Video Game News and Miscellany

Colonial Marines was hammered, but not unfairly. There were a lot of flaws both conceptually and in execution. It was repetitive, with incredibly shitty AI, and instead of offering a fantastic game of lethal hide-and-seek, with well trained, well equipped soldiers against the ultimate biomechanical weapon, you wound up with a mediocre shooter that felt dated.

There are cases where radical idiots overreact. No matter how bad a game, you shouldn't go around threatening to kill the makers or their cat, and that sort of things. However, if you make a crappy crappy game, you can expect a lot of people to crap on it.
Oh sure, don't get me wrong. There's always that super-vocal minority that takes it way too far. Outside of that, though, if you release a completely shitty game that delivers on absolutely nothing you're going to get called out for it, and his staunch refusal to just admit A:CM was a shitshow while he puts his fingers in his ears is hilarious and sad.

And that's all on top of the fact that they straight out lied to people about what the game was going to look like and how it was going to play when they showed off demos in the years leading up to its launch.

So, on Arkham Knight. PC users, it won't be back on sale until likely the fall. That's fine and dandy if they fix it properly. Now, for the fucking asshole move by Warner Brothers, the DLC coming out for consoles in the next little while will NOT be available on PC until after it's back on PC. They waited until people went beyond the refund grace period to mention this. Basically, they're just now saying fuck you to the PC people who didn't get refunds. I imagine anyone who bought the season pass on PC must be furious.

I'm really not sure what they were supposed to do. They could get the DLC out on PC instead of squashing bugs, but when they did that for Arkham Origins, they got roasted on all the news sites as looking for money instead of fixing their product. On the other hand, not putting out the DLC for PC because they need a stable release first is getting them shit on as "abandoning" the PC version... mostly because we don't know for sure if they ARE fixing the PC version. On the OTHER other hand, if they had delayed release to get a stable release to begin with, they'd have been shit on for making PC gamers wait for the game, like Rockstar always does.

I'm not saying WB aren't being fucking awful (they are and should be ashamed of themselves) but it's not like they had a chance to begin with. Short of making the PC version the "source" version to be ported, they weren't going to win and they make far too much money on the consoles to justify that.

They could offer something to the PC people that stuck with them other than a go fuck yourselves, wait.

That's a fair idea. Maybe they should offer a free DLC package to the people who've been holding out when they put the DLC in? That would at least be something.

It's important to note that, while they did halt sale of the base game on Steam, they DID NOT halt the sale of the season pass. So anyone who bought that is now having to wait far longer than originally communicated.

That's true and COMPLETE bullshit, especially if they don't deliver the DLC... but then Valve might force a refund on them if that happens.

I went the extra mile and bought the season pass, largely because it was so cheap through GoG.

Regretting it AND my purchase of the game as a whole. Even not including all the bullshit problems with it, the game itself wasn't worth the full price.

I think you mean GMG. Though, iirc, the premium edition that included the season was still $20 more than the base edition even after the hefty discount, so you still ended up paying full price for the season pass.

I'll mention again, unless it's during a sale with a massive discount, there is -no- reason to buy a season pass before any of the dlc is out. Season passes never stop being sold, so you can wait for the DLC, see if you want it, and then decide whether to buy individually or get the pass for all together. The only exception for this is during steam sales, when the season pass is often discounted at 50% or greater. At that point, it's up to you if you want the risk.

Ten Years Later, Star Wars KOTOR II Gets An Official Update

The update just dropped on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux. It’s a doozy—at least, for a game that’s more than ten years old.
New features include:
  • 37 achievements to be earned through gameplay
  • Steam Cloud saves
  • Native widescreen resolution support
  • Resolution support up to 4K and 5K
  • Support for controllers, including Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4, along with several others (check the system requirements for details)
  • Steam Workshop support! We proudly worked with the Restored Content Mod Team to have their famous TSLRCM up on launch day
  • Oh... and we added a “Force Speed Effects” option in the menu ;)

Maybe it's had pretty great sales over the last year or so and folks started asking for some better modern PC integration. It's nice to see it happen, though, because as much as I love both games they're tough to play on a newer system due to weird control and resolution issues.

I assume the TSLRCM was so successful and got so many requests to make (semi-)official, and lots of requests for more modern pc support, they felt this would be a good good will gesture?
I'm a bit surprised, too, mind. But I'm also happy.

Whoever the hell Aspyr is, they seem to be really passionate. It's cool of Disney and Lucasarts to allow this.

PC controller support has me wanting to play it again.

Man, I remember none of this game. I remember binge playing it to the end when it came out, but I never played it with the mod. So it's been 10 years since I last played it. (I'm actually happy I remember none of it, because it's like a fresh game now yay)
