[Brazelton] Chester Bennington, Lead Singer of Linkin Park

What the fuck?!

I liked a few of their songs but I was not a big fan overall. It's still rather sad, though.

They were one of those bands it was "cool to hate loudly," like Nickelback or Creed. Though Creed really IS awful.

But whether you liked them or not, Linkin Park was definitely a huge influence in the sound of rock in the first decade of the new century.

Their biggest hits were Numb, Faint, In the End, Breaking the Habit, and of course, the often mocked Crawling.

Oh thank goodness. He tried so hard...[DOUBLEPOST=1500578155,1500578124][/DOUBLEPOST]That made more sense as a reply to the hoax.

Like I said, though, I now seriously don't know which is true. He hasn't tweeted since yesterday, but otherwise....either could be the hoax right now, and I'm leaning towards "dead", sadly

Not to mention the stuff they recorded under the name Fort Minor, because their label wanted to keep their rap and alt rock separate.

Wait, THEY were Fort Minor!? I didn't mind Lincoln Park, but I really liked what I heard of Fort Minor.

I mean their last song was HOOOOOOORIBLE...but I still liked their earlier stuff. The wife is going to be upset. She's a huge fan.

Same guys, but a different lead. Fort Minor was a solo-ish project of Mike Shinoda, but everyone from Linkin Park participated as well.
The wiki article calls it a "side project", but on the CD from Fort Minor containing Remember the Name, there's a few verbal tracks where they say it was the same band originally, and they tried to put the rap songs on the same album as the rock, but the label wouldn't let them.

I mean, Fort Minor was Mike Shinoda's side project. I doubt it was because they wanted to keep rap and rock separate, considering Shinoda would rap on Linkin Park songs.

-edit-
Whoops, I see I missed some posts.

Also apparently Chester and Chris Cornell were really good friends and today would have been Chris' birthday :(

For some reason I always mixed up Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. I didn't listen to either group, but this is still sad news. Suicide is bullshit. We only get one chance at life. Throwing it away just eats me up.

That's kind of an understandable mistake, they were similar sounds and both dabbled heavily in nu-metal rap-rock, though LB was a little more Bro-Tastic and LP was more Emo, and LB was a little earlier in the spectrum. I can kinda forgive anyone who confuses Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, Papa Roach, Staind, POD, and Linkin Park with each other.
