Although Canadian, I haven't seen much support for Trump amongst my very conservative religious community either. That said, Mennonites are pacifists and some of his rhetoric was a huge turn off. But they also see through the smokescreen of his religious pandering pretty easily. We still laugh about "two Corinthians"

There are plenty who feel that way but wouldn't call them out publicly, as it's outside of their sphere of responsibility. Everyone is a hypocrite in some fashion, after all, and to name one single political party draws an artificial boundary that only serves to divide. This is not the mission of the church.
Divide and conquer makes for successful politics, though.

But he didn't win, though he did cause Hillary to shift her position on a few key issues, and she's still far preferable than her competition. I mean, yeah, she's more closely tied to Goldman Sachs and other big banks than I'd like. But that's been known for literally the entire campaign, and at this point, I don't really see it making a difference.

The truth about these dysfunctional, downscale communities is that they deserve to die. Economically, they are negative assets. Morally, they are indefensible. I've been saying this for years and been called a monster for it. It's a huge problem in South East Ohio and by extension, West Virginia; all these old coal towns and farming communities can no longer self sustain and need to be abandoned. It would be saner and more economically viable for the government to buy them all out and offer to pay relocation costs to a town/city of their choice than to keep paying benefits to these communities for another 50-100 years when half of them can't even make a supermarket economically viable. The jobs aren't coming back, there is nothing left for you here.

The only defense he has is that he had to do it for political reasons, which to me is not that crazy, but when you're running for a party that's entire focus right now is ending "politics as usual" I don't see how he could play that.

John Kasich has been publicly calling him out all afternoon.
I kind of feel like Kasich is shooting for the top spot come 2020 and he might get it, considering the political poison a lot of other candidates are after this Trump debacle.

Assuming the Republican party doesn't shatter after this utter debacle.
I think Kasich could survive that, switching to the Libertarians or whoever it is that steals the Republican's thunder. He's been anti-Trump since Day 1 and hasn't budged from that position, wisely betting that Trump would turn the party into a laughing stock.
I wouldn't doomsay the Republican Party to irrelevance just yet. They've backed the wrong horse before for presidency; what'll be telling is how well Johnson does and the number of Republicans ousted/voted in for Congress.

Frankly I really hate to bring it up because it may be the most legitimate reason for sane republicans to still vote for Trump.
But I also hope they realize what a monster he is. As Ted Cruz said, vote your conscience. And if your conscience leads your to trump, as it did with Cruz, maybe you should reconsider what it really means to be a member of the religious right when you can vote for a philanderer. A man who admitted to sexual assault. Ask what it means to be a fiscal conservative when you vote for a man who ran business after business into the ground thanks to his own ego.
Ask what it means to be a supporter of a free market voting for Amman who has admitted and shown he would do every dishonest trick he could to turn a buck, a man who has stolen from small businesses and refused to pay taxes, because it was what the law let him do. Imagine what he would do in a free market.
Ask what it means to be a capitalist voting for a man who violated the trade embargo with Cuba.
Ask what it means to be a supporter of America's place as the leader of the free world voting for a man who has said he may not support our obligations to NATO.
