And when they get older, they require "trigger warnings" and "safe spaces." I've NEVER given out trigger warnings and I never will. If they're so fragile that they can't even hear about atrocities committed in the 30 Years' War (1618-1648) then maybe they shouldn't be in a military history class.
I can't tell what the scare quotes are for. Are you annoyed at the misplaced requests, or are you opposed to both concepts on principle, due to who tries to advance them, and/or due to implementation details? The following changed my mind on both fronts, and they might be interesting reads for you:

I fucking hate Windows 10.
I spent all of Thursday evening disabling and uninstalling bullshit to get the computer the way I wanted it. I left it plugged in last night though, which apparently triggers automatic maintenance, so Windows 10 on its own accord went about checking for updates to all my programs and then reinstalling a bunch of things it felt were missing. It even reset my Steam settings back to default.
I'm working on disabling the auto-maintenance as well, along with wasting a bunch of time putting things back the way I wanted them again, but at this point I'm wondering if I should just install Windows 7 from disc in lieu of waiting for the next Windows 10 surprise.
It's even a challenge disabling shit because Microsoft seems to change the locations of things to make them more difficult to find, making online help outdated after a couple months. Fucking ridiculous.

It makes updating video drivers the literal fucking worst.
I was able to restore everything to the way it was last night before the auto-maintenance. Then I went into regedit and disabled the auto maintenance.
Good thing too, because apparently this update altered Cortana so it can't be turned off the way I turned it off earlier this week.

I read both and, while the authors make some decent points, I'm not convinced. I'm more annoyed at the misplaced requests and the people who advance them because, while there are people who are indeed suffering from PTSD, the vast majority of requests for trigger warnings and safe spaces are from Trigglypuff and special snowflakes on Tumblr. I get it, they want to make the world a kinder, gentler place. But they're also nineteen years old so their approach is completely ham-fisted; EVERYTHING is an attack by the patriarchy and whatnot.
I spent this past summer teaching the history of law to a class of gifted middle schoolers. We went into detailed descriptions of ancient war atrocities and buccaneers torturing their captives. If my class of twelve-year-olds thoroughly enjoyed it, there's no reason fully grown adults need to be warned about 300-year-old illustrations depicting pirates being executed.

I dislike speaking for others, but Z was being sarcastic and using hyperbolic statement to outline his thoughts. He doesn't strike me as someone who would harbor murderous intent, let alone be stupid enough to broadcast this onto a public forum.
Problem is, "I was being sarcastic," or, "I was only kidding," are not valid defenses in a court of law. We've been through that in other threads. We may know he didn't really mean it, but we're not the ones who would need convincing if the worst were to happen. Better to cover everyone's butt and leave some stupid things left unsaid.
Unfortunately, there have been plenty of cases where someone was injured or died because someone else "thought they could handle it," or went against the preparation instructions. Nut/shellfish allergies can kill, and they can do so faster than you can say, "Omigosh I'm sorry I didn't know you were legit here let me call 911 for you."

To be fair, though, I've known two people who have had PSU fans go out on them overnight, resulting in actual fire in their homes.

Where I work depends on roughly 20-30 computers that never shut down. Only once has any of them caught fire, and it wasn't the PSU

On a related note, I seem to have made the right call in sticking to 7 and forgoing my "free upgrade" to 10. That way I don't have to worry about what my machine is doing when I'm gone... matter of fact, if all 183 of my steam games AREN'T up to date when I get home, I get peeved.
