Some more gems from last night as they occur to me, while I wait for people to get ready -

Before dinner, the Mom called me over in the presence of the Elder brother and his wife and said something to the effect of "You were so talkative yesterday, and today you've been so quiet! I hope we can help you feel welcome here" etc etc and of course I laid on thick how I felt so welcomed and at home in this emotional abattoir of awkwardness, and she doesn't even let me finish before she formally introduces me to her eldest son and his wife. His wife at least, puts in the effort to be genial but Eldest himself is clearly only posturing for Mom's sake. Once the exchange is over, he goes back to pretending I don't exist. Which is probably the best I could hope for.

At Dinner, the Mom had us all go around and say something we were thankful for, as well as say something that we were specifically thankful for about the person to our left. It was at that moment that it crystallized before my eyes how much nobody wanted to be here. The insincerity and dissembling was so thick you'd think it was fresh off the whale carcass. Nobody wants to get attached to Eldest's wife or new son because, as I explained before, they expect they will be out of their lives by the end of April, if his pattern holds. At least all of the younger brother's family was sitting together so they got some genuine moments out of it.

Another surreal development - the Mom is absolutely riveted by watching Turkish telenovellas (with subtitles of course). Nothing wrong with that, but it's just so out of left field. She says they offer all the melodrama of the mexican ones, but their conservative nature means they're safe to have on with kids around.

DC it's Batman.
Marvel, well Taskmaster is okay, but a lot of the ancient marital artists would due well. The gods would struggle adapting for a bit. I think Puck would be an interesting choice, take away his curse and he gets stronger.

To piggyback off of what you’ve said, wouldn’t Shang-Chi be the hands down favorite to win any fight without powers or tech?

DC it's Karate Kid. Batman's good yeah but he's not put a Silver Age Kryptonian in a headlock good, prep time or no prep time.

Also, they've fought twice, 1st time KK won fair & square (although Bats did try & claim a rematch would be different), 2nd time while Batman did win he needed Black Lightning's help to do so (& KK was clearly winning that fight and not taking Bats seriously before BL interfered).

Heavy snow tonight, so took the back way home to avoid getting tangled up on the freeway.
For my troubles, slid into the guardrail at the back of a "T" intersection that hadn't been salted, even though I was trying so hard to behave myself.
Significant damage to L headlight and bumper area, little ding to rear bumper after it pivoted around to also smooch the guardrail due to feeling left out.
Gonna be a one-car family for a while, methinks. Local collision shops are backed up one or two months.
EDIT: Also it might be totaled. Yaaaay...

I don't know how you eat your hardboiled eggs, but apparently not sliced thinly and spread on a sandwich, or cut in two and dressed with salad, or whatever;

Got a lot of soft-boiled eggs when I had the flu as a kid because "they're easier to digest." Thanks to the experience, they're also easier to associate with puking, which is why I don't eat them as an adult. Hard-boiled are fine, tho.

Getting fucked over by a surprise bill. I went out and did deliveries until after midnight for a whopping $40 after gas. It's a start but damn, man. Hopefully my wife can get on disability soon.

Oh and also the guy I did shopping for and stayed in contact about all his picks that were out didn't tip! Went above and beyond for you, Travis, you and your way too many pack of tuna eating ass.

Egg doneness is the new steak.

I like eggs in ramen. I don't really care for boiled eggs though. I prefer soft scrambled or an omelet. Not runny Gordon Ramsey eggs.

Also, for whatever reason, I get a little grossed out cooking eggs and can't really eat what I cook, but if someone else cooks them then I don't have a problem.

I swear that my students' writing gets worse every year. The older ones are all right but the freshmen were in middle school when the pandemic hit. Their teachers didn't assign much in the way of reading assignments. A lot of my younger students NEVER read a book in high school and it shows. Their reading and writing proficiency is trash.

I love the foreign exchange students from the West Indies or West Africa, though. They are typically miles ahead of most of my American students.

New game I’ve been waiting for came out yesterday. New book I’ve been waiting for came out yesterday. Can’t enjoy either because I work all weekend and am sicker than shit. I honestly think I have covid again considering how fast it came in. Feeling great yesterday most of the day them about 4 or 5 I hit a wall hard.

Don’t mind me. I’m just whining and feeling sorry for myself.

Not really a whine for my part, but definitely on behalf of my wife. People are coming up to her and saying, "awww you're showing. When's the baby due?"

This really annoys her because she's still processing the miscarriage (very few people know). Also, she's putting on the holiday weight so when her aunt pats her stomach it comes across as exceptionally aggravating.

I got REALLY sick again after thanksgiving. Had to go to the doctor and get drugs. I don't know if it was a side of effect of the drugs but I
haven't been able to stop explosively shitting what looks like italian olive oil and spices bread dip and smells like a fire in a human hair wig factory
for more than a week now. It's exhausting, every day is a struggle against dehydration, I'm weak, and nauseous, and I'm just ready for it all to be over. At least I seem to have caught the initial upper resp infection RIGHT before it would have turned into full blown pneumonia. But dear GOD....

I'm calculating my students' grades right now. One student showed up a grand total of ONE TIME the entire semester. I take off points for absences so he has guaranteed himself a failing grade. I know he'll have a laundry list of excuses and I'll have to professionally rebut every attempt. It's times like these when I just want to tell the student "you get nothing, you lose, good day, sir." But no, I maintain decorum and tell them to check the syllabus even though I'm itching to zing them.
