[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

Yeah, I mean Penguin is really dark, but I think people would associate him with either the goofy 60's version or even the toon-y looking TAS version. He's deeper than "ha ha fatty in a suit" but I don't know that he'd draw in an audience.
I could see the Penguin working like Scarecrow did in the Dark Knight trilogy: a minor villain who plays a role in the movies, but usually not a very large or important one.

I'm not going to hang the movie just for using Deathstroke. There's no reason it can't work with the right writers. From what I've heard, the current Deathstroke comic is good, though I have no interest in it.
I'd rather this than the Joker again, especially Leto's Joker.

Batman has a ton of bad guys. Let's say you can't use anyone who's already been in a previous series of movies, who would you guys have as a bad guy? So far we've seen

Joker
Penguin
Catwoman
Riddler
Two-Face
Mr. Freeze
Poison Ivy
Bane
Ras al Ghul
Scarecrow
The Roman

And then Deadshot, Killer Croc, and Harley Quinn are all in jail.

That's everybody from the Adam West show and most of the memorable ones from TAS. So who else do we want in there? I don't think now's a good time for a Court of Owls movie. So, Mad Hatter? Man-Bat? Calendar Man?

Whaaaat?

You're missing King Tut, Egghead, Bookworm and Mad Hatter among others.

I wouldn't mind seeing a two-face movie. All we've gotten is a last minute afterthought, and Tommy Lee Jones trying to be the joker and being out jokered by Jim Cary's Riddler.

Make it a two parter.

Apparently my 60s Batman viewing was not as complete as I thought. I once watched a weekend marathon of it as a kid, but I guess all they played were Penguin, Joker, Riddler, and Catwoman episodes.

Show had ooodles of one shot villains too like Queen something or other, Shame the evil Cowboy and such too.

Also, if you want more Adam West-style Batman content, check out Batman '66. It's basically a comic book continuation of the show, one that also incorporates other stuff from the comics like a luchadore Bane and Lord Death Man.

I think Jason Todd would've been a feasible option, given the defaced Robin costume we saw in BvS.

Hugo Strange might also work, if you want a villain who can out-think Batman. Though that might cause confusion with the upcoming Dr. Strange movie.

Anyway, I rather like the choice of Deathstroke, though admittedly my knowledge of the character is mainly from the Injustice game and comics, and he's rather badass there.

I'm having a hard time seeing Hugo Strange working in this universe just yet. I'm not sure why. Also, the comics are now calling him Professor Strange to alleviate the issue.

Red Hood would definitely work, and they could still fit that into this movie without it feeling crowded. Good thinking there.

I think some who are sick of him remember when Teen Titans turned into the Robin and Slade show.

Honestly I didn't even realize Slade and Deathstroke were the same guy till later on in the series. I know it sounds silly, but for some reason, even knowing Deathstrokes name was Slade Wilson, I just thought it was some guy they made for the TV show rather then a classic character that was given a simplified name for censorship reasons. I guess Deathstroke was just always that unremarkable to me.

I do like the little rib TTGO did on it though.

"Three episodes." If only.

All of my knowledge of the Deathstroke character comes from TV show Arrow. So.....I dunno how he works as a Batman villain.

It is always time for a Parliament of Owls movie.
The only problem is they'd have to lose. :p

In order of my preference:
Clayface, Lady Shiva, the Royal Flush Gang, Anarky, Maxie Zeus, Zsasz, the KGBeast, Black Mask... there are lots of better choices than Deathstroke.

Since this Batman is in a world with metahumans, aliens, etc. It seems like a perfect time for a Clayface appearance.
And let's be fair, the Scarecrow as a minor villain shouldn't really count. That could just as well have well been Cornelius Stirk for all he actually did in the film. It would make more sense to rule out Deathstroke because of his role on Arrow than to rule out Scarecrow for his role as a red herring in a different Batman's continuity.

I'd kinda ruled out Clayface as DC seems to be wanting to steer clear of anything remotely similar to the Green Lantern movie and I thought that had a big stuff monster? And in regards to that, Clayface done wrong isn't a Clayface I want to see. Sometimes writers remember he was an actor before he became a sludge monster, others don't. My favorite recent bits of him remember this; one being the latest arc of Detective Comics where he's on Batman's side, and the other I don't want to say because even knowing he's in it kinda ruins the sudden surprise.

But Zsasz? Zsasz > Deathstroke?

Tally man was in a Batman movie back when Deathstroke was still animated.

Well then, that covers him. No need to revisit :p.

To be clear, I'm not advocating Deathstroke; I'm just saying there's no need to exclude him.

It's not like he can ruin this series of movies, ya know?

Wasn't Clayface able to imitate or create different appearances? If done right, I could see them making a great Batman thriller with him. And it would require Batman to be a detective, in addition to the required action sequences. Something similar to the intensity of Killgrave in Jessica Jones: "Is it Clayface? Or is this just another person?" He'd be able to hide in plain site.

Yep, that's also why his experience as an actor is integral to his story

My only issue with Clayface was how much I loved him in Batman TAS, how he was a villain but had a sympathetic side that really made you feel for the horror he was going through (Similar to how I felt with their version of Mr. Freeze). Every time I see him now, even when done well (Arkham City) I just... I just don't enjoy him being the general bad guy.

I really like what they're doing with him in the current Detective Comics run.

The next issue, they put tech on Clayface that locks him into human form for training, and afterward this happens:

The reason I say that is it would force a different plot to the movie than "bad guy about to destroy all of Gotham and Batman has to race around in the Batmobile to stop it". What's Deathstroke really going to be that he wasn't already on Arrow? What will he be that Al Ghul, the Joker and Bane/Talia weren't already?

Writing a plot around Zsasz would force the focus away from "stunt spectacular" and draw out more of the World's Greatest Detective angle. It would be a chance to highlight the type of threat a character like Zsasz could be, if he weren't horribly mishandled. His original appearance was mystery, of how he was seemingly managing to get more kills while trapped inside of Arkham. In other appearances he's thrown away pathetically by him blatantly holding hostages and confronting the police and/or Batman. Imagine a Zsasz that's a scalpel to the Joker's cream-pie bazooka. The Joker revels in the widespread chaos he's caused, flamboyantly causing mayhem and confronting Batman openly. Zsasz kills quietly, patiently, elusively. The conflict is indirect, but still personal. The chaos isn't an exploding hospital, but a surgeon killed just before a heart transplant. It's not a bomb set to destroy the city, it's a foreign diplomat killed when tensions are already high. It's exactly the wrong person killed at the worst possible time.

Imagine a Batman who hasn't even seen the killer he's chasing. A Batman who has brought down mob bosses and psychopaths, but isn't even quite sure that one person is behind the Zsasz killings. A Batman who suspects that these murders are meant to not just kill a person, but to cause further chaos with the deaths. A Batman who has been sifting through clues for months, but still can't put a face or a motive to a series of crimes that might just be getting more aimed at the Batman and his work as time goes on. Make a killer who causes Batman to not just fear for the people of Gotham, but one who causes Batman to fear the limits of his own detective skills, possibly one who makes Bruce doubt his own sanity.

Granted, such a tale of suspense is not going to happen at the hands of the current DC higher-ups, but at least Zsasz as a villain wouldn't easily lend itself to the "Batman stunt spectacular" that I'm growing a little tired of.

That sounds like a great movie that we'll never see.

I think we need to accept that detective Batman is going to mainly be the comics. I've seen story comics where they play up this angle and it's wonderful, and often Batman TAS would do this (though to be fair, a bunch of Superman TAS episodes had him playing detective too, so I think that was just part of the show format at the time). If Affleck were to make a mystery, starring Batman, we'd probably finally get a movie that the people who adored BvS and Suicide Squad would complain about.

They've got J Jonah Jameson, Flash Thompson, and Norman Osborn.

Now we just need Tobey McGuire, Kirsten Dunst, and James Franco to get roles in DC movies.

Look, unless he spends most of the movie with his shirt off, I'm still iffy about the whole Deathstroke thing.

Deathstroke is secretly a werewolf stripper, right? Oh please, oh please, oh please....

Dunst as Oracle.
Franco as Hal Jordan.
Tobey as Jimmy Olsen. An actual Jimmy Olsen, this time. Give him a camera and have him act nerdy, he's already shown he can do that.

I think he's good for it. Sadly, I can't think of an instance so far where an actor said publicly that they wanted a particular role in a superhero movie and then got it. I keep seeing articles about one person or another wanting the role, and it doesn't happen.
