I questioned that, too. Though it really depends on what fictional lore you're talking about; there's a lot of different ways to define ghoul. It would be a very tall order to choose an undead that is always nocturnal, and never bites people, in all folklore and fiction.
I get to be the overly explainey guy this time! As if I am not always that...
Anyway, traditional mythology ghouls were not undead. They come from Arabian folklore (ghul) and are a type of djinn, which would make them equivalent to demons or devils in european mythology. They were known to be greedy and gluttonous monsters that ate dead flesh.
They crossed over into european folklore mostly through the translation of the novel Arabian Nights, though the translation was rather loose.

I have to share this somewhere because I won't comment on the original post: short version- a mom at my son's school tried to purchase some "spirit wear", and she says the preview of the order didn't show exactly what she was getting. Anyway, she's unhappy with what she received, but the company won't take it back because it's considered a custom order. And I can't say I blame her for being disappointed, because...

Remember when I said earlier I said I had to dress up in a chem suit to run a hose with hot water? Yeah. To give you an idea, here is the picture of me in the suit, which adds about 50 pounds thanks to wearing about 4 layers of clothing. I swear I'm not as fat as the picture makes me look.
