Need a new phone

Went to the beach last week - yay! Phone doesn't charge now - boo! Need a replacement phone. I have verizon (which I guess I am ok with). My soon to be dead phone is an LG G4 which i like okay. The camera is pretty great, but has been slow lately so I'm not totally upset, but I don't necessarily want or need to get the latest and greatest. There's a new S8 at a local walmart for $299 32Gb (I think) and has expandable storage which I like. Swappa has a Pixel 2 for ~$180 64Gb with no expandable storage, but with a decent camera apparently, and I use all the Googles so that would be nice. Swappa has Pixel 3 for about twice as much, but not twice the phone IMO. Which would you suggest? I am leaning towards to Pixel 2

Any other suggestions would be nice too. I don't think I want an iPhone due to the bloated prices (and I like Android) though I do like some of their phones.

Cheers!

Look for a place that sells used or refurbished phones. We got my wife's last iPhone there for about $150. And, of course, it works perfectly and she loves it.

How much do you care about fair and unbiased news reporting? I just ask because I'm very fond of my Huawei, but for some reason Fox.com redirects to the Peking Times...:aaah:

More seriously, the pixel 2 will likely not be receiving a lot of support and upgrades/patches anymore, and in that sense the 3 might be a better choice. Can't decide for you if that's worth it, though - it depends on how much you're going to use it and what for.

I'm not sure about Huawei. Are they any worse than FB and Google? IDK.

My current LG is a refurb and has been great. I am totally fine with refurb stuff.

As far as spying and stuff is concerned? No, I don't think so - Huawei isn't really under scrutiny for invading individual's privacy, after all, nobody seems to care about that - they're being looked into for spying on networks and state stuff. While I hate to say it, I wouldn't buy a Huawei in the US at the moment simply because there might actually come a ban or a block on updates and such.

Since you don't mind refurbs, I'd suggest maybe a Samsung S9?

...That was me, of course. Blame the Chinese government.

But, yeah, Pixel 3 or Samsung S9 are more or less the same price, but the S9 has expandable storage.

I don't understand the fixed storage. It makes very little sense to me. Maybe everyone streams nowadays and doesn't "lug" around their MP3 collection anymore.

I need to get my hands on one. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have lots of places where I don't have a data connection (and, in fact, just recently went back to an unlimited data plan).
It's made more sense for me to put 12gig of music on the phone. Easier to manage playlists that way with certain apps, too.

I think that's what he means - why would you only want fixed storage?
I have a 16gb phone, with a 128gb sd card in it...without music.

Hey, I'm writing this very post on it!
...but yes. It's a huawei p9 lite, so that's...3 generations ago, the lighter/smaller model. But I'm unwilling to shell out another few hundred euros for a phone.

I still love my Pixel. As in a Pixel 1. You can probably find one for pretty cheap.
I'm also on a pixel 1! If I were up "upgrade" it would probably be to a Galaxy 9. But I may be a minority in feeling like I don't need the absolute latest phone available and would rather save $800 buying something far cheaper but still pretty damn comparable

I mean, I can't really even conceive of what I'd need "more phone" than what I have... to do. Granted, I don't use it for gaming (and very limited browsing... basically only checking HF on the go in small moments of downtime), but I mean.. it's a phone. It texts. It takes pictures and video. It can use wifi and bluetooth. It plays music, and I can do plex and netflix and crunchroll on it if I want. I can control my chromecasts with it. Or anything else that has an android app. I mean... what more do I need?

You can't play fortnite and dab on the h8ers

The Pixel 1 also has a headphone jack.

At least unless it shorts randomly in the middle of the night and screeches in your ear when you just fell asleep.

Why you probably shouldn't go with Boost at the moment:

So basically Sprint had to sell off Boost to Dish in order to make it okay to merge with T-Mobile. As part of the deal, T-Mobile had to promise to support Boost service on their towers into 2023 in order to allow Dish time to complete the acquisition and transition. But now T-Mobile says they are going to cut off the CDMA service that Boost customers would need as of January 1, 2022, which last I checked is just under 135 days away.

Which is exactly why I moved away from Boost. Now we have to do the same for my wife.

I was going to tag you specifically, but couldn't remember if you said you'd left or were just in the process of working up the spit to do it.
