Am I wrong to like the original more pixelated look?

This looks like it was run through some cheap SNES emulator filters.

I don't think I can handle Bioware's juvenile savior fantasies anymore.

Their games are WAY too full of people praising you for every action you take.

Yeah, there's kind of a sheen on it that takes away some of the edge. Which fit with the original game.

I still think it looks great and I'll definitely get it as soon as I can. Looks like us Steamers will be waiting a little longer since it's on PS4 first.

That gameplay! That music! Those powers!

They should really be charging non-backers for the added content. I do not regret double-dipping on Shovel Knight so I can feel like I threw them some more over this.

I mean, Plague of Shadows had a lot of gameplay changes just by having you play as Plague Knight instead of Shovel Knight, but most of the game was pretty much the same. This ... new score from what I've heard, they're adding stages, new bosses, revamping old bosses to work against Specter Knight's particular abilities. This is just crazy.

And then there's still another free update campaign sometime after that, though they've said they want to "finish" Shovel Knight in 2017.

I don't know. Speaking as a newly christened "shoveller," I kind of appreciate they're not charging for the extra content. It's still essentially the same core game. Same engine, same sprites, mostly the same bosses, same enemies for the most part (I think; I spotted at least the ghost enemy). I haven't played the first expansion with Plague Knight, but I assume you replay the game with him, with the same map? You look at, say, Witcher 3: Blood & Wine, which was a HUGE amount of new content, with a whole new map to explore, new enemies, quests, side-quests, etc. It was almost an entirely different game on its own and definitely worth paying. I'm not sure if I agree it applies in this case in the same way.

That's true, too. I'm not saying they couldn't have made it DLC and charged like $5. I think it's amazing they haven't when any greedy developer/published would've done it in a heartbeat. Like Witcher 3's insane amount of free DLC, that they're not is both a testament to the devotion to their fans and the game's success. Shovel Knight is already a huge success, with amazing reviews from both professional reviewers and an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam. It earned many Game of the Year awards last year. Having finally played it for myself, I can see why. They deserve every ounce of success. I imagine it's also sold incredibly well already.

Also, this is now making me feel like cracking open the game again, finishing the New Game+ mode, and then do Plague of Shadows.

I get where you're coming, Nick. I think I'm looking at it upon merits of the game rather than industry-wide. I would've happily paid $5 for Plague Knight's campaign, whereas there's a lot of Dragon Age/Mass Effect DLC that feels like a rip-off, for example. You're probably right that that's not necessary; I should say if it wasn't free, I'd have paid for it.

It looked like Ultron to me. Ultron possibly merged with Sigma.
That makes more sense. Still, if they aren't allowed to pull from characters licensed to Fox, is at least like to see them use comics characters, not just movie characters. Ms. Marvel's polymorphic powers would be fun.

Guess I should just be happy we're getting X.

MvC3 was kind of okay, never had as much fun with it as I did 2, so I'm not super hyped for this one. Will have to see who else makes the roster. I'm sure we'll see Frank West again with DR4 coming, and I'd be pretty happy to get some DarkStalkers. Marvel-wise I can guarantee we'll get at least Black Bolt and/or Medusa to keep pushing Inhumans over Mutants.

Fucking for real ...

I can understand skewing things away from mutants in the game, but Wolverine is practically the face for the Marvel side, and by the time this game comes out Wolverine won't even be in the Fox movies anymore, so they're not really promoting Fox by having Wolverine in the game.

Well, with the Inhumans being banished from the movies since Perlmutter was also banished from the movies division, I doubt you'll see as much pushing of them anymore.

They can hang out with the Agents of Shield in complete and utter obscurity.

Here's some actual info:

They learned from Street Fighter 5, there'll actually be an arcade mode.

WHICH BY THE WAY CAPCOM I AM STILL WAITING FOR BEFORE YOU GET DOLLAR ONE FOR SF5.

I could actually see them doing Agent Coulson as the Marvel "joke" character this time around, using his artificial hand and SHIELD gadgets for his moves. Maybe pulling out the Bambino or calling the Helicarrier to deliver his supers. Nick Fury would work for this too.

I hope Kamala Khan turns up in this. In addition to a fun play style, I can only imagine how she'd be reacting to a crossover event like this.

Also, I'm kind of hoping for Dr. Octopus. When someone did some data mining on MvC3, the code showed that both Frank West and Dr. Octopus were originally planned. Frank made the cut for the Ultimate version, but Doc Ock could offer some neat possibilities.

I'm trying to think of more Capcom representation that'd be good, but they've kinda been dicking over some of their properties of late. I would love to see some kind of Monster Hunter representation, but since there aren't much in the way of repeated characters besides the monsters, which are enormous, the best I could hope for is some kind of Palico thing, which I don't see as likely.

I don't really care for the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur comic, but her being a gadget-based hero who calls in Devil Dinosaur for some moves would be fun. Maybe Capcom could do an equivalent with a Palico and Zinogre or something.

I assume Phoenix Wright has been in one of these games before? Because if not, he should be.

He was added into MvC3 Ultimate. They made him kind of a joke character who powers up by gathering evidence.

Honestly, considering how much Marvel has been pushing Squirrel Girl, I wouldn't be surprised if she popped up.

Squirrel Girl is one of my favorite comics, but I don't know. She'd be kinda OP considering she's unbeatable :p.

My ideal choice would be Gene from Godhand, using the Godhand to become briefly super powered as an Ultimate and using his God Reels to unleash a random super attack (including the wacky stuff like Ballbuster, Pan Drop, and Beg for Mercy). Another possibility would be something like Harman Smith from Killer 7 and letting him use special attacks based on all of the Killer 7. Samanosuke Akechi/Juubei from Onimusha would be cool... let him switch weapons mid-battle for new moves. I'd say Ryu from Breath of Fire but we already have a Ryu. Asura from Asura's Wrath? Sissel from Ghost Trick?

Really, Capcom has a lot of good choices. They just never use them.

He was in the last game, as a sort of all-or-nothing character. Basically, you had a move that let you discover evidence during battle. If it was the wrong piece of evidence, you could throw it as move... but if you got all three correct pieces of evidence, he could enter Turnabout Mode on a successful OBJECTION! and become the strongest character in the game.
