TIL: The ignition point of cardboard is 427 degrees C (800 Fahrenheit). So, all those pictures of computers built in cardboard boxes weren't quite the fire hazard I took them for, as a computer would lock up and cease functioning long before the cardboard ignited.

Grounding would still be an issue though.

I know that the remotes we give to our customers at work have a little weight in the middle. In a meeting about it they explicitly stated it was to make it seem higher quality.

In my new position at work, I tear down lots of electronics, and I can see which companies actually care about quality, and which ones only care about the appearance of quality.

Yes, I signed an NDA, so no I can't tell you. I know what brands I'll be avoiding in the future though.

My grandmother was good friends with a woman who did qualitative testing for petroleum companies.
That means this woman was in a position to know who had the "healthiest" gasoline. In fact, that was her specialization.
She was of course forbidden to tell under pain of dire circumstances.
Strangely enough, whenever they were planning to go somewhere together, my grandfather would almost always have the car for some silly man-related task.
This means the other woman would almost always end up doing the driving, but it was all good, since grandma would always chip in her half whenever they had to stop for gas.
My grandmother was a clever woman.

I've seen the video. It's a destructive system (like airbags) that requires replacement whenever it fires, but I'm sure it beats the alternative.
Also it's electronic, so if you interrupt the current, you also interrupt its ability to sense your finger(s).

As I understood the mechanism, if you interrupt the current, the thing would probably trigger.

Today I learned that, had he not died, Chris Farley would have been the voice of Shrek. He had recorded nearly all the lines but died before finishing the work.

I did hear something about that, but apparently test audiences didn't like it, so they re-did it all with Myers rather than use what they had.

Actually I want to build an electric guitar out of lead crystal.

An electric guitar's ability to sustain is based on the density of the material used to build the body, but you can't use metallic materials because it will interfere with the electromagnetism that makes the guitar work. Originally I wanted to use hematite, but no matter how cool that would look, hematite is iron-based, so I had to search for the densest stuff that wouldn't conduct electricity, and lead crystal appears to be what I want.

Then there are the challenges about weight and making it vibration-resistant, etc. It's still a dream, though.

I would like to build acoustic guitars, but I think I would start with an electric for simplicities sake. I do have ideas about wood choices for both, but I haven't considered inorganic choices. I'll have to think about some of the options out there. I am sure there's a 3D printer design for a guitar. All of my big woodworking projects will have to wait until I have a space for all that fun.

TIL that Lunchables Breakfast exists. I thought that cold hotdogs on stale buns were as bad as Lunchables were going to get. NOPE! Hey kids, why have cereal when you could have cold, stale, crumbly pancakes? Don't worry, they've included enough maple flavored corn syrup to drown your sorrows in. And there are crumbles of cold, cheap bacon bits, too!

This product exists. There are people who feed this to their children. I has a sad.
