Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

I'm guessing in those cases the skin tastes good but the meat is still dry and bland.
Dude, just do this recipe: http://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/alton-brown-s-classic-brined-and-roasted-turkey

Done it 3 times, turned out perfect every time. Easy-to-follow instructions.

And here's a cheat for you: if you have a container that fits in the refrigerator with everything in it (I do!), just use the equivalent quantities of water rather than ice, and make sure your stock is made and pre-cooled as well, and then you don't need to worry about ice to keep things cold overnight. The fridge does the job. Then just drain it in the morning (brining TOO long is bad), put it back in the fridge, and you're good until it goes in the oven later in the day.

I only just discovered brining. My wife went from "please never make chicken again" to "mmrhmso goodmrhrmmm."

But to channel Gruebeard, I think I'm too lazy to do that to a whole turkey, plus tiny fridge. Probably going to stick with getting food out the day before, and then eating it during the MST3k marathon.

My folks haven't done turkey for years now. We usually do a beef tenderloin with horseradish. Which is factually better on all levels than turkey.

Holy shit, Hillary's campaign should have just released them, because honestly? They make her look good. Articulate, well informed, and talking about foreign policy, diplomacy, the need for intelligent regulation on banks in order to restore trust between people and banks, and banks and government, because when all three trust each other, the economy benefits. Honestly, it's hard not to read that and think, "This is definitely someone who is qualified to be President."

However, the phrasing, argumentation, etc she uses makes her look more like what the Republicans used to be than a modern day Democrat. The point's been made before that this year, the choice is between a republican and Trump.

They might not have been allowed to per their agreement with Goldman Sachs, since GS paid for them. It's not the weirdest things for companies/events to require such things for paid speeches.

Brexit in trouble - court rules that the parliament must vote on it, it can't be decided unilaterally by the government - ie, via referendum.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-37857785

Parliament must vote on whether the UK can start the process of leaving the EU, the High Court has ruled.

This means the government cannot trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty - beginning formal exit negotiations with the EU - on its own.

Theresa May says the referendum - and existing ministerial powers - mean MPs do not need to vote, but campaigners called this unconstitutional.

The government is appealing, with a further hearing expected next month.
Huh.

Makes me wonder when a referendum is effective and when it isn't?

It depends on if it's a binding or non-binding referendum, and rules on international treaties, such as becoming a member of the EU, might not be up to the branch that offered the referendum.

A little bit of what everyone else said.

They're effective on your ballot issues during elections, right? I've always assumed they're already written up as laws to be put into effect after the election. Or at least with a minimum of legislative effort.

But when a referendum's question is "Do y'all want to secede?" there's no negotiated laws, contracts or agreements behind that question set up ready to be enacted. The question is really "do y'all want us to set about seceding?" And thus all the legal, political hurdles that would have to be faced still have to be faced.

CNN's Arwa Damon and her camera man are brave fuckin' people (You know, the soldiers too).

This is all taken during the current battle to retake Mosul.

War correspondents like this are invaluable in teaching folk that war isn't Call of Duty or a Michael Bay movie.

Goddamn. That reporter, or hell, everyone in that video is far braver than I would ever be.

Arwa Damon is fucking fearless, I don't think anyone can deny that. Those soldiers she's with if they're captured will be killed horribly, her camera man too, but if she's caught she's basically in for a fucking nightmare existence for as long as she lives.

Silly noob-ish question. What is the difference between a missile and a precision-guided rocket artillery shell? The coverage of that ship's gun is unclear or assumes you know already.

That's like saying "what's the point of having the biggest dick if it's too big to use?". The point is to have the biggest dick.
I read that the guy with the biggest dick cannot have vaginal intercourse and gets light-headed when he has a full erection, so I'm not sure that's a good analogy.

EDIT: or it's a perfect analogy for our ducked up military budgeting.

Welp, today is the political junkie's Super Bowl Sunday.

Except instead of counting the number of yards gained or points scored, they're looking at the number of states won and votes cast.

I've heard that he could have PIV sex, it's just unlikely because it's so hard to find someone with a vagina able to accommodate him. I've heard the light-headed comment before, but am not sure how much of a difference his fully-inflated member will make to the normal 5l volume of blood people normally carry around, since a person can conceivably outright lose enough blood to fill a wine bottle without much effect.

As Jon Stewart said, today is the day we can test the accuracy of our polls.

I think it's how they're fired and how the guidance system works. Like, a missile is launched and has its own tracking system to keep it on target. A smart bomb or smart artillery shell has to have an outside designation painting the target, which it will adjust to make sure it hits. But honestly, I'm not sure.

The line really gets blurred when you get to things like TOW missiles, and if the precision guided shells are submunitions like the BATS (Brilliant Anti-Tank Submunition). TOW missiles are "Towed Optical-guidance Wire" missiles, in which the missile is literally trailing a wire and the operator guides the missile with a control on the launcher. BATS are carried in an artillery rocket, which bursts open and each submunition, using acoustic and infra-red targeting, selects an armored target and guides itself to it.
