[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

Yeah, the new season should be starting up later this year. That's how they do it: special in fall/winter, season starts in spring/summer.

The best moment is Killinger shutting the Monarch down.

"Not you."

Man, do I not envy the president for following that!

So many good things, the president Harrison jokes, Ben's stint into notary limbo, and seeing Leslie and Ron be friends again. Really I just wanted to hug Ron when I learned about why he quit. [/spoilers]

Steven Universe

Oh geez... this was like a kid who overhears their parent crying at night and basically sucks it up to make their lives just a little bit easier. At least we finally have the Gems plainly saying they have NO IDEA what they are doing.

Also, confirmation on Garnet having two different gems. She lit up TWO sections when she made her room. This means she is almost certainly a fusion.

Damn straight, Steven is a good kid. Also, didn't she do that in a previous ep? Together Breakfast I think.

Adventure Time
GLOB IS DEAD! Oh and hi Marten what are yo-OH MY SHRAH!

Watching lots of Dual Survival. Learning some new things yelling at the TV sometimes.
I liked the original cast. I hear the new serious bushcraft guy is talented and patient. I can't stand the gung ho ex-military guy.

Discovery keeps pushing them to do Bear Gryls type of stunts. So I stopped watching when the bush-hippie quit.

Well it's likely that shit is going to stop soon... the new head of the channel has made it clear he wants to go back to the roots of the network.

Adventure Time

Finn's dad is going to cause the destruction of Ooo?! And poor Glob.

Slightly off-topic: I know they're slowly aging Finn, but you can really see his growth spurt in this latest episode.

Agreed, love the gradual change in this show.

Glob's death was symbolic on a damn myriad of levels, right when Finn might've gotten a good answer BAM the main deity of OOO dies. ALSO I feel Finn's astral journey was a good call back to "The Tower" , also if Finn is ever able to master his psychic powers that would be awesome.

I wouldn't be surprised if those powers come into play to stop the "comet".

Parks and Rec latest eps:

Real talk, someone needs to make a game called
"Ron Swanson: DRONE HUNTER!" Also I love how Gryzzl found a way to make giving the perfect gift super creepy, that is some high level evil. And finally Jonathan Karate is my hero.

But in the meantime, they're airing a bullshit series called Big Giant Swords. Now, I've seen the guy's work on YouTube - he's the guy who made the "real Buster Sword" and "real Berserk Sword", neither of which could cut dirt.

Why do I call it bullshit? Because he isn't forging swords. Most of the time, he's taking a piece of mild steel sheet stock, drawing a template on it, using a torch to cut out the outline, and then grinding it to shape. I get they're not supposed to be functional or practical, but it basically doesn't strike me as all that impressive. It doesn't represent bladesmithing.

Adventure Time:

ALL HAIL THE ONE TRUE KING OF OOO, and his lawyer Toronto.

Steven Universe:

Pretty sweet, not much happened but nice little character development.

Regular Show:

...wait, ant-farms AREN'T a sound investment?

The guy that does (or did, I don't know if it's still running) man at arms was way better. It was basically the same thing, making fantasy swords and weapons in reality, but he used real sword-forging techniques. Yes, they were still mainly for decoration, but were at least real smithed swords.

Though, he didn't look like a tolkien dwarf either, so... there's that.

They recently made the scissor blade from Kill La Kill out of actual scissors.

Ryuko Matoi's Scissor Blade (Kill la Kill)

Oh and made Tessaiga using Japanese sword technique.

Inuyasha's Tessaiga (InuYasha) - MAN AT ARMS: REF…:

From what I understand, so long as the steel you're using is good, doing it that way will get you a knife/sword just as good if not better than forging it from scratch, unless you're a dumbass and fuck up the temper.

Funny you mention that, since on Man-at-Arms he usually wouldn't do traditional bladesmithing and would do the cut and grind thing. He actually got a lot of flak about it, and got so fed up with it he started doing more forging to shut up the haters.

The main problem with stock removal blades is that they tend to be brittle and stiff by comparison, since sheet stock isn't necessarily designed to be flexible. Yes, forgewelding steel - that is, the folding process, as well as blending materials into bar stock - is mostly to get the carbon right when using impure materials and isn't important when using quality steel to start. However, the process of heating, shaping, annealing, and differential tempering steel generally gives you a more resilient and lighter blade. Differential tempering is a mostly European technique (as opposed to the differential hardening techniques used in Japanese swordsmithing) to produce a very hard edge while retaining a softer, more flexible core, while a stock removal blade will have almost uniform hardness and flexibility. In a knife, especially a kitchen knife, that isn't a bad thing, but it is undesirable in a large blade that will be subject to different kinds of forces.

Which makes most anime funny, because they tend to use more western style parries in anime because it looks cooler. But that would be a pretty dumb idea with the swords they're using. Of course, I suppose it's subverted when it's the Super Magical Happy Monkey Sword Which Can Cut Through Ghosts.
