[Webcomic] The Order of the Stick thread

The artist continues to earn yet more of my respect with the depth of his storytelling.
You could say he imbues it with a certain...Richness.

I also fulfilled another promise with today's strip, if a less joyous one. Mark Monack, who went by the screen name "Wrecan," was a pillar of the message board community for many years. He was, among his other roles, the founder of one of the forum's odder traditions: counting the number of strips each character appears in, a project that continues many years after he began it. When he passed in 2013, I asked his wife Jodie if there was anything I could do to help out. She told me he would have loved nothing more than to have a walk-on character named Wrecan in OOTS. Now, there is one.
Wow, even in the title, too. Well done, Rich.

I think what says the most how Rich feels about this, is that unlike guest characters in most webcomics, the artist is actually letting this one live.

I... don't think that will be the case.
I'm not saying he won't die magnificently in the future, but the way I've seen walk-on characters treated in most webcomics, the artist will try to find a way to kill the character off as soon as possible (probably due to usage/likeness rights issues).

In case you may think Rich Burlew doesn't put enough details into his comic, the rune circle at the Godsmoot is written in DwarfSpirits font and reads:

"THIS IS A CIRCLE OF TRUTH WHICH IS LIKE A ZONE OF TRUTH ONLY IT WORKS FOR NARRATIVE REASONS. TRUE DAT."

The Periodic table of Elementals might be my favorite creature class ever.

Now I'm curious how many Elementals haveaappeared in the comic.

According to the Number of Character Appearances mega-threads (does not include this latest strip, or (AFAIK) the non-webcomic sources):
  • Titanium Elemental (422, 423, 424)
  • Chlorine Elemental (457, 458)
  • Ranch Dressing Elemental (802, 835) (totally an element you guys)
  • Osmium Elemental (825, 826, 827)
  • Silicon Elemental (901, 902, 904, 905, 909)

That's what I love about the D&D world. If you're broke, just go out into the woods and hurt something. That's where you get rent money.

I love how meta Hailey's final comment is.

How would you know if the, say, 4 copper pieces you found were the result of 1d4, 2d4, 1d6, or even 4d20? Apparently in the OotS world, people just somehow know, and I find that hilarious.

It's good to see the paladins again. Btw, how many of the Sapphire Guard are left aside from those two? There's the guy with the celestial wolf and that's about it, right?
