Minor victory thread

Fallout 4 announcement coming.
Steam implements refunds.
Sepp Blatter resigned.

Today was a good day.

-It's actually going to be a re-release of Fallout Tactics

-There was a typo, refunds are on paid mods only, which are being reimplemented, starting with Fallout Tactics

-The new head of FIFA will turn out to be Sepp Blatter in a false mustache, except this time he's even more corrupt.

Poe - Day ruiner.

That married friend of mine decided to visit today.

She wasn't wearing panties beneath those yoga pants.

It was a very good day.

I don't wear workout clothes unless I'm working out--not out of shame or anything but because I think regular clothes just look nicer. Now I have a second reason.

I was going to whine about having issues with my new glucose meter, but then I read what happened with OC's co-worker.

Puts things into perspective.

(But really - I went through eight test strips and still couldn't get a reading...)

I may or may not have talked about this before (well, I know I've ranted about it, but I doubt you'd remember), but at my place of work, we mostly all work together on one site, for multiple clients and out own company. There is, however, a small group that goes to work at one specific client to do work in house. I used to be a part of that group, against my own will - I was "volunteered" for 3 to 6 months while they looked for a replacement on the permanent team. 6 years later, I finally managed to get out by pretty much threatening to quit if the next guy hired into the group didn't replace me there. Phew. that was January. Now, as of June 1st, they've decided that the team can't keep up with the amount of work anymore, and the client has decided to have one extra shift every week, have one of the team come in extra one day a week, just to catch up on administration and back office work, since it's been piling up since January and the team simply can't get it all done anymore. Both the client and my manager have straight out said that it's because I stopped work there and I bailed them out by doing more work than any of the others. I have no desire whatsoever to go back there, and my manager doesn't want to send me back (obviously! The more hours the client pays the better), but I still feel slightly vindicated in the whole "I'm a hard worker and this place would fall apart without me" feeling I sometimes had. Dammit. May or may not be a minor win, I dunno, but it feels like a bit of vindication for my "I put in a lot of hard work for no thanks" feeling, anyway, and I'll take it.

For my birthday today, Mr. Z and Li'l Z gave me a great day. Mr. Z brought home breakfast from my favorite place, then we went down to the beach and the boardwalk. I got to teach Li'l Z how to play skeeball, which is a Jersey Shore rite of passage and dinner was amazing sushi followed by ice cream. I could not be happier.

Oh, and Saturday, we're having a "birthday party". Since Jurassic World is being released on the same date (supposedly) as Jurassic Park was 22 years earlier, we're re-creating my 13th birthday party, which means pizza and a bunch of us go to see the movie. I have a life-long obsession with dinosaurs, so Mr. Z is delighting in making this a very dino-themed party.I think he's just trying to call me old. I'll try to post some pictures.

Ooooh, did he give you a beautiful set of amber jewelry?

I bet he'll spare no expense.

Jurassic Park's US release was June 11, 1993.

June birthdays are the best, so good job.

Also dinosaurs are amazing, and I am glad to hear that the Jersey Shore rite of passage isn't spray tans.

I know. I'm quoting Chris Pratt's interview (which I can't find right now because EW changed their f***ing format), but the gist being if you catch a midnight screening, it's about the same. It was as close as they could get, but the release date was picked for a reason. And in both cases, we come out right around my birthday, so party time. :D

Yesterday, I learned several things: 1) what "swaging" is 2) how to do it 3) and you can negotiate with Home Depot.

I needed a new jib forestay for my boat, and they're made from wire rope/cable. A new one, from the few places that sell it, goes from $80 on up. Home Depot had the rope itself for $0.30/foot, and it's about 14 feet long. You also need a swaging tool, which looks like a bolt cutter, but with holes in the jaw. And swages, which are little metal clamps. The tool was $20, but the only one Home Depot had looked like it had been through a war. So I went to the manager, and he gave it to me for half off. My original plan was to buy it and return it (yeah yeah, save your judgement) but I'll keep it now. The swages were about $0.90. So I made the forestay myself for about $15, $10 of which was for a reusable tool. Win!

Here's the forestay I made:

I only really used the term when referring to ammunition.
But good on you to DIY where possible. It's a satisfying way to save money. :)

Man I DIY everything. The only thing I don't fix myself is AC, and that's mostly because of the required specialized tools.

The only real problem with doing this is that somehow your neighbors find out you know how to do these things. And then they want you to do them for them, too.
