And Stonecold was much better in the WWE than in his acting career. What's the point?
I really thought my point would be clear with a bit of thought as it's a really simple piece of logic: If Firefly wasn't cancelled, Nathan Fillion would be busy doing that show and not Castle.

And so: I enjoy Castle so I am happy that Firefly was canceled.

Eeh, there are a few years between. I'd have been satisfied with three seasons of Firefly. That would mean it got a chance, and perhaps cancellation wouldn't come like a thief in the night. Joss could have written a proper end.

Joss has NEVER written an ending when he wanted it. Buffy's came too late, Angel's came 3-4 seasons too soon. This is simply a case of not getting to write one and having to do a movie instead.

Still, there is a lot to be said about keeping a show a short runner... Would Cowboy BeBop have been a better series if they did another 2 seasons and 2 movies? I'd like to think not.

Hmm... I loved Fillion in Firefly... He's a great actor, I think.

Would you recommend that my GF and I should give Castle a try?

It can get a little bit standard-detective-show, and a couple of the supporting cops are really stock characters.

HOWEVER, the other characters pop and have more personality than most entire seasons of Law and Order. Fillion is amazing and hilarious, and his family is pretty interesting. The writer aspect and meta-jokes really surprised me in a good way.

That's what I wanted to hear. I love the funny side of Fillion, in Firefly, he really cracked me up... Cool, so... Castle, it shall be...

I think, that's a good way to fix my Firefly-craving after having finished watching firefly and serenity. To be able to see at least Filion acting again. :)

I'll add my voice to the Castle crowd. I love Castle's family, and the dynamic between him and the cop too (horrible with names). Every episode has been a joy to watch.

The cop's name is Nikki Heat.

It's funny: that's the only name I can recall from the show. Sure, his last name is Castle, but I only know that because it's the name of the show; I couldn't what his first name is even under waterboarding.

I'm pretty sure that's Castle's character's name. The one based on the woman cop.

I fell in love with castle. So much so that I bought last season on Itunes and I usually steer clear of buying shows on there.

I love his mother (she's the same actress who played greg's mother in Dharma and Greg)

Castle rides purely on Fillion's charm. Otherwise it's pretty lackluster. Don't get me wrong, I watch and enjoy it, but if Fillion weren't there I wouldn't. There wouldn't be anything left to watch.

What makes me curious, are there any other TV-Shows (or movies) with Nathan Fillion in a main role?

There was one called Drive. I think it was on Fox.

It got canceled after like ... 4 episodes.

Three Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place eventually had him as a featured character, which is one more reason a large part of that series was untempered awesome. Died badly, but there was a lot of good there.

Yes it was a shame Firefly was canceled. Fox was probably the worst channel it could have possibly been on. Imagine if it was on Syfy instead, nestled snugly between Stargate and BSG. With such a built in audience of geeks it would have done just as well as those shows.

The movie was far from excellent. It was horrible, a neat way of seeing everyone back together playing their roles in a mediocre film. The assassin was by far the most entertaining part of the movie, great acting.
I actually got into firefly after seeing the movie. Which I thought was excellent.

So ha!

This. Absolutely gorram this.

If firefly would have been aired on Scifi instead of Fox, I guess we could still be watching new episodes right now... Or would at least have had 4 Seasons and proper ending...

*sigh*

I wish I had the possibilty to retcon life...

mm...I did really like the series, wasn't too hot on the movie. That said ,I own special editions of both on DVD nowadays :-P

Still, Firefly had its share of stock characters too :-P

That aside, Nathan Fillion is the number one on my list of guys I'd go gay for. Instantly.

Okay, the GF and I finished watching the show, and yesterday we watched Serenity.

As I thought, she went batshit insane over the death of Walsh, and I can completely understand that. WTF, it wasn't necessary to kill him of, or to kill Shepherd Book... I still cannot forgive Wheadon his killing of those 2 Characters. Ah, what the hell, it's over and now it's time to move over to castle.

Just finished the first 3 Episodes of Castle. I have to admit, Fillion is pure gold in this show, also the detective...

This nonsensical post was brought to you by me.

I'm actually still pissed about how he killed off Anya in Buffy.

WHAT THE HELL??????

Xander's reaction? "oh, well, the love of my life and former fiance was just cut damn near in half.... what's for dinner?

Maybe it's the cynic in me, but I'm not all that sure putting Firefly on SyFy (or SciFi, for that matter) would have been all that great of an idea. Yes, the show may have been granted more than half a season to run, but SciFi network execs also seem to like to butt in where they don't belong when it comes to shows. Take BSG for example. Season 1 was great, I really enjoyed it. Season 2 was pretty good as well. Season 3 started to get a bit trite and a lot of the action elements were shoved aside for more political elements (which weren't all that bad, really) and personal (aka soap opera) elements which were terrible. Add in the fact that BSG had the misfortune of running into the writer's guild strike, which forced the 4th season to be split in two; and the incredibly bizarre scheduling that SyFy seems to enjoy doing (You like this show now, wait until you get to see the next season in 3 years! You'll love it then!!! Three years later: Hey... where'd all of the fans for this go?!), and I'm not sure you get a successful series. Plus, if they put it on SyFy, we'd have to endure 45 spin offs based loosely on the original series done by staff writers at the network who can occasionally pull off a good station identification spot.
