Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

I feel like I was scammed by At&t for the last 5 years.
I get home Internet from AT&T via DSL. It's supposed to be 8192/768 () but the test I just ran shows 6160/680 (23).
Then I tried LTE and got 18320/4070 (9).
But they say we can't get faster wired Internet here because "...the area is not wired for faster Internet."

My phone seems to think otherwise, you money-grubbing laggards.

We have fiber optics in our neighborhood...right up to our particular condominium's subdivision. It's like a fire hydrant being siphoned through a silly straw. AT&T's customer service reps are some of the most inept in the business. I'm too lazy to change service. I think the other options are Time-Warner or Comcast anyway. :Leyla:

That's the story pretty much everywhere.
Where I live, my only other choice is Charter. I've already looked into it. I can get Internet for $25/mo if I bundle it with phone/TV for a total cost of about $85/mo, or I can get Internet all by itself for $80/mo. That's absolute cracksplatter and it needs to stop.
In fact, I'm going to repost this just because I'm feeling so "Really? REALLY?" right now.

I'm on AT&T's Uverse (VDSL), which, despite my complaints about their cell service, is pretty nice for me. I get what I pay for, and it's about half the price of Comcast. I get that I'm fortunate that my DSL speeds are optimal, though. Also, upload on DSL still sucks.

Sometimes a quick vacation gives you the little bit of a recharge you need to get back to work feeling refreshed and ready to tackle everything that comes your way; and sometimes it allows you to see how truly fucked up your work situation is. Sadly, my Labor Day Weekend was the latter. I think I'll go play in traffic - on the base runways across the street. (No, not seriously).

I did not die of boredom during our call!

I would like to thank our translator for that because as his translations got worse and worse over the course of the meeting, we got more and more entertained.

Oh god, a random person I don't know tried to make small talk with me while I was sitting on the other side of the school entryway, clearly fiddling with my phone and trying to avoid socializing. THE HORROR.

I don't feel so good today.

Firstly, I have a cold. Sore throat, general wooziness, sinuses filled with unspeakable substances, et cetera. Also, it doesn't help that I have an ulcer near the back of my mouth, which blends nicely with the pain from my throat.

Secondly, I'm suffering from caffeine withdrawal. Big cases last week, which led to drinking a lot of coffee. Now I've built up a mild addiction, which I'm trying to shake, which means I'm not feeling very good.

Thirdly, and this is the big one, I'm feeling really unmotivated at work. I transferred back to my old department at the beginning of August, and I'm having trouble getting into my job. This has led to a marked decrease in work quality, leading to at least one big spat with a client already. This is bad, because I've got another big and important case to do today, and all I can do is stare at it and think about how much I don't want to do it.

This sucks.

I am so glad you two enjoy the Body book I got over the summer. However, you are 6 and 10. You do not need to know what Wernicke's area does, what the peritoneum is, or how the bones in the ear work on this very evening. I have homework to do and it does not involve being an anatomy professor.

I'll help.

Wernicke's area is the spot where that wolf bit Nick.

Peritoneum - that's a tricky one. Periscope is a scope that looks above you, so peritoneum is the area above toe but below the knee.

The bones in the ear don't "work". They are lazy bones.

My husband stopped at the Comcast office this morning to upgrade our cable package and then took the new modem to work with him. I think I'm getting the shakes. At least I have a cell phone.

One big advantage to Android was a rooted phone could tether without having to add it to your data plan. More than once I had to use my Evo to run the hotel property management software when the main DSL crapped out.

I love that one. I also love that 'fortune' still comes preinstalled on most *nix and BSD boxes. Not to mention the most useful collection of cli programs ever. Like 'cal'. How come every OS doesn't have something neat like cal? or 'bc'?

Fortune + the "phosphor" module of xscreensaver makes for a glorious time waster. :)

Phosphor is allegedly a VT emulator is run with certain commands. I've never gotten that to work on Gentoo, Arch, or Xubuntu.
