As for veterans and benefits: veterans are entitled to respect. I don't personally feel anyone is obligated to give them free service or discounts....Because the state should provide properly for them. My father spent 30+ years in the army, 20-odd of them abroad....But he retired at 52, and his pension's higher than my and my girlfriend's paychecks combined. He doesn't exactly need a lot of discounts
. It's good to see citizens/companies pick up the slack when government doesn't provide, though.That said, if you have the right to a discount or a freebie, it only makes sense to use it. Back when I was a student, I definitely asked (wherever appropriate) whether or not they had a student's discount. Duh. If they don't offer one, and you insist or demand, though, you can go jump from a high bridge with a just-too-long bungee cord.
@CrimsonSoul: there's a big difference between using an advantage you're entitled to, and abusing a privilege. I don't think anyone begrudges you feeding your children.

I must've looked like hell when I went in to work last night. I certainly felt like it after the night before. The previous desk person called to check up on me a couple hours into my shift. I was a little shocked, and definitely appreciative. I made sure that higher ups knew what she did and that I was surely grateful. 
I got to "lemon infused" and my mouth was watering . . .

Sounds lovely. Finally got into the 50s today, supposed to get into the 40s overnight for the next few days. I'm wearing shorts and everyone else is dressed like we're approaching absolute zero for temps.
