Dude, you're nuts. Use IRON BLOCKS: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Beacon#Activation
So if you wanted aesthetics, then OK, but even then you can mix with iron underneath, and only a "shell" of emeralds (though that's still a LOT of them!).

I have more emerald than I do iron, by a huge margin. I have maybe one stack of iron blocks, while I made that beacon and still have 3 stacks of emerald blocks left.
Soooo Sad..... Very sad. I finished the iron titan at last, a beautiful thing with mounds of iron golems spawning and falling to their doom, giving their bodies of iron to the heat of lava melting them down to ingots to flow through the chests.
Then, then it happened. Had a lost connection with the server and couldn't log on till this afternoon. I was worried that the dispenser had run out of things to keep the chunks loaded. Nope, it was still good, but no golems coming down, nothing at all. I pillared up to look at the farm and finish cleaning up the wings on the side. I found that I had lost villagers in one of the holding cells, thereby breaking the whole thing. Going to clear out the spawn pads and restart the door chaining again. Soooo sad. Should be able to try it this weekend again.

Thanks for the offer. It's not just that I lost them, it is also that since they 'glitched out' it broke the village chaining that made the amount of villages for the farm. Therefore it requires a whole redo of the build, restacking all the doors and what not. I'll just wait till the weekend to start again, it'll give me the chance to put in an overflow protection circuit.
I do not think myself a monster, I fed them and gave them shelter from the zombie horde. The least they could have done was stay happily in their tower and not try to force their way out of my perfectly decorated provided accommodations.

If you're looking for a monster, I'm the one who capriciously declares villagers to be heretics and pushes them outside the village and into special holding pens to be eaten by zombies.

Hey!!! I've given them a reprieve for the time being. Once the new year starts, they will have a new vehicle to take them to Mun. It has twice the safety rating of the space shuttle. =D

Also, does anyone know if it's possible to set up a local server and let two family members play if you only have one Minecraft account? I'd like to play co-op work my 7-year-old son, but can't log in from more than one computer at once.

I'm not real sure on that. Possibly by setting the only allow authenticated user to off it would work. Might not like the player name being the same though.
Okay, take 3 of the Iron (prison) Farm is almost complete. The doors are aligned and timer is set to keep the chunks continually loaded. I still need to clear out the center doors, build the second spawn platform and move the villagers to their final chambers, but anyways >
If anyone happens to log on before 3pm eastern time could you please stop by the spawn portal and pick up the stuff there, and please put into the chest right above the iron farm portal. It's the way I'm keeping it alive without having to do it again, and it would be very,very much appreciative. I'll give anyone that does that enough emeralds, gold, or diamond blocks (164) to make their own full size beacon if they want.

If anyone wants to get to the islands to the west, there are two different ways to get there.
1) There is a path in the nether next to the strong hold portal.
2) There is a minecart track from the mine under my place to a mine under the portal there. It is 2.1Km long so it takes about 8min, but you get an Achievment for travelling that far in a minecart.

I'm tempted to travel back to the jungle to see if I can find a pet cat. But I have so many other games to play! And so many other things to do...

Happy Dance!!! (snoopy dance) The iron farm is operational at last! Currently there is some 12K iron bars in the dispenser/storage system. The only problem that I have run into currently is getting the droppers from shooting out the bars for a fast crafting station to work. I think that I have to move a few things around again, but if anyone who would like to look at it, please do so.

Ending up figuring out how to do the fast crafting dispensing system. I was using a repeater vice a comparator and had to loop it back into itself. Such a goof. Also added some more storage for the iron blocks to the side and there is about 3/4 full sized chest filled currently.
Vote for the next project - Guardian Farm or Witch farm, with either xp or just plain drop to death farm. Your choice.

What drops come from each?
The Guardians drop fish, prismarine shards, and prismarine crystals. The Witch farm drops redstone, glowstone, gunpowder, sticks, spider eyes, sugar and empty bottles. There is way to get them to drop their potions, but it takes an active player to do so to get them to drop their potions.
