[TV] The What Anime Are You Watching Thread!

After the demon world tournament they had adventures, and then another tournament >_>
If we can pinpoint where the stupid tournament fighting ends and the adventure part begin, I'd be willing to watch those segments. I would rather get a tooth drilled than sit through more training/fighting crap.

The more I watch Hunter x Hunter the more I realize that there are other characters that seem to be heavily inspired by American comic book characters. They seem to have names that rhyme with their American counterparts. Hisoka = Joker, Uvogin = Wolverine. I'm on the lookout for more parallels.

Started watching Haruhi Suzumiya for the first time and I hear there are 8 episodes in a row that are pretty much identical. What should I do when I get to that point - watch all 8, just watch 1, watch the first and last, or just skip these episodes entirely. Advise me Halforums!

They're not in the first season, though chronologically they take place in the middle of the series. They were irritating as all hell. I'd say watch the first, the last 5 minutes of a couple in the middle, then watch the entire last.

Also, I suggest watching S1 twice. It's confusing because the show's broadcast order and chronological order is different (on purpose). The second season, like Gas said, contains the infamous Endless Eight, and his suggestion is likely the best way to handle it.

Oh yeah, definitely watch season 1 in chronological order, not broadcast order.

That order is:
"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part One"
"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Two"
"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Three"
"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Four"
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Five"
"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Six"
"The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya"
"Mystérique Sign"
"Remote Island Syndrome (Part One)"
"Remote Island Syndrome (Part Two)"
"The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00" (optional in my opinion)
"Live Alive"
"The Day of Sagittarius"
"Someday in the Rain"[DOUBLEPOST=1424727163,1424727014][/DOUBLEPOST]I'd also amend my direction to watch the first AND second "Endless eight" episodes, then the last. It's only on the second episode that Kyon realizes they're stuck in a time loop.

Another Hunter x Hunter post (hey, it's a long series): the show is fairly self-aware. For example, I noticed that the protagonist, Gon, is not really a "good guy" like the protagonists of a lot of shonen. Sure enough, in the very next episode, they discuss this in-show (as a thought Killua has). I've noticed things that seem like plot holes which usually get addressed on-screen shortly thereafter. I also like how the author gives sympathetic qualities to a lot of the villains. Not all, but he definitely seems to have sociopaths, and villains with a motivation.

Man, so continuing to drip feed Parasyte the Maxim, I can't get over how much the show straight rips off Vangelis' Bladerunner End Credits theme. Like, nearly every episode.

Huh. I never noticed. Then again, I don't think I've ever watched the credits.

It's not in the end credits, they use a carbon copy of the tune in a lot of episodes.

Check 13 minutes into the second episode. The music producer was a little more than inspired by the piece.

For some reason the last couple One Piece chapters said stuff like "What is the secret of Law's past?!" It...it was revealed chapters ago! You don't need to keep using that as a tag-line Shueisha.

Also I am glad I stopped feeling guilty about reading the scans years ago, as the breaks between the release of the translated Tankobon is FUCKING RIDICULOUS! ITS ALL READY TRANSLATED YOU FOOLS! Don't act like the speed up schedule wasn't a thing, BECAUSE IT WAS!

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone could offer me some recommendations for shows to watch on Hulu. If it helps you figure out what to suggest, here are some of the shows I've been watching:

Gurren Lagann
Sailor Moon Crystal
Patlabor
Slayers
Dragon Ball Z Kai

I don't know if it's on hulu, but if you liked Gurren Lagann's over-the-top wtf'ery, you could try Kill la Kill.
I dunno what else you've seen.
My own must-see anime list includes:
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Code Geass
Death Note (but only the first season)
S-Cry-Ed
The Big O
Black Lagoon
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo
Trigun

If you've seen all of that, you're ready for whatever the hell Bones is gonna tell you to watch.

I suggest checking out Myanimelist. Plug in the name of shows you've seen and on said show's page, there'll be a list of user-suggested similar shows.

Personally I don't know what's on Hulu at the moment, so I can't say what to watch.

I had to google what that was, and thanks to urban dictionary, I now know there is a japanese term that succinctly defines my little brother's entire personality.

Reading a neat little manga called "Dimension W", a crime series based in a world where Tesla's world system was perfected to the point where tesla coils are the size of screws. However, there are illegal coils on the market that can overpower machinery to disastrous results, so its up the Recovery crew( A nostalgia obsessed loner, and a robot with a SECRET PAST ) who hunt them down. Dialogue could have some more character, but the story is solid and the art is top-notch.

Okay one more Hunter x Hunter post. If you watch this show, stick with it through the Chimera ant arc. It's worth it. I mean it's a poorly veiled allegory for WWII, but it has one of the best discussions of good and evil I've seen on film. There's no clear good guy or bad guy. Well, there is at first, after the attack on Pearl Harbor I mean the initial ant attack, but then they mess with you big time. The arc finale---geez---that left me in tears, I must admit.
