[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

Steven Universe

Holy shit... it looks like the Crystal Gems committed a genocide on Earth. And those giant virus machines... I never expected this scale.

Adventure Time

Not a punch to the face, but its something!

Regular Show

DAMN turtles, I think they made the biggest death count in this series
. Also- YAY insane awkwardness!

Adventure Time - Every time Martin shows up, I just want to punch him in the face for Finn. Meanwhile, the villagers are adorable and I'd do the same thing as Finn.

Saw this on a Steven Universe wiki- RONALDO WAS RIGHT!

Seriously people are posting "Ronaldo was right" so many times they might as well put it on a t-shirt. I'd buy one, don't know about y'all.

So I just watched an episode of The Outer Limits from the 60s called The Architects of Fear. The plot is interesting: the nuclear defense council decides the best way to prevent global nuclear war is to ... manufacture an enemy alien in order to ally everyone against a common enemy. Boy, that sounds familiar.

Don't you dare insinuate that Alan Moore has EVER cribbed from elsewhere before!

DON'T DO IT.

His beard. It will consume us all.

I remember they mentioned that in the movie, too. One of the characters is watching it on TV.

Moore has openly admitted that he was inspired by this episode.

I never saw the episode before, and never read Moore's thoughts on the matter. Inspiration seems like a generous word. They even have a team of scientists, doctors, and engineers working to ensure that the alien will withstand the scrutiny of other scientists.

Comments by editor Len Wein on the issue
Wein admitted to being unhappy with the ending of “Watchmen,” which depicts the creation of a phony alien menace to unify the Earth. To Wein, the ending was reminiscent of an “Outer Limits” episode. “It’s been done before,” he told Moore. Moore responded, “But I haven’t done it.” They argued, and Moore ultimately won, but acknowledged the episode by having Sally Jupiter watch it in a scene in the final chapter.

Honestly, this has nothing to do with the issues of originality in Alan Moore's work. This is just a funny story from Neil Gaiman about an encounter he had with Alan Moore, and this just seemed like an appropriate spot to post.

Sweet, I'm totally going to add a B plot to my next story about some short dudes tossing a ring into a volcano, because _I_ haven't done it before. Bow before me.

Of course that's without counting that all of The Watchmen were originally supposed to be adaptations of the Charlton comics characters - The Question, Mr A, Captain Atom, etc - but DC forbid it because it wanted to be able to use them again without countermanding the events of Watchmen.

I think Len Wein mentions that in the article Covar linked. To the effect of, "We don't want you killing these characters we just paid for, so could you make some new ones just like them instead?"

I am now 99 percent caught up with Brooklyn 99, damn DVR cut off the end of some episodes, and I forget which so I'm re-watching all of season two which is still good so whatevs. My only criticism is that I feel the romantic sub-plots are the weakest parts of the show, if Rosa breaks up with Nick Cannon I will have LAX a reaction probably.

Parks and Rec- heh, I needed that laugh. It was like watching Internet comments come to life.
The IOW is a bunch of sexist jerks and they should go back into the kitchen and leave the real work to feminists like Ben Wyatt- OOOOOOOOOOOH my god what has happened?!

Seriously though, that bit about Men's rights was SO great.

That guy knows Colbert is already about to take over another show, yeah?

Also they're comedians, not politicians. I'd rather they keep doing things that are hilarious, as opposed to sad.

I watched How Its Made and learned that bowling balls are intentionally unbalanced!
I like some of the stuff they show, and wish they would go into more detail on lots of things, but that show is my personal cure for insomnia. I can turn it on and before the first segment is done I'm starting to nod off.
