Video Game News and Miscellany

I'm sure no one is surprised, but Yahtzee really hated Godzilla.

Definitely the best negative review of it. I give him points for:

- Identifying the way the game is (looks and feels like a Toho movie) and expressing dislike for it, none of this "hey, I'm a Godzilla fan and even I don't like this game" the way some reviewers are bullshitting.
- Not bringing up the price as an issue, though that might come with being in Australia
- Being funny
- Didn't say Godzilla should be lighter, faster, sprinting like he's in the Olympics

Definitely a rent-first game, to see if they're in the tiny group for whom this is the Godzilla game they've been wanting. And anyone like me who does love it needs to make it last, because after these reviews, unless it sold well, it'll be the last Godzilla game like that. I expect the next one will have the kaiju moving like they're in FFVII: Advent Children and having combo sequences like Street Fighter, with fatalies-for-sale like in Mortal Kombat.

Yes, that IS an advertisement for a Silent Hill pachinko machine.

I'm literally hoping someone starts burning down pachinko parlors at this point. It's basically the only way we're getting a new Silent Hill game.

Well, there it is, Mighty Number 9 is not coming out until Q1 2016.

The project continues to be unimpressive. Hopefully the extra time hammers out a good game.

They're not rebuilding anything we've seen; the reason given for the delay is due to bugs related to online features. For what to me should mostly be a single player platforming experience, but maybe they bit off more than they can chew.

Can't wait for the Mega Man Legacy Collection.

The co-op mode looks fun at least... and I can't blame Inafune for wanting to expand his ideas a bit. This is something outside his comfort zone (Blue Castle did the multi in Dead Rising 2, not Capcom) and I applaud him for trying to give players something new to chew... lord knows I always wanted to team up with a friend in Mega Man X.

AFAIK there's no really active Android gaming thread so I'll ask here....
1) Are any of the Warhammer games worth it? (see: Mobile Humble Bundle)? Some are freemium/P2W games so I won't play them, others seem better but given there's quite a few WH fans here I'd hope to get sme more insight :)
2) Any other Android games to suggest? No multiplayer, preferably no constant on line restriction, no (necessary) IAP? :)

Nintendo rep talks localization and why some things just don't leave Japan.

I get where he's coming from but at the same time, it feels like they just don't want to bother with something that can't sell off a name alone.
And the answer is usually the same: keep the Japanese voice-overs, do an English translation of all the text. Sega keeps dragging it's feet on the Yakuza franchise for the same reason, not understand that the people actually buying Yakuza WANT the Japanese voice acting. The entire point is that it's SO VERY Japanese. But they aren't going to make any sales if they don't put it out and god knows we've had exactly two good Sonic games in 10+ years, so why not just stop putting THAT shit out instead?

It genuinely feels like marketing needs to just... go away when it comes to games. It's very clear that all the data in the world is completely unable to pick which games will succeed.

I thought Nintendo was supposed to go region-free sometime in the near future.
Their board is still extremely gun shy after the whole R4 thing on the DS. It's really what made them push forward with the 3DS and Wii/WiiU Marketplaces... unfortunately, they are still trying to sell classic Nintendo stuff as a premium product and it's really hampering their ability to make money.

So apparently the devs of SC2 have hinted that a new Warcraft RTS is not out of the question after SC2 wraps up.

FUCKING DO EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

Are they actually going to release the whole game at once for it, though, or are we going to have to buy it 3 times again?

Well, I didn't play the subsequent two, but the first SC2 release sure as hell didn't.
Both in number of missions and hours of single player playtime required to beat the campaign, it did. People misremember and like to include Brood Wars in their recollection. *shrug*

Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty had 29 possible missions. Starcraft 1 had 30.

So I was slightly off. It had one mission less.

A lot of people assume that "Expansion pack" is just marketing-speak for "really big patch."
...which is an easy thing to do when many companies actually do treat it that way.
