I'm salivating.... but I need your help.

Is going to be released soon, and as I draw closer and closer to buying my Xbox360, finally getting myself back into the fighting games kick, I begin to think about what arcade cabinet style stick would be best?

Now previously I was debating between:

but my biggest problem in deciding was that I couldn't seem to find a VERY specific set of stats for the sticks, such as "weight" and "material of components" which is the deal breaker when buying a stick for the next few years.

Now I know I could just modify my:

to play on Xbox360, but I'll be honest, I'm great at repairing arcade sticks, but I've never modified one, so I'd probably be more inclined to sell mine for $50 and put that towards the new stick.

Opinions? Comments? Anyone able to get a definitive stat sheet on the 3 I'm debating between?

are there any actual advantages between a $160 stick and a $60 stick? I've considered getting something for my 360, so at least when I suck at SC4 its not entirely because of the xbox controller.

If you want to get a very very good stick "out of the box", go for the MadCatz TE stick. It is manufactured with complete arcade parts, i.e. it has a Sanwa JLF Stick and sanwa obsn buttons. The same stuff you find in the SF IV arcade cab.

If you root for the standard Mad Catz arcade stick, it is very easy to swap the mediocre mad-catz stick and buttons for some Sanwa parts, almost "plug and play".

I'd say, go for the MadCatz Marvel TE stick... I take it, you're quite a MvC2 fan?

Thanks Andi, were you the one who built his own arcade stick a while back? I'm trying to remember who that was. As far as fan, yeah I love MvC2 but am more a fighting game fan in general. Looking forward to SF4 and Blazblu.

There are indeed great differences. I couldn't believe it myself in the beginning, but...

Let me explain:

I started with the "Hori EX 2 Fighting Stick" for the Xbox, which has all Hori-Parts build into it.

I then constructed and build my own Joystick with all Sanwa original Arcadeparts, and the difference... it really showed... Comparing the two sticks, I noticed the following:

The joystick itself is much more precise, it has a "stronger" feel to it and the movements are much smoother.
The buttons... Sanwa buttons are much better than the stock hori buttons... They are much more sensitive and also... more precise. With the standard hori buttons, after some heavy usage, it happened, that they had some kind of "delay", e.g.: if I was pressing the buttons, sometimes they reacted, sometimes they didn't and sometimes they reacted kinda late... That's why I decided to swap the buttons in my hori stick. It went from this:

So yes, there is quite a difference between a cheap and a more expensive stick.

yeah, stock hori parts tend to let you down after a bit. They're a good beginner arcade stick for getting used to using them. Then, you graduate up to a stick with better parts.

good to know. Maybe I should just learn to sodder and make my own stick. Easier to justify the purchase as a DIY learning project, then to pay that much for a stick dedicated to only one game (for now).

My only other arcade experience is wiring up Happ controls for a Jamma harness. Really need to build the enclosure so I can use my neo-geo 4 slot board more.

And thanks for the compliment. I decided to go a little bit the "artsy" way with this one. I have to admit though, that I didn't build the case myself with this one. It's from www.ecksnine.com . I just fell in love with his cases and just needed to have one. :)

Ah, and Shego... For choosing you stick, important it is to know where you come from.

This is almost a question of faith (and being used to): Do you prefer American-Style joysticks (like the happ competition) or japanese-style joysticks like sanwa or seimitsu? They feel drastically different, due to their different types of construction.

Both, PS3 and Xbox 360 sticks have full compability with pc (windows).

But you may have donwload drivers for the 360 version. At least, I had to for the Hori fighting stick.

For the longest time I was 100% Happ style (American long cover) only. I had alot of trouble with the balljoint Sanwas until I got pretty deep into the Tekken circles. I can play on both styles with high rate of success but when given the option I tend to lean towards Happ.

I haven't seen Super Street Fighter IV mentioned anywhere else on the forums, so I figured this was a good place to make note of it. From Kotaku:
Super Street Fighter IV Confirmed, Is Standalone Title
8 additional characters are going to be added. So far T. Hawk and Dee Jay are confirmed as returning, and a new character Juri has been announced. "the game 'won't be sold at full price', and that those owning both the original and Super will are in store for an as-yet-unspecified treat."

@shego: it looks like those two are the same stick, the tournament edition of the mad catz stick, only differing in the covers. But the marvel vs capcom stick, the gamestop site doesn't explicetely mentions that the parts are sanwa parts, but it says "high quality". to be sure, I'd ask gamestop whether the mvc stick has full sanwa parts (which is likely, as sanwa parts definetely are high quality...).

I purchased my Xbox 360 Elite last night and am going to go pick up the Street Fighter IV TE Stick today if I don't hear about any major differences between it and the MvC2 stick other than palettes.

Then I'm debating between SF IV, KoF12 or Blazblue.

Omg, the "ball" style stick is SO AWKWARD for me. I'm going to be doing a bit of practice before taking on some challengers, but if someone really tried, I guarantee it'd be easy to find my gametag.
