We're getting PP as Prime Minister aren't we?

The Liberals could not be any shitter at wanting to stay in power right now if they were directly campaigning for PP.

Also, NDP-wise, the entire party needs a shakeup and Singh needs to fucking go.

Maybe Sophie will marry PP.

I just read about that. I was actually talking about blaming provincial governments for everything and pledging to do nothing about housing and cost of living problems.

Ontario NDP kick out a disabled member for using the word apartheid in a speech asking for a ceasefire in Gaza and for Canada to stop funding apartheid.

So in Alberta, we have a complete and absolute moratorium on green energy projects because they harm the beauty of Alberta. We also have a tax on electric vehicles because the government requires you to pay recompense to the holy oil sands for refusing their gift.

I can't wait for the Holy Republic of Alberta's state religion to proclaim the oil sands the body of Christ and the pure garbage bitumen as his blood. You only get into heaven based on the quantity of His Gift you've consumed through your life. Solar power is worshipping a false sun god and is punishable via monetary restitution to Her (Danielle Smith) Holy Church.

Fort MacMurray, the hub for the oilsands in this province, has had the nickname Mordor for decades, because that's what the whole area looks like. There's also the glistening tailing lakes (they're called ponds, but they're bigger than some actual named lakes), so toxic they have to shoot at passing birds to scare them from landing in it.

That second last sentence sure sticks out like a fucking sore thumb. Glad my future Prime Minister is gleeful at someone's death before without any kind of due process. REALLY clashes with the last one.

Sounds like we're gearing up for an election. Barf. 60 days of election campaigning will feel like an eternity. Plus we've got the municipal one this year as well. It's already dragging on and we're only a few days into it!

Only 60 days?!? Oh, you sweet summer country... *cries in US politics*

BC Con mailer sent out to supporters. It denied the existence of graves at residential schools and accused anyone making claims of historical abuse of trying to get rich via what they called "the indian industry".

They get some latitude on the first one as there hasn't been proof of graves, only anomalies in the ground so far which could or could not be graves. The second is gross.

The second bit could describe how the media dealt with the issue. Mass Graves! sells a lot more commercials than anomalies.

New online Harms bill being rushed through Ottawa is a problematic peice of legislation that will be abused by anyone looking to remove a political rival.

Offence motivated by hatred

(1) Everyone who commits an offence under this Act or any other Act of Parliament, if the commission of the offence is motivated by hatred based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for life"

It doesn't even matter what the underlying crime is. If they can toss "motivated by hatred" at you during the charging process, wham! life imprisonment is on the table.

That provision alone should see the bill completely spiked, but, of course, this Parliament is beyond stupid so it'll likely sail through.

Is calling parliament stupid a hatred based offense related to mental disability?

Better yet, would trying to lock someone up for life for the crime of spray painting "Mary Simon licks tires!" on a wall be considered "motivated by hatred?"

IF this passed (and it's a big IF), the first case would likely result in the Supreme Court saying "Nah, this is Cruel and Unusual punishment" and it would get tossed.

"physical disability", so calling someone with glasses four-eyes is now a life sentence offense? Yikes.
Only if somebody with the favour of the courts deems it so. Think this is more in response to the f Trudeau merch and sentiment.

But as somebody who voted lib in the last two elections, I'm increasingly supporting that sentiment and would love to see a party I can vote for with pride instead of the poorest choices I've ever seen in my life.

Halifax has an election coming up to vote in a new mayor. It seems like Andy Fillmore is set to win, based on most polls. Personally, I'm voting for Waye Mason, who seems to share most of my ideals.

The local cycling advocacy group sent a survey out to all the mayoral candidates, and for each district candidate.

It's kind of funny how most of the candidates are showing support for the cycling community in one way or another, and then there's Greg Frampton doing the big combo breaker, who's like "NOPE, FUCK YOU, CYCLISTS!"

Personally, I'm in District 5 and intend on voting for Sam Austin. The other guy share some of my ideals, but he's an overreactive asshole on social media. I would not want someone with a short fuse like that to represent me.

Over on Twitter, I responded to an anti-cycling comment made by Greg Frampton. I guess he didn't take kindly to my response.

I think my other reply is what triggered the block. I've never been blocked by a mayoral candidate before. Achievement unlocked!

Large screenshots, so under the spoiler tag they go!
