Got called into the office yesterday for a meeting with my boss, the AV director (my boss's boss), and the head of HR who also happens to be vice pres/COO (so pretty much EVERYBODY's boss other than our president/CEO).

As the meeting was on a monday, I was pretty sure I wasn't getting fired, at least.

Turns out there's been some changes at the DOL to the definitions of Exempt and Non-Exempt employees, so now they've changed me to Exempt - IE, they've made me salaried instead of Hourly. A few years ago, I might have been mad about this because I was getting overtime like crazy for all the field work I was doing. But the last couple years - especially since I got promoted to lead programmer - I haven't had much call to put in overtime at all. But still to sweeten the deal/lube the shaft, they gave me what amounts to a 10% raise over what I'd have been pulling in without overtime. And now I don't have to clock out for Jury Duty. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

For reasons I'm still not entirely clear on, though, I've still got to clock in and out and submit time sheets - which was not something I had to do as a salaried employee at the Radio station.

But I still feel like I'm coming out slightly ahead on this deal. Especially since when I tried to quit last year because a competitor was headhunting me, they drove a dump truck full of Canyonero money up to my door to get me to stay, and I kinda came to terms with the thought that this was probably going to be my last raise for quite a long time... but I guess not!
 
My husband has been salaried for 20 years and doesn't have to clock in/out but he still has to bullshit a 40 hr/week timecard even when it's a blatant lie.

Every place seems to do it different. I was salaried for all 16 years at the radio station and didn't have to do either of those things.

That’s what I’m procrastinating on right now! It’s for the sake of assigning cost to jobs and there’s very little oversight to the accuracy but I truly hate it.

I worked at a school for almost ten years that made all teachers come to the front office to sign in and sign out on a time sheet. It was obnoxious.

The front office at the school I teach now can go weeks without seeing me sometimes.
 
We have to keep track of all tasks and which client the work is for any work >15 min. I am salaried and I ball park every thing. There is no way I am writing down every little thing I do in a day. I would spend 20 min a day just doing time tracking. they say it's to know how much we should be charging clients for activities (report writing, lab work, etc).

Billables to a client were important, yet nonsensical. I remember having to do that in my development days.
