[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

I think he's good for it. Sadly, I can't think of an instance so far where an actor said publicly that they wanted a particular role in a superhero movie and then got it. I keep seeing articles about one person or another wanting the role, and it doesn't happen.
I feel like Ryan Reynolds getting to re-do Deadpool is the only time it's ever happened.

But that's less asking for a job and more like creating one since it was so much his project. If one of these celebrities was pitching a project, I could see a chance then. But I feel like the reason a lot of these don't happen is either because the studios like to keep these kinds of contract negotiations quiet until they're ready, or because they're not short on celebrities who want to be part of these big franchises, so they get to pick and choose.

That said, I think they should at least take a look at the celebrities who go out of their way to express interest. Those are people who are at least passionate enough that they'd want to stick around. I mean, they have to be right for the role and do the audition process, etc., but people passionate about the material is usually a good thing.

Jackie Earle Haley is the only one I remember... he sent Zack Snyder a tape of him with a homemade Rorschach mask, doing stuff from the comics.

As long as Ryan Potter doesn't start stalking Ben Affleck while wearing a Catwoman costume, I think it won't be a big deal.

EDIT: For @Zero Esc - the short version: Sean Young REALLY wanted the part of Catwoman in Batman Returns, so she spent an inordinate amount of time stalking Tim Burton, and to a lesser extent Michael Keaton, in a homemade Catwoman costume.

You can add R. Lee Ermey to that list, though it wasn't for a superhero movie.

And if people with projects got movies just for making demo tapes, then this guy would've gotten his movie made by now.

R. Lee Ermey is kind of a special case. He was a technical advisor on Full Metal Jacket but the actor they were using for the DI wasn't up to par, and Ermey made that very clear. Ermey had already been in a few movies, and he asked Kubrick to put him in the role. Kubrick declined, and Ermey responded by barking orders to "STAND UP WHEN YOU'RE BEING SPOKEN TO!" and when Kubrick realized he instinctively stood up, he gave Ermey the part. Ermey is also one of the only people Kubrick ever allowed to improvise on one of his movies (though he did not, as is often reported, improvise most of his dialogue).

I thought it was the vituperative VHS that got him the position?

...or is this apocryphal?

Both stories are on the IMDB page for the movie, so, hard to say. Both might be partially true - ie the demo might have gotten him the consultant job, and so on from there, or neither may be true.

You'd have to ask Ermey at this point. Or Kubrick if you know a good medium that isn't just a con artist who's good at doing cold reads.

They wanted to lighten up the DCCU, so anytime Batman quips, he'll throw on those sunglasses.

"Flash! Go help Aquaman."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, he's DROWNING in bad guys."
"YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH!"

So that's not Nite Owl 2? Because it doesn't fucking look like Batman.

Ok, so, the only thing I can assume is that those are welding goggles that he put on while he's working on shit. Why is he doing welding work while wearing the Batsuit? I don't know, I don't want to kink shame Bruce Wayne.

Apparently, this is supposed to be his tactical suit.

Not gonna lie. If the way WB/DC fixes their movies is by revealing we've actually been watching the birth of Earth 3?

...hell, who am I kidding? Nothing can save this disaster at this point.

He seems to do a lot while wearing the batsuit. There are episodes of the animated series where he's just doing research or scanning the computer. There's no reason for him to be geared up; he just is, as if wearing it puts him in work mode. "Darknesssss"

Wait, is this part of the whole"Watchmen is part of the regular DC Universe now"? Are we really doing this?
It's way too early for Rebirth!

Except we're in some strange situation where the TV shows are in post-Flashpoint aka New 52, except everything's fun and the multiverse exists, whereas the movies are pre-Flashpoint, but grim and angry. Anything is possible!

I ... accidentally resparked the Man of Steel neck-snap argument on Tumblr.

This has to be the most "more persecuted than thou" group of fans I've ever seen.

That's not how Tumblr works. Like, this thing grew out of my control in a way that I can't even respond to it, because different people reblogging it with their comments has created different conversation chains, and those have branched into different conversation chains. I get the snippets in my activity feed, to the point now that I wish I hadn't made the damn Supergirl screen cap, but the thing has taken on a life of its own. I could delete it from my Tumblr and that won't stop it. And that's not even to start on the angry private messages I get sent anytime I make a joke about one of those movies (except about Jared Leto; he seems to be free game).

It was really cool when Superman broke Zod's neck. It was the most interesting thing I've ever seen Superman do in any movie or story, to be honest.
Can you elaborate? I'd like to know what interests you about it.

EDIT: Actually, probably better question--has anything else Superman's done in what you've seen been interesting to you? Or is this more like "he's so boring that even this dull thing is interesting compared to everything else."

Because to me, snapping a neck is a simple solution to a conflict; lots of characters do it, and I've seen Superman do much more interesting conflict resolutions, either emotionally or spectacle.

Supergirl, too. I'm impressed with how on the show she's been talking down problems. It's part of why I'm glad Supergirl exists as a show, because maybe people can see that having a superhero like that doesn't mean having to make them kill to be interesting; really there shouldn't be a huge difference in Superman and Supergirl's demeanor. I've seen some people complain, but I have no problem with the showrunners taking Superman stories and villains and giving them to Supergirl, because in our current cultural climate, I'm not sure anyone can portray Superman like a person. Better to have the stories live on through Supergirl than all end in neck-snaps.

Really, the neck-snap isn't my biggest issue with Man of Steel. That would be Jonathan Kent.

I saw it as the WHY he doesn't kill anyone, considering this is kinda Superman's first fight, and he has to kill off the last remnant of Krypton, the last descendant, etc as far as he knows. Making it part of his origin to get forced to kill his last kinsman was a little interesting! Also, full disclosure, I haven't seen/read much Superman AT ALL

I actually agree with this, partially. It COULD have been that, but I don't feel like the movie or its follow-up have explored that or given it any emotional depth.

To see a better version of the Superman necksnap, read What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way or watch Superman vs The Elite.
