I'm not convinced even Skull Island is going to get made, let alone a new King Kong vs Godzilla, so I'm not getting excited for anything yet :p. As it is, with this rumor plus the rumor of Mothra appearing in Godzilla 2, and the chance of a Pacific Rim crossover, they're setting up too many good guys. Kaiju movies don't really work like The Avengers, and when Godzilla fought Kong and Mothra, he was a bad guy. They need to be figuring out some villains for this whole thing.

Looks like there will be no Pacific Rim 2.

Legendary wanted to produce a sequel to del Toro's Pacific Rim, which was made under the Warners deal and turned into one of those films that grosses a lot ($411 million worldwide) while being so costly that a follow-up isn't a sure thing. Sources say Legendary liked that the original performed exceptionally well in China, where the company is heavily invested, but for now the project — which had been ramping up to make a release date in August 2017 — has been halted indefinitely and will be pushed back (if it gets made at all).

I'm reading this book right now. It'll be interesting how they handle the story considering for the most part it's inner dialogue. Probably pull a Cast Away and just have him think out loud.

I'm saddened by this news, but not disapointed if that makes any sense. Pacific Rim was a good movie with a beginning, middle, and end. If there's never any more it won't feel like we're losing anything.

You can see some of it in the trailer, with him talking to the screen. I'm looking forward to the movie, and think it will work better than the book. First person narrative can be difficult for me to enjoy sometimes, and it was my least favorite thing about the Martian. Came across as more boastful than difficult and suspenseful. I think seeing the problems rather than being told about them will help a lot.

The reader for The Martian audio book is fantastic. I recommend it if you have a hard time trying to read it.

The news is delayed, but considering the stance of that delay, yeah, probably no sequel.

On the upshot, the King Kong vs Godzilla thing is looking less like bullshit and more like Warner Bros is banking on having a giant monster shared universe, running off Godzilla into the new Kong movie, then Godzilla 2, then a mash-up that might see them turn from enemies to allies.

Weird as hell that they can get this right with kaiju (do each monster's origin movie, then the crossover) but not superheroes.

On the bright side, this might free up Del Toro to finally make Hellboy3.

I don't think he's getting a third Hellboy, considering how weird the second one was. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Golden Army but a lot of people were turned off by some of the odder shit for some reason.

Shame, because Ron Perlman sounds psyched about del Toro's idea for it. Basically, Hellboy has to fulfill his duty to bring the Apocalypse, but his two children may affect those plans. One is absolutely stunning in beauty but a cruel soul, while the other looks monstrous yet is a saint.

Much as I love the Hellboy movies, I know they haven't done well in theatres. The first one did well, but not well enough for the company, so they jumped to Universal.

And then the second one got trounced by The Dark Knight.

That was a big summer. Iron Man, Indiana Jones 4, Kung Fu Panda, Dark Knight ... not surprising Hellboy 2 got lost in the shuffle.

On the upside, del Toro says he's not giving up on Pacific Rim 2, and plans on turning in a script and budget request in three weeks. Can't help but love the guy.

Just kind of a random thing, but at my job at the library we occasionally get some movies added to the collection that seem like pure novelty. I'm sure the movies got great acclaim for their gimmick at the time, and maybe even won awards for it, but when you get right down to it, doesn't really make it a particularly good or interesting movie. Boyhood kind of seems like that to me. Yeah, it's an interesting gimmick, to film a real kid intermittently for years, but does that make a better movie than the usual method? However, the most egregious example of this is one we just got in called "Russian Ark", in which a 90+ minute long movie is a SINGLE UNINTERRUPTED TAKE. And it's about time travel - a modern present day Russian and his french guest slip back in time at the Hermitage museum in St Petersburg from the reign of Peter the Great, through various eras, with about 2,000 actors and extras involved.

Nothing actually happens except they see glimpses of Russian history "as it's happening". Sometimes the people can see them or interact with them, sometimes they can't.

WHO THE FUCK WOULD WATCH THIS?

In one scene of the "Tiger and Bunny" show, Tiger gets a demonstration of what his new suit is capable and it looks EERILY similar to the scene in the Incredibles where Edna Mode shows Helen Parr the family suits.
