[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

"The project that will team up Michael Jon Carter & Jamie Reyes."

So no Ted Kord, then. I get that Reyes is the Blue Beetle now and has been for years, but the Booster Gold/Blue Beetle team-up is classically Ted Kord.

So yeah, they went and fucked it up before the movie was even made.

Meh... this is true, but if they can simulate the dynamic correctly, I'm willing to give them a pass on skipping over Ted for Jaime and it's not like Jaime and Booster don't have a working relationship. It'd also be great way to get some fuckin' non-white folks up on the screen as big heroes: Jaime's Mexican-American and everyone else but Cyborg is white, except for some of the villains.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm more concerned with them getting the fun, hilarious vibe that made Blue Beetle/Booster Gold interesting than with them staying 100% true to the comics.

You know what would be just a great script for this movie? Blue Beetle gets kidnapped by a former ally and shot in the head, the Booster tries to bebop around the time stream to save Beetle, only to learn that tampering with the past is wrong, even if his very existence completely changes the past every single day.

:trolol:

Every time I see that posted, it reminds me how horrible Black Canary's costume was back then. DC loved the Olivia Newton John looks.

DC Entertainment said:
DC Entertainment and the family of Bill Finger are pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement that recognizes Mr. Finger’s significant contributions to the Batman family of characters. "Bill Finger was instrumental in developing many of the key creative elements that enrich the Batman universe, and we look forward to building on our acknowledgement of his significant role in DC Comics’ history," stated Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment. "As part of our acknowledgement of those contributions," Nelson continued, "we are pleased to confirm today that Bill Finger will be receiving credit in the Warner Bros. television series Gotham beginning later this season, and in the forthcoming motion picture Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

Eh. It'll probably never be "my" Joker, but than again, neither was Ledger's. It's a different take on the character, at least - better to try something radically else and fail than to try and copy a successful one and fall short.

I'm still trying to figure out why I should give a shit about the Joker when we're talking about a Suicide Squad movie. That right there is a far bigger problem than Jared Leto in a bad halloween costume.

Yeah that's been my biggest problem with Suicide Squad so far - they're treating the squad as co-stars to Jared Leto's Joker.

Here's a fan-made trailer for an Crisis on Infinite Earths movie that looks better than half the stuff from WB lately:

My fears about this being less a Suicide Squad movie and more a Joker movie are becoming more and more well founded with every new piece of news and picture released.

Risky opposing opinion:

I have no interest in Suicide Squad, beyond someday using it as a "I'm home sick and it's on Netflix" type thing. That said, I still have no problem with what they're doing with Joker. They've had two (memorable) versions of the Joker committed to film, and they have to find some way to speak to the character while differentiating this version. Nicholson did great with the dark humor. Ledger did great with the chaotic pathos. I honestly don't think either captured the version I love...the one that seems like a rational person right up until the full breadth of dangerous insanity reveals itself. I think that this is the scariest version of Joker. It's the one I want to watch while wanting to turn away the entire time, like a horror movie icon. If they can get to that, then this could be something good.

tldr: I think it could be interesting. Only the actual performance will tell.

No, they don't. This character shouldn't be in this movie at all. That's the big problem for me. He's being shoe-horned in, and that's why the over-the-top styling is jarring.

If he had been like a quick cameo (and they were going to use the Joker with that actor for a different movie, coming soon) I'd have been okay with it. But yes... he's going to completely overshadow everyone else in the movie.

So we've seen the script then?

My point is that if he's in it for five minutes, then WB is going to advertise the hell out of those five minutes, because he's the only character anyone has heard of outside of Batman fans.

Yeah, but then the issue is why did they make the movie at all if they didn't think it could stand under it's own weight?

I can't say I like the appearance, but I like Leto, and I think he might be closer to my interpretation of the Joker than Ledger. I've made no secret of the fact that I'm the only living nerd who didn't care much for Ledger's dreary off-the-shelf-movie-sociopath interpretation. That said, physical appearance means a lot for a character like this, and this isn't a good one.
