Maybe it was Fuzhou then. It gets hard to keep track when they keep switching back and forth in the middle of the hearing. The interpreters keep having to say "he or she", and sometimes when they just assume, it ends up being wrong.[DOUBLEPOST=1412219804,1412219770][/DOUBLEPOST]Chinese doesn't? I really don't know outside of my cases; so I only get what's being translated into English aka what the interpreters say.Since he said Mandarin, I assumed he meant verbal.
And yet they never ask if the speaker is referring to gods or animals in court. Lazy American justice system. If it's an interpretation, then yes, there would be no way to distinguish between male or female third person pronouns in Mandarin, since they're pronounced the same way: ta.
Terrik's already shown they're written differently for "he", "she", and "it". As an interesting aside, there's also the pronoun for gods and other divine beings (祂), and animals (牠), both also pronounced ta.
I'd imagine they will soon, because as we all know, gay marriage will lead to people marrying their dogs and cats and horses and Xboxes. And yet they never ask if the speaker is referring to gods or animals in court. Lazy American justice system.
I'd be more inclined to believe that was the case if the line immediately previous to it didn't think it was important to point out that the target was bigender.Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Certain countries have those as official pronouns, and I don't know what you'd call someone both genders--"it" doesn't really work. It may not even be an issue outside of English; I know Mandarin doesn't use gendered pronouns, which is really annoying in immigration cases, so perhaps Japanese is the same. No idea; I know almost nothing about the language.
Oh, that says bi-gender! I was reading it as big-ender and assuming that was some term used in the game.I'd be more inclined to believe that was the case if the line immediately previous to it didn't think it was important to point out that the target was bigender.
Yeah I did the first time too. I was like, "What the fuck is a Big Ender?"Oh, that says bi-gender! I was reading it as big-ender and assuming that was some term used in the game.

This isn't one of those tonal things, is it? Where "ta" can mean 15 different things depending on inflection?there would be no way to distinguish between male or female third person pronouns in Mandarin, since they're pronounced the same way: ta.
Nope, all the same tone. This isn't one of those tonal things, is it? Where "ta" can mean 15 different things depending on inflection?

Perhaps true? It'd be stronger to just show the xe, xem, etc, and then have it discovered later, I suppose.I'd be more inclined to believe that was the case if the line immediately previous to it didn't think it was important to point out that the target was bigender.
That's... just... what? I mean what?Perhaps true? It'd be stronger to just show the xe, xem, etc, and then have it discovered later, I suppose.
On the other hand, it's not like it's being respectful to bigender people anyway--at the end of the level when you encounter the adept, you get such colorful lines as "I've got every kind of plug to please anyone" and other implications that the adept just wants to fuck everything and possibly kill everything. You don't even get a weird as hell boss fight based on this--the bigender adept is dispatched in a cutscene by a vengeful guy whose outfit resembles that from Assassin's Creed. Then he becomes the boss of the level.
Yeah, considering what happens after the screenshots Ash posted, it's hard to say they're trying to nicely depict anyone in this circumstance. Tumblr it is not.That's... just... what? I mean what?
Actually, it sounds very tumblr to accept a psychotically sexually confused person threatening people with dildo innuendoes, but still insist on referring to them by the proper fabricated pronouns.Yeah, considering what happens after the screenshots Ash posted, it's hard to say they're trying to nicely depict anyone in this circumstance. It could only be more tumblr if there were fedoras involved.Actually, it sounds very tumblr to accept a psychotically sexually confused person threatening people with dildo innuendoes, but still insist on referring to them by the proper fabricated pronouns.
Okay, point. I was considering the people who correct the SJWs, but there are many more SJWs than people who correct them.Actually, it sounds very tumblr to accept a psychotically sexually confused person threatening people with dildo innuendoes, but still insist on referring to them by the proper fabricated pronouns.
That's probably the best article I've read on the whole thing in awhile. My fundamental problem with the media camp so far has always been it's totalitarian methods: it wishes to enforce compliance through shame and ridicule because it believes it's objective justifies their methods... that making gaming "better" is worth roasting their adversaries. Considering they've received death threats and harassment, this is an easy position to take. That doesn't make their methods justifiable... if the only way they can make gaming "better" is by pushing out the opposing views, they really aren't any better than fringe nut jobs who keep threatening them and they certainly aren't making a future I want to be a part of.I thought it was nice that some sites have startedposting things about how nobody in the media *indie or MSM* is pointing out the bullshit that's going on.
All of this stuff happening in the indie/gaming press, I can understand if not condone, they're circling their wagons. Larger Media, when a lot of this truth is marlakey or half-truths, should have had their fact checkers do their actual job.
That's...specific.And that's coming from me, the fifth worst admin JCM had ever seen.
He was a complete 4-way lug wrench.Forgot how much of a tool JCM was.
True, but his verve did not make up for his arrogant, snide, dismissive bullshit attitude. But seldom boring.
You say that like those are negative qualities.True, but his verve did not make up for his arrogant, snide, dismissive bullshit attitude.
