[Gaming] Diablo 3 : Ser Farm-A-Lot

Okay, so....I'm hurting my head trying to work this out, and I can't properly compare since one option involves cubing my only RORG.
I just had 2 unities drop on me in one Rift (hurray for the RNG! I was hoping for Tall/short man's fingers, but I can work with this :p). My follower's already immortal, so that can give me a 50% damage discount - probably the single best toughness investment possible in solo play.
However, that means either cubing my RORG and giving up Convention of Elements, which is a very substantial amount of damage, or putting back on the Jade gloves. I do have an ancient version of that, but it's not a great one - and my current gloves (Ancient Frostburn) also give me quite a bit of damage (10% cold and 44% freeze chance to begin with - and all my damage is cold anyway).
Or, I could keep the RORG and Unity, and take off my other ring - but that's the only Ancient one, and the only one with a socket. Taking off Taeguk will no doubt affect my damage quite badly as well.
Between the two Unities, I'm fairly sure I'd take the first one (CHD and CHC) for myself; as it gives more damage than the other one and Unity'll improve my life drastically anyway.

Here's my RORG and what I assume would be "my" unity:
RORGandUnity1.png

Here's my other ring and the other Unity:
BoHWandUnity2.png

And here are the gloves:
Gloves.png

And for completeness' sake, the BOHW and the first Unity - which would be the "best" trade-off damage-wise going just by sheet damage (but possibly not in reality):

It may be because I'm tired, but I just can't figure out which combo would give me the most benefit, damage and toughness wise.

On the note of "things I finally figured out after about 100x longer than it should have taken me", I finally discovered/realized the cube recipe for turning Rares into Uniques doesn't require 25 Forgotten Souls, just a load of Death's Breaths. So, 250 or so Death's Breaths later, hello Crappy Harvester That'll Go Straight Into The Cube. Huge damage difference. Though I've now come to realize that playing with the Thing of the Deep (20 yards gold pick up) in the Cube has really spoiled me -not for gold, really, but for Progress Orbs. Sheesh. Keep forgetting to pick them up or missing them :p

Based on what you've shown me, you should talk to Myriam about your RoRG, see if she can't drill a socket where the life on hit used to be.
Otherwise, just keep doing bounties. Another one should drop within an hour or so assuming you're playing T7 or higher. Remember that RoRG only drops from whichever act is the bonus, so make sure you do them in order.

Also, the Unity power is extractable, so you could give the "good" one to your follower and keep the RoRG on your finger.

My monk's Unity is actually pretty good so I rolled off her dex and kept CHD, CHC and the extra elite damage.[DOUBLEPOST=1458750098,1458750057][/DOUBLEPOST]I worked on my monk last night and did a 60 with her that went really well. Then I got destroyed trying something higher level.

Put a socket in the RORG to keep Taeguk, ditched the BOHW, equipped both Unities. I went from "I can survive GR35 and probably one or two higher" to "I can stand in a couple of Arcane turrets on Desecrated ground while taking Molten explosions and barely see my health budge on GR39" (I'll have to farm some more GR stones :p). The power difference is ridiculous - the only reason I can't easily go to TX right now is damage output. Those Champion accomplishments are suddenly within reach! Hurray!
So, yeah, in solo play, 2 Unities really are ridiculously powerful. Though I don't know how you can say I might get another one in an hour - I always do my bounties in the bonus act (why would you not?) and these are the first two to drop for me this season :p

RoRGs drop from Act 1 and 4 caches. If you split speed farm, you'll get another RoRG quickly. If you were on the US servers, I'd be happy to help :)

Ah, yes, I really need to allow other people in my games :p

I figured since I could survive TIX I'd go and see just how far off that 6minutes for a NR I was - no doubt I'd be a good bit slower, but still, a target, right? Ahahahaha no. Took me 12 minutes. Though I admit I stopped trying when the RNGods threw a second group of Treasure goblins at me in the same rift. Oh well :p

I didn't say you'd get another Unity, I said you'd probably get another RoRG.
It used to be that you could only get the RoRG from the bounty cache in Act I, but when the pattern became that people would just farm Act I and then drop out to farm it again, they changed it so that it now drops from whichever cache has the bonus (and really, why wouldn't you want to go through them all in bonus order?). I've gotten 2 from the same cache before. Just work on upping your damage output so you can play the higher difficulty levels AND try joining some multiplayer games (there is that additional bonus to chance to find stuff when there are multiple players). Being able to do GR40 means you are capable of playing at T9 difficulty (T10 is GR45), so try joining some public games for bounties and see what develops. You see, when there are 3 other people farming bounties, everyone goes off to their own bounty, and you can complete an entire act (and get your caches) in something like 3-5min/act.

Or we could even join you on the eu servers.
You'd have to level us n00bs, though.

I just did a couple of bounties on TIX. Just went to show that a) I'm really slow for my level; b) being able to survive TIX solo is easier than in group; c) I'm probably no good at following others :p d) I really need to up my damage e) Demon Hunters may not really be my thing but they sure look cool

But you're more than welcome :)

Expermimenting with a Helltooth/GOTD build. Between Deadly Rebirth, Wilken's Reach and Unbreakable Grasp, unlimited GOTD with high damage and falling corpses. Pretty good at killing lots of mobs (but what isn't?), not quite the survivability of my Jade Harvester build - though that might be because that has more ancients and I have more experience with it. Still, bit fun. I figured it would be a sensible thing to strive for - having a high-damage no-cost no-cool-down skill with 900% extra damage seems like a good start - but it's not one I see used anywhere. Guess it doesn't work in the higher reaches. Put it on to try and master a set dungeon (no way is that going to happen with the Jade set), turns out it's an easy peasy dungeon....if you have an item preventing poison damage, which I don't. Oh well. I did forget to equip Joram's bracers (CD on Wall of Death reduced and damage increased), so that might've helped a bunch, too.

The Zuni dungeon was pretty straight forward. One day, I want to try and master them all. Just the WD ones. I don't have the patience to try and master ALL of them.

It's official!
Season 5 will be ending on Friday, April 15th.
Season 6 will be beginning on Friday, April 29th.
So there will be a two-week period to get your character slots all settled up, your stashes organized, and your strategies all planned out.

Any specific news about a new patch or other novelties for the next season?

Also, no way am I going to get another stash tab in 2 weeks. I really think they set that bar a bit on the high side, no casual player can get there; certainly not solo.

Blah blah bug fixes blah blah set pieces/set dungeons being tweaked.
Biggest thing is how many damage modifiers are going from additive to multiplicative in nature. No longer will it be mandatory to try and squeeze Bane of the Trapped into every single build.
Blizzard tried to change some stuff to make "spam the spawning of health globes" not be a viable rift strategy. Now many things that used to spawn health globes just heal the player instead or have a cooldown.
Quite a few legendary gems were rebalanced/redesigned, I'm especially interested in the changes to Gogok of Swiftness (added dodge %) and Simplicity's Strength (more healing/damage).
The Furious Charge enhancement bug will probably get fixed.
Exp in GR=>70 is being reduced.
Some QOL changes (like being able to more accurately see people's profiles)

You could probably make a stash tab in 2wks, but you'd probably have to play 4-8hrs a day in PUGs to do it.

Wait, I thought they did that at the beginning of this season

Anyway, slightly related question: how do some of the damage reducers work? Specifically, Uhkapian Serpent (at work, can't look at battle.net or any other Diablo source for spelling, sorry :) ) and Unity? One reduces damage by 50%, the other by 28% (well, 25-30, I think, but mine's 28% :p). Does that leave me with 22% of normal damage ( 100%-(50%-28%) ) or 36% ( (100%-50%)-28% )? I'm not dying either way (if only my damage was higher I'd be playing on a level where I would be dying again, of course :p ).

Nope.
how do [...] the damage reducers work?
Anything that says, "Reduces damage by xx%" adds an additional damage reduction step after armor and resist are calculated.
There's a mathematical formula that determines exactly how much damage gets reduced by armor and resist, but I won't go into that here because other people have already done so in plenty of detail. Basically they are interchangeable at a 10:1 ratio, so a character with 10000 armor and 0 resist will reduce damage exactly as much as a character with 0 armor and 1000 resist BUT a character with 5000 armor and 500 resist will be better off than either because damage reduction has always been multiplicative.

So if as a WD you have enough armor to have 67% DR (Damage Reduction) and enough resist all to have 87% DR, that means your total DR would be (100%-67%) * (100%-87%) which means incoming damage would be 0.33 * 0.13 = 0.043, or 4.3% of normal, meaning that anything that hits you for 100k actually only does 4290 points of damage.

Now the new damage reduction stuff (and some already existing items such as Stormshield, String of Ears, and Eye of Etlich) are all applied after* the above. So if you have Unity+Serpent equipped, the equation becomes 0.33 * 0.13 * 0.36 = 0.015 or 1.5% of normal, meaning that 100k incoming damage is reduced to only 1544.

--Patrick
*or before, or whatever...it doesn't matter because multiplication is commutative.

Resistance and Armor I was clear on, thanks ;-) It was just the others - Uhkapian and Unity both don't say they reduce damage, they share it...which means they're applied after armor and resists and DR, but I wasn't sure whether it was separate or at the same time :) It was the 36% I wasn't sure on, which depends on if you apply them multiplicative or additive to each other :)

Unity/Serpent share damage, sure, but that means the damage to YOU is reduced by (blah)%. The only restriction is if for instance your follower is dead or you have no dogs to share it with, in which case the damage doesn't get reduced ('cuz there's nothing to "share" it with). Serpent means you add a multiplier of 0.72 to incoming damage, Unity w/ follower is 0.50, so 0.5*0.72=0.36. More dogs = each dog takes less damage individually. More players with Unity = each player then takes 33% or 25% damage for 3 or 4 players respectively.

Eh, I'll probably sit the next season out again, then come back in s7 or s8. Lots of new stuff at a time to be intrigued/interested by.

In my case it's more that I was deliberately avoiding playing for so long, but now that I can play again, there's only 1 day left in the season.
