Another thing about ID4: they tell us that a lot of modern tech was derived from studying the Roswell ship (which I always frankly find insulting), which we've been studying since the 40s. Now in 20 years we've been able to adapt all this alien technology by... doing the exact same thing. Why are we suddenly much better at it? I get that there's more of it, but more doesn't necessarily make it easier to understand.

Well, for one thing, they didn't have Mac Powerbooks in the 1940's. That appeared to be crucial to understanding the alien computers. :)

They didn't have to pretend there were no aliens and we had no tech, would be my guess. One crashed fighter vessel in the hands of an ultra-secret government group, compared with dozens of crashed motherships all over the globe spurring worldwide reverse engineering by anyone who could get their hands on a piece of it.

Plus humanity might be more motivated to reverse-engineer the alien tech now that they know that large-scale alien invasions are a real prospect. Before, with the Area 51 crashed ship, they just had a small team of people studying the ship as a curiosity. Now they'd have the whole world devoting their best minds and tons of funding to this issue.

Also, in ID4 they mention that the alien tech was non functioning until the mother ship arrived, and how in just a few weeks they'd made huge advances just because it was now switched on and working

Somewhere, Ozymandias sits back and says, "I told you so."

I may not be the best judge of male attractiveness around, but he is damn ugly.
The thumbnail on the video at first made me think he was trying to look like Jared Padalecki, another man that women seem to think is dreamy but strikes me as just gangly, awkward, beetle-browed and in need of a haircut.

I made this same mistake. I had to double look to make sure it wasn't him.

My favorite response on Io9 to this preview was that this dude is what would happen if the brothers on Supernatural had a kid.

He's not only the male lead on a feature film with enough money for CGI, but also on a CBS show/franchise with a lot of studio clout behind it. He's a hot guy, like his job description is "top 1% attractiveness".

I will freely admit that I love the Jersey Chronicles. I bonded with old friends over the movies, and they're still pretty special to me.

Whatever got into Smith's head over the last few years with Tusk, Yoga Hosers, Red State, etc, though, needs to go.

Someone needs to tell Kevin Smith that not every stupid idea he and his buddies have needs to be a movie.
I listen to Kevin Smith's podcast a lot, and he's been very open that he's to a point now where he just makes movies for him, and doesn't care if they're successful or if anyone else likes him. This movie in particular was made for his daughter, and also stars her.

I kinda respect that.
