Movie News & Miscellany

So, it's been announced that Robert Pattinson will play Batman in Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman film. The role originally intended for Ben Affleck (who was also originally meant to write and direct).

Honestly? I think it's a good casting. If you've seen Pattinson in literally ANYTHING ELSE but Twilight, you'll see a really great actor. He's admitted he hated doing those films and basically slept walked through them for the money. But as Batman/Bruce Wayne? I think he could do a really solid job.

It's not a casting choice I would've thought of myself, but I believe Pattinson definitely has the acting chops to pull it off.

I don’t think he looks right for the part, but I also said that about Heath Ledger when he was announced for the Joker 12 years ago. That turned out okay I guess...

DCWB movies are so hit and miss I don't really even care that there is going to be another Batman movie.... kinda done with being burned.

I like this idea, but I think I'd prefer someone else as Terry. No reflection of RPatz's acting skills, but probably someone a bit younger and a slightly different physical type. To me, Terry looks more like a Ryan Potter or Charles Melton, off the top of my head.

I wrote a thingy on Twitter.

Though oddly enough, I'm not seeing as much outrage as I expected for Pattinson's casting. More people than I thought have said, "Yeah Twilight sucks, but he's a good actor."

It's a shit headline. From the article:

"the estate has refused to allow the series to be set during any period other than the Second Age of Middle-earth. This means Amazon’s adaptation will not cross over at all with events from the Third Age, which were dramatised in Peter Jackson’s Oscar-winning trilogy and sees hobbit Frodo Baggins destroy the One Ring. "

It's telling the story of the previous fight against Sauron, not the one in LotR. I don't think that's necessarily an issue at all - at least not nearly as much as it would be if they were trying to do a Lord of the Rings show without showing any of the central events of that story.

Yeah, that's a garbage headline.

And as interesting as it might've been to adapt the First Age depicted in the Silmarillion, the budget would've been out of this world (not that Big Bezos can't afford it). The Second Age allows more familiar dynamics and even characters while still giving breathing room for other aspects less touched-upon in the books.

The map Amazon teased included Numenor, which would indicate the show is second age. It takes place literally centuries before LOTR, in parts of Middle Earth unrelated to LOTR.

This is like if someone made a show based on Genghis Khan and ancient Mongolia and then someone else wrote an article about how the show wasn't allowed to tell the story of like, Mao.

*Edit* I'm not super well versed in middle Earth lore so I'm mistaken. Its not literally centuries. It's literally Millenia.

For reference for others: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Arda

The funniest part here is that it's on Wikipedia. Not some LotR fan-wiki, but real wikipedia. I think that's awesome.

The only funny part is that they let it stay that way...

Wikipedia used to be full of stuff like that back in the day before they decided to make it all more "professional"....

Nah, i'm totally not pissed at them removing my corrected and remodelled creature lists from the HoMM5 articles... not at all...

With all the hullabaloo about Spidey, this news slipped a bit under the radar, but Matrix 4 is a go.

Apparently Keanu and Carrie-Anne Moss are returning. This is despite their characters both dying in the last film.

It's going to take place 100 years after the third one and they'll be programs to help train the new young resistance members.

I saw the announcement, but after the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movies being pretty "meh" compared to the 1st one, I didn't think it was that great an idea.
