[TV] The Walking Dead

They wanted to have a big opening, but also not leave a bunch of plot stuff untouched that would've had to happen.

I think it's fine, since both the flashback and present pieces happen in their own order. It's like Memento, except the color parts are in order too.

They actually had to address it on Talking Dead, because of how fucking big a deal this episode is.

They are, of course, right that SOME characters are basically immune to death at this point. Daryl dies and the show flounders... Rick dies and the plot dies with him, which extends to Carl and the baby... Carol dies without it being HUGE and people would feel upset... they just don't have a lot of options at this point.

Also, it was way more meaningful than in the comics at least.

Is Glenn for sure dead though?it looked more like the other guy was on top of him, and they were eating him, not Glenn.

The show runners made a statement for Talking Dead, basically saying that they aren't going to confirm if Glenn is dead or not, but that we will get resolution to that question within a few episodes and that he will appear again soon. Whether that means as a corpse, a walker, alive, or just in a flashback they refuse to say. All we know is that the question isn't going to hanging in the air much longer.

Honestly I did notice some weird things about this in the Talking Dead. Like I don't think Glenn showed up in the "post-mortem montage", or is my mind just blanking on it because I was still in shock. I don't even know.

He didn't show up in that montage explicitly because we don't know 100% for sure if he's dead or not. Instead of his shot, we got "Please don't let it be true" repeated three times on the screen,.

I dunno, it looked pretty definitive to me. You only say it doesn't because you don't want it to be true. ;)

I don't want it to be true either. [emoji24]

Well, I believe someone on Talking Dead made the comment that
He could have rolled under that dumpster.

I think they just put it there to fuck with us.

I think the more likely explanation is...

He's COVERED in gore now. If he plays dead, they might just finish eating the other guy and leave him be. They only ever seem to go for the guts on dead prey, so they might think they already got the good bits and leave... it's not like they are going to move the body to get to the untouched Glenn underneath and it's not like they actually eat stuff like the face or limbs. Bite, sure, but it's not like we see them eating some dude's severed leg or there wouldn't be so many walkers around.

And really, this would be THE thing that breaks Glenn: to actually have someone he tried to save get eaten on top of him.

Fucking Nicholas ...

I have a hard time seeing them just stop eating once they get through Nicholas, and he seemed to be screaming in pain.

He didn't have any blood gushing out of his mouth though, which is likely while going through extreme trauma. The screaming could have just been fear, considering he was basically trapped in hell. Maybe after chewing through Nicholas, enough of the bile and zombie grim gets on him that they forget he is there, since it's long been established they hunt based on smell.

Holding out hope.... hope... hope....

Looked like they were biting into his shoulder.

I'm not saying people who hope he lives are wrong that that's what the show will do, but it'll tale a cheating cop-out to do it. If they'd cut away once Nicholas landed on him, things would be more vague, but they really seem to be biting Glenn, even if the fistfuls of meat hunks were from Nicholas.

It's hard to say because when he first falls, Nick isn't on his chest area but that seems to be where the walkers are pulling out guts but from too high a starting point. this could just be because of practical filming reasons but it could be that the walkers are going through Nick and haven't gotten to Glenn yet. I think regardless he's just fucked. There doesn't seem to be anything that would really get him out of this situation. And that kind of the thing too, is that if for some reason he does get out of this it will kind of feel cheap and that there are just officially safe characters. Don't get me wrong, i'm super bummed out about the prospect of Glenn being dead but I'm not sure if I like the alternative much better.

Zombies don't really eat all the way through though. If they did, you'd have a lot of zombies eaten in half everywhere.
Either way, we'll find out in a few episodes.

I will say this, several other people got killed by packs of walkers this episode and they all screamed and had blood pore out of their mouths. Glenn look pretty low key for compared to others that have suffered the same fate. The show runners have at least setup the possibility of his survival but we will have to wait and see, probably not going to find out in next week's show as it looks like it's Morgan backstory time.

Looking at how the Alexandria community fights, most of them are worse than useless. Zombies sneak up on them in broad daylight. They never stick together and run at the first sign of trouble.

There are a few who are halfway decent in a fight. The ones who go out on recruiting missions (the gay dude) and independent supply runs (Heath) can hold their own. The others are about as effective as the Woodbury townspeople.

That's what the previews make it look like. I think it'll start from "clear" and go until he catches up with them after terminus.

I agree. It would really take the intensity down a notch going forward.

HUGE COMIC BOOK SPOILER

I think Glenn will survive this but die in the mid-season finale. That's when they bump into Negan and he bashes Glenn's head in.

I liked the episode, but damn that killed all the momentum the last episode built.

I really liked the episode too, but it should have come before last week's episode. After last week, and then hearing that this week's would be a 90 minute episode, it wrote a check that this slow, character development episode couldn't cash.
