[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

It sucks because I'd love to watch them, but the second-hand embarrassment is more than I can handle.[DOUBLEPOST=1463115771,1463115658][/DOUBLEPOST]Sad to find out Muppets was cancelled, but not surprised. I enjoyed it but people didn't like the shift in tone from what the Muppets usually were on TV.

if it helps, like Parks and Recreation the show gets so much better by the second season (and the first is mercifully short). The first few episodes is them trying to be an American version of the British show. When they stop that the awkward comedy lessens (but is still there), but the characters actually become likeable which helps a ton.

I'm trying to watch The Office (US) but oh God it's so awkward it hurts me physically and I'm only on episode two.
The first season made me so uncomfortable, I usually don't rewatch it,and I love The Office. But by the second season I feel like they found a better balance. I also find myself a tad more sympathetic to Steve Carrell than Ricky Gervais, because for some reason I'm less bothered by David Brent's crap than Michael Scott's. (But still cringing.)

It's more of "the way that people remember what the Muppets were on TV." Kinda like how you remember some of the Looney Tunes cartoons, and then you watch them as an adult and it's an entirely different experience.
Yeah, the Muppets of the past were a satire of the common hosted variety shows common for the time. It seems like a natural progression for it to become a behind the scenes meta show.

Yeah that was poorly phrased. I even got into a back-and-forth about the Muppet Show/Muppets Tonight/Henson Hour with someone because they tried to call it kids programming, which they were, but only partially. I mean, when you call your pilot Sex And Violence, obviously you're shooting for more mature audiences than Sesame Street, and the Muppet franchise has never really been a one-trick-pony. Henson hated stagnation.

e: And yes, I loved Parks and Rec and the first season hurt at points, too. Glad to hear Office will find its footing soon.

Despite what my contributions to the misanthropy thread might seem to indicate, I really can't deal with cringe-based humor. I practically have a physical reaction to it.

I think Season 6 of Supernatural gets a bum rap. It doesn't feel all that worse than previous seasons so far, albeit with some 4th wall breaking. But I do find myself less motivated to watch, despite this. I think it's just... fatigue. Five seasons of THE WORLD IS GONNA END just got resolved and now OH LOOK HERE WE GO AGAIN... I can feel my audience-joints aching, like an aging shortstop having to creak my way up off the bench for the 11th inning of the 6th game of a 7 game series.

I had to take a break from the show after s6, but I really don't think post-5 is as bad as people say. There's more Crowely and Castiel, who, at least in my opinion, are more fun to watch than Sam and Dean's constant post-apocalypse, denim-fueled angst.

Granted, you'll be worn out again come season 10, but I guess it depends on how quickly you binge.

Yeah, I think I'll put it on the back burner for a while, and rewatch something else that I've already seen several times - these days I need something I can safely fall asleep during without it meaning I have to rewatch the same episode the next night to see what I missed when I fell asleep.

I do the same thing. I've watched Scrubs, IT Crowd and Parks & Rec more times than I can count at this point. I've tried watching shows while I'm playing games that don't need sound (WoW, FFXIV, etc), but sometimes I get too into one or the other and miss stuff. I'm still not sure what happened in about 1/4 of the first 5 seasons of X-Files.

It normally takes 2 attempts to get through an episode of Gotham.[DOUBLEPOST=1463165354,1463165234][/DOUBLEPOST]Back to Gotham. It just pisses me off that the most evil super-villain on the show is Jim Gordon.

In my wild, young, single life, my going-to-sleep ritual was The Hunt for Red October on VHS. Put it on the TV, and I was usually asleep before the "dodging the torpedo in Red Route 1" scene.

The US Office gets a lot better after the first season, and I feel it's a lot less cringey than UK Office. The characters all kinda start out as horrible people, just as they do in the UK version, but by season 2 they start to mellow and actually develop likeable personalities. Also, Jim and Pam is one of the sweetest stories ever told.

My wife uses MASH for that reason. Basically something that she's seen so much that she can fall asleep to it, and if she wakes up in the middle of the night not feel like she has to figure out what is going on. We keep about 25 episodes on the Tivo all the time, and the play all feature is great for sleeping to.

MRW Netflix asks if I'm still watching

I'm honestly curious how much longer Blacklist is going to go for, too.

The female lead's character is supposedly dead. I thought it was a red herring at first, but it's stuck for a few episodes now and she's not on the title cards anymore.

I don't hate Ben Stiller. I just can't stand the vehicles that usually feature him.

Man if I were watching The Office as it aired the end of season 2 would have killed me due to the wait for next season.
Gotten better for you I take it?[DOUBLEPOST=1463428467,1463428344][/DOUBLEPOST]I just finished all of Justified. What a consistently great show. I thought the ending was pretty satisfying. I think my favorite season of the show has to be season 4 though. They were firing on all cylinders with that one.

Yeah, it's definitely the same formula Parks and Rec used later on, the short first season was almost totally different in tone compared to the second.

Grimm:

I'm a little disgruntled about Captain Renard's character development this season. I'm hoping it's building to a season finale where he'll say "AHA! I was fooling you the whole time!" and we're all like whaaaaaaaaaaaat.

Gotta be honest, if it weren't for the Jim/Pam thing I'd be pretty close to dropping Office.

OH NO MICHAEL TOLD EVERYONE SOMETHING HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO AND TRIED TO TAKE OVER RUNNING A MEETING, HIJINX ENSUE is getting kind of old.

Yeah, and I'm sure part of the issue is coming from binging the show, but either way Michael's troubles are really formulaic and becoming redundant.
