a Knife Gurkha Soldiers used to behead victims at the time" Well, maybe on Clarkson's license plate. Maybe. But the other 2? Uh... Also, the knife used by Ghurkas is a Khukri, not an EKH or EKG or whatever.

To elaborate, I thought it was a great pilot. A couple of cringe worthy lines ("I think that lightning bolt chose you", ... really? You're an idiot Ollie), but a good start to the show. I particularly like how the tone is vastly different from that of Arrow, despite being made by the same people and being a spin-off the creators understand that the two characters are quite different and while making a third-rate Batman show works for Arrow it wouldn't for Flash. To bad David Goyer and Zack Snyder will never figure that out.

Don't know how intentional it was, but the shot of the murder scene where we're introduced to Joe West and he's walking up with his older partner, coffees in their hand, making small talk? Made me smile.

Grodd reference was great. Especially since it's done in such a way that it doesn't close the door on him ever showing up. Sadly, I don't think it's likely, but with the tone of the show I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

So outright Time Travel. No dancing around it, just straight up rolling with it. Yup, character has a holographic newspaper from 10 years in the future, what of it? Great, just great.

I can't wait for season 3 of Arrow tonight. Have a pot of chili ready to go and everything.

Steven Universe:

Gem "controlled" planets? I was right... the Gems are part of some evil pan-galactic empire.

Also, it was weird as hell to see Pearl just completely override Mr. Universe like that... I'm guessing Gems don't have parents and have no concept of lifespans.
