Shot of Matt Damon in The Martian. Hopefully Ridley Scott keeps the humourous tone of the book without injecting his terrible old man bullshit into, I'm honestly sick of him churning out fucking bullshit. It was a bloody treat to read.

It also mentions that it "began Moore's dislike of hollywood adaptations of his work"... despite it already existing prior to From Hell in 2001. Not exactly a great article.

I wouldn't mind them giving League of Extraordinary Gentlemen another go; I think in the right hands it could be a great Victorian action flick. But it sounds like they're going for "Victorian Steampunk Avengers", and I don't quite think the potential's there.

I think the better question is "Why?" The comic had a modest following, and the movie didn't make any waves. Aside from not wanting to lose the film rights, there's no need to make another LXG movie.

I guess it's cheaper than acquiring the rights to a new comic/franchise, but I'd rather see something else get the movie treatment.

I think it's more they are desperately searching for their own property to turn into a franchise like the Avengers. Do LXG and have a few stand-outs with the fans? Turn those into solo movies. Want more characters to do movies of? Look for things you can license to throw into the pot or mine the public domain for more... it's all the appeal of the Avengers, but with better known characters.

Of course, they'll just fuck it up anyway. This is FOX, after all.

Since when is there going to be an Independence Day 2? I did not hear of this. I mean, I heard of it, back when the original came out, but then nothing until today. And it's not like it just got greenlit or something; they're on set, in the production phase. What the hell?

I'm starting to wonder if Larry Wilmore was offered the Daily Show, said no, and they gave him the Nightly Show so he could focus on doing what he wanted instead of upholding a legacy. Nothing wrong with that, but if this new guy can't show that he's just as passionate and dedicated as John is, the Daily Show really should just fade away.

Yeah I mean this new guy seems pretty funny, but this show was basically Jon's life for the whole run he was on it. They're some big shoes to fill.

Larry Wilmore sucks, and I'm glad he's not taking over.

I am almost certain that the format and rather relaxed delivery of the Nightly Show is directly inspired by the kind of minority focused programming you used to see get play on the big networks in the early AM during the 80's and 90's... which makes his show a stealth pun about the quality of such of focused programming on television today. That's Colbert-level writing and dedication, even if he's not playing a caricature like Steven Colbert was.

As for the show itself... I actually dig it. It feels much less rigid than the Daily Show, which is actually a strength for the program because it lets it focus on older news if nothing major is happening right now (a problem the Daily Show has) and to spend as much time talking about it as the people on the show WANT (which is an issue with the Daily Show where every god damn interview gets tossed on the website for length). I'm still waiting for Larry to cement his credibility with some big interview or something but otherwise I'm fine with the show as it is... and really, who the fuck else were they going to give a show to?

My issue with Wilmore is that he's not funny. He's just not funny at all, in my opinion. So the format, the interviewees, the possible stealth-pun... is wasted on me, since I don't find any of his show funny.

Tracy Morgan has his first interview on Today since his accident.

Had to turn it off after a couple minutes. Dude is obviously upset thinking about his friend dying in the pileup, and Lauer immediately starts prodding about the day of the accident. Morgan is fucking crying over being lucky enough to survive while a close friend died, and Lauer's pushing to get info about this crash. Just comes off as pretty heartless to me.
