[PC Game] World of Warcraft: Catch All Thread

Bleh. Harsh reminder this morning that Dark Iron is a PVP server. And that linked servers can suck. Alliance from Kel'Thuzad swarming over southeastern Azsuna, camping the flight point and questgivers. Might as well break for dinner.
I started on a PVP server when the game first released due to friends. By the time WOTLK was in full swing and my wife wanted to play some Alliance, I convinced her to move to a PVE server. It was so relaxing by comparison that I made the Alliance character my new main, and then later on, sometime during Cata or early MoP, I paid good money to transfer all my hordies completely off that PVP server onto another PVE server. I never looked back.

I can go days on end without running into world PVP. Most of the time everyone is too busy questing to bother each other. It's just times like this that it gets annoying.
It really does depend on the server. Back in BC/WOTLK on Tichondrius, just trying to quest was a shitshow. Don't even try to go collect herbs or ore, because the minute you crossed paths with another faction on a node run you were fighting for that fucking Titanium. In the end about 80% of my worst game memories involve world pvp I had no desire to be a part of, that ended in me leaving my play day early. It's just not worth it to me, I need my playtime to be more controlled these days.

Hell, my worst experience in Legion so far was walking into the Underbelly for the first time not realizing it's now a free for all PVP zone. Blizzard didn't go a great job pointing out the whole bodyguard system that allowed you be exempt from it, so I had a quest for Jewelcrafting that sat unfinished for four days because I didn't want to go down there and get stuck resurrecting a good six times again, which is what happened the first time I tried to do that quest.

Man I can't wait to play this again. Probably be dumped from my guild by then for inactivity. But what can you do?

Aren't you the guildmaster? I don't think anyone's still really left in the Crimson Battalion. Even I'm back on Dark Iron.
I was talking about my active Horde account on Dark Iron. They are all level 100. The allies I have are all level 85, I think.

Started this crack-whore of a game again. Hit 110 on my Gnome Mage. Love Arcane spec for PvE and Fire just dominates PvP. Aluneth (Arcane artifcat) is hilarious. The staff has a trapped magical entity living inside it and it randomly mocks you while you have it equipped. For example. If you conjure some mana biscuits the staff will whisper you with, ""Your talents are wasted on.... pudding."

I really enjoy the talking Artifacts. Warlocks and Priests get one too.

Demonology Warlocks get "Skull of the Man'ari", which is the floating skull of a former Eredar warlock. Here are some of my favorite lines.

Casting Eye of Kilrogg - "Only ONE eye? Don't complain to me because you have no depth perception."
Casting Ritual of Summoning - ""Seeking a creature from the Twisting Nether? Grabbing a beast from the Void? Oh... You're just summoning a friend..."
Casting Call Dreadstalkers - "Unleash the hounds!"
He also has a lot of situational location lines, commenting on new zones or bosses in dungeons. He even has some slight voice interactions with your demon minions that you have summoned.

Shadow Priests get "Xal'atath", which is made from the claw of an Old God and has gained sentience (or maybe a remanent of the Old Gods sentience). Way less spell comments though and more situational comments. Here are some samples...

In Azuna - "The Legion burrows deep here. If they burrow deeper, they may not like what they find."
In the Class Hall - "I know the naaru consider us horrors to be resisted. We do not share this view. They are merely beloved brethren that lost the true path. They will return to their masters... in time."
In Val'Sharah - "To see Yogg-Saron's nightmare in full bloom fills me with jealousy... and some pride."

Actually she gives some neat tidbits. Like I never knew that the Nightmare was first started by Yogg-Saron, I always thought it was N'Zoth, but due to this quote I remember that the Nightmare seed first started when Yogg-Saron corrupted Vordrassil, and that N'Zoth has only been spreading it further from the Rift of Aln, the doorway that Yogg-Saron had left opened for them to influence the Dream. Fun stuff.

I was this close to buying Legion. This close! Then I read a bunch of people on NeoGAF talking about rep grinds and such and that switch just immediately turned off. I remembered all the parts of WoW I didn't like.

Crisis averted.

I mean, yeah there's rep but welcome to MMOs.

Outside of that honestly I don't feel the grind that much save for one rep, otherwise I just do World Quests/Mythics/etc and the rep comes in, along with gear/gold/etc. This might be the most engaging endgame WoW has been without a raid in a decade.

It wasn't just the rep grinds, that was just the impetus of what reminded me of all the stuff I didn't like.

You know, I couldn't put my finger on it before, but on reflection does anyone else get a huge "Assassin's Creed" vibe once you really get questing in Suramar? Obviously not in the gameplay department, but the overall way it's presented, with the stealth and sneaking around among the populace?

Suramar is definitely a treat. At first I hated the meta-game with the Ancient Mana, but as I have gone through it and increased my mana supply pool and started collecting crystals, it's been a lot better. I like that we build up a base for the Nightfallen, watching it grow little by little, new NPCs recruited, others added as refugees and such. You also can build the teleporter network to get around easier, unlock leylines using light puzzles, etc. I must say I am impressed with this expansion, and I worried I was going to be too bitter about losing my Garrison to enjoy it.

Man if I had the option I'd burn that fucking Facebook Game Manager of a Garrison down and watch it go to ash. Leaving it behind was one of the best things about landing on the Broken Isles.

We can agree to disagree. I know many people hated it, but it was one of my favorite things added to this game, and made me actually feel at a respectable level when it came to things like gear and gold in the time I had to play. It was always working for me, even when I was too busy changing diapers or chasing my son around the house. I can't "grind" as much as I used to, so all my time is precious, and so anything that allows me to "keep up" without grinding hours on hours of gameplay is a good thing to me. It was also one of the only things that had a real level playing field (a top tier raider didn't get more out of it then the average dungeoneer) outside of pet battles.

At least Class Halls bring it back in a small capacity, I just wish there was a way to auto-generate resources, mostly so alts have an easier time keeping them rolling.

My biggest gripe with Legion is it feels very alt-unfriendly. There's so much more to do at level cap with World Quests/PvP/dungeons/AP farming/etc that I find it really hard to swap to other characters, and getting them ready for anything past normal dungeons at 110 takes a bit more work.

Yes it does feel like it will be one of the most alt-unfriendly expansions. It will remain to be seen what "catch up" mechanics they might use though.

Yeah, I could see them doing something with the Artifact Research down the line, like allowing you to start it at a lower level or shorten the time needed (maybe 1 day as opposed to 3).

It would be better if they just made it so Artifact Knowledge was account wide. All alts would still have to earn tokens / power, but they all would ramp up much faster with each consecutive alt. To prevent stacking make the Artifact Knowledge Work Order also account wide, so it can only happen once on all characters.

I remember MoP feeling very alt unfriendly because you had to grind so many reps to buy gear, but it got better.

To be fair I ain't too worried about gear. You have to be friendly with most of the factions just to unlock world quests, and you can easily get friendly by just doing the "starter" series of quests in each zone. You also get a ilevel 800 piece of gear for friendly, and a helmet from your Class Hall just for hitting 110, then the World Quests usually have a few 800+ gear drop quests. It's not perfect, but it's something. The artifact itself is where people will get hit the hardest, that and trying to keep up with Class Resources on all the alts.

True. Though getting over 800ilvl once you open WQs is crazy easy. I've only done a handful of dungeons with my Warrior and she's already almost 820 thanks to WQ gear.

Finally finished the paladin class campaign and got the upgrade skins. Feel like such a badass now. Will have to look a bit more into unlocking the other looks and the hidden ones.

I am kind of annoyed by how random the hidden ones are. Some can be purchased with gold, some are random drops from events like the Withered Training, some require quests or specific research, and some are rare drops on raids. If you play a Beast Master Hunter you just go to the Dalaran Engineering Shop and purchase it before you even leave to go level, but you main a Guardian Druid? Well, hope you like running LFR.

I know the change up is supposed to make it more interesting by keeping the collection process varied, but instead it just makes some specs feel shafted. Would rather each version just had a unique world quest for it.

BoE relic? There's a handful of those that basically have replaced weapon drops. You could even get Relics you can't use, similar to getting armor types you don't wear.

All the classes share relic types, but not all of them in the same order. For instance, on Truthguard (Paladin Protection) I start with Holy and Iron relic slots, but can unlock a third Arcane slot. If you play arcane mage, you get two Arcane slots and then unlock a third Frost slot. This means you can easily get a relic drop that is for your third slot early, because it needs to drop for other classes that get it as their first slots.

Rogue is my main right now and I love everything about it. Sub is a little wonky, but Outlaw and Assassination are super fun. Easily my favorite campaign so far, too, of the three I've finished (Rogue, Warrior, Shaman).

I've been buying out Living Steel and Ghost Iron like crazy lately on my engineer to make Sky Golem mounts. Takes 30 days to create one with the 1 a day cool down, but man oh man, that 90k gold is beautiful. Living Steel is on avg going to 750-1000g per bar on my server, someone put up 15 stacks of 10 tonight for 300 per bar. I've never clicked 'buy' so fast. I'll flip most of it for profit and keep 3 months worth for more Golem making.

You know, I went back to Pandaria for the first time in awhile to grab a few transmogs, and holy shit I forgot how big of a continent it was. It makes the Broken Isles feel so puny.

Yeah, pretty happy about that. My Mage, Hunter and DH are all pretty behind and my Rogue (main) is swimming in resources she doesn't need now that I'm AK25 and have all the hall research done.

Patch 7.1.5 hits in the morning. New Artifact Knowledge catch-up compendiums will be available. If you've got a main maxed out (like I do), you'll be able to spend order hall resources to get alts up to level 20 AK in one go.
Also if you are not maxed out, or just restarting, you can purchase books that take you up to 15 without a time gate.
