[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

Well, I assume he's gonna be in the next Justice League movie.
Both of them if you can still believe Warner Bros are not changing their plans.... and rumor has it a solo Batman movie as well. Won't be at all surprised when he shows up in Wonder Woman and Aquman's solo films either after all.... he is in Suicide Squad.

I am sure if Affleck does get the chance to do a Batman film it will be fine.... but are we really in need of yet another Batman film? I mean, I like Batman and all but there is so much more that could be done with the DC characters than more Batman.
Right now WB is establishing a DC universe that has a total of two movies in it so far, neither of which is considered a great movie. Their track record right now is kind of shit for anything non-Batman. I don't have confidence in them doing well with another property, and they shouldn't have confidence in themselves either.

Throwing out a new Batman movie to flesh out the universe, mix things up with Suicide Squad, and be a crowd pleaser and ticket-seller is kind of necessary as a confidence boost. WB is not a company that takes risks and their ideas bend with the wind. The wind right now remains pro-Batman, so it's time for another Batman movie. If that does well, as it probably will, then maybe they'll take a chance on another film.

I'm just saying that since they are definitely making a Batman movie and it will definitely star Ben Affleck, it'd be cool if they'd hand the reins over to him so it could be a good Batman movie.[DOUBLEPOST=1460321817,1460321657][/DOUBLEPOST]
he is in Suicide Squad.
Wait, what?

DC already made it clear they were looking at nixing a lot of the films on the DC slate if Suicide Squad doesn't do well... not that they were changing how they make the movies they are making but just aren't going to take chances on less established properties. Basically, stuff like Shazam! are going to get the axe if things don't turn around.

I've frankly given up on Warner Brothers at this point.

New Suicide Squad trailer.

Alright, I'm on board if this is how the movie is. Pretty sure the Joker is the villain and yeah, they're not hiding that Batman's going to be in this. Will Smith deadpan is great :D.

I'll see this because now it looks like a good time, but also I want to support this over Batman vs Superman. More fun, less broodshit.

I'm still hoping Jai Courtney is good in this. But I just know he's going to be killed off as a minor character early on.

Sooooo the bad guys movie is light and funny but the good guys movie is dour and murderous.... keep trying WB.
It was serious, but someone in WB marketing made a fun trailer for it, which people liked, so WB ordered reshoots (in the range of many millions of dollars) to change the tone of the movie, which we're now seeing the effects of that.

I'd like to see a good movie come out of all this; I don't care which character has to make it happen.

I suppose the success of Deadpool, another fun movie, probably had something to do with it too.

Honestly, if this turns it into a good movie, I'm on board. I'm actually excited to see this where as BvS had me depressed from Day 1.

Is this where we talk about the Suicide Squad movie? I want to see the Suicide Squad movie.

Also, the director flatly refutes all the shit about the reshoots:

I mean, it's not like he's going to come out and say "my movie sucked and made everyone panic", but it could be true. David Ayer has enough of a track record that I give him the benefit of the doubt.

That tweet implies that there are still reshoots, but they're to add action rather than humor. My only knowledge of the director is his creepy comments about Jared Leto; I have no idea on his honesty track record. I'd hope he's smarter than Josh Tran.

In any case, I'll be at Suicide Squad. This one looks like a good time.

I dunno if I'll see Suicide Squad. On one hand, the trailer was very enjoyable. On the other hand, most of the characters seem like large departures from their comic book versions. Harley, especially, seems off. More like a cheap lingerie model got dipped in Hot Topic and possessed by the ghost of The Nanny.

That sounds like where they keep steering her in the comics at times.

Yeah, I like OG Harley a lot better than the latest "Skankberry Brite" reimagining, TBH.

To be fair at this point HQ is basically DC's Deadpool. She hasn't been TAS-ish in a long time. Now she shows up in other people's books and acts crazy. She even had multiple voices in her head at one point (though one of them came out of a stuffed beaver or something like that).

Nope, she literally talked to a stuffed beaver named Bernie.

Still does on occasion.

I can't comment on the other books, but in her own book she's more of a force for good than chaos, and in a recent issue even had a confrontation with the Joker and put that part of her life behind her. I'm enjoying the book.

I think the thing with Harley is that you really can't market an abused woman to kids, so DC's spent the last 5-6 years neutering her relationship with the Joker to hide those origins from people who would otherwise buy her merchandise. This is PROBABLY the right move, but it's just going to make it sting more every time she and Joker get back together. Because they will. Because Comic Book Writers like it better like that.

I don't know. They seem to market well enough with orphans whose parents were murdered or refugees escaping their exploding world.

I'm giving it a C+. Gal Gadot was a great Wonder Woman but I found Jesse Eisenberg and Ben Affleck to be lacking. DC tried to turn comic book characters into gods and created a plodding film that lurched from one fight to the next. As Peter Griffin would say, it insists upon itself.

To clarify my previous post:

DC persists in turning every Batman movie into The Departed. And it tries to turn Superman into the Epic of Gilgamesh on screen. The DC folks keep trying to make profound, meaningful films but instead they come off as trite and pretentious.

Wow, those two adjectives almost perfectly describe Zack Snyder.
