That was good stuff...almost as good as the same old tired crap from the same old tired voices that followed. And now I've added to that same old tired crap.

You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around............
Well thanks for adding some tired old crap to the heap. :slywink:

It's pretty sad that I consider this forum classier than Kurt - and we purposefully try to be UNclassy. :(

I bet this e-mail was actually directed to a guy called Kurt, but the auto-fill in this Larry Enst's e-mail made him send it to Scott by error.

You know, that's a real possibility. If he typed in "Kurt" and hit enter it could have put in Scott's name.

Very interesting.

I'm so glad this forum is no longer associated with him or his crappy comic.

Man, I wish we were still part of Kurtz's forum. Dude fits right in with us. Always has, always will. Shame he never realized it . . . or maybe he did and was ashamed . . .

I wish to god I still had that animated .gif loop of Kurtz bashing himself in the face with keyboard.. *sigh*

This is the kind of email that you write because they pissed you off, but then you delete it or save it somewhere else instead of sending it.

Then you write a second email that says, "I will not be attending any of your events this year. I was most unhappy with your treatment of Mike Wieringo, and I thought your usage of his name as a promotion piece after his passing was grossly inappropriate. Unless Wizard events can address [list of issues in short bullet points], I really don't believe that it is worth my time to attend any future events you may hold."

I do wonder, though, whether the guy was trying to write an email to Kurt Busiek?

ie. The opposite of sending it and then posting both ends of the correspondence on your site for thousands of fans to see, and then also tweeting the StumbleUpon link to your site.

Though, I gotta say, from someone who's worked in email marketing before, mail merge emails are only a good idea if you have specific features you're trying to promote to customers (or in this case attendees). You also need a call to action at the end. There's nothing to react to in what Scott got.

And if the "sales manager" is trying to grab comics celebrities (or whatever) to speak at panels or events or something, vague form-letter-style emails are the worst possible way to do it because it shows that you don't actually care who you get.

Whoa Gruebeard, I haven't thought of it that way before. Maybe Kurtz is really the left side conjoined twin? Maybe him cutting all ties with us was a cry for help, an attempt to quell his inner douche-bag?

"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you."

Nah, even defending him for a joke leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I guess I don't get the history for his Wieringo hardon. Did Wizard run over Mike's cat or something?

Ringo and Scott were really great friends. Ringo's death..it really hit Scott hard, like a lot of people. Scott had just seen him recently at a convention, their booths were near each other, then not long after that, Ringo passed away..

Prior to Ringo dying, some places like Wizard, barely recognized his work. Now whether or not you think he was talented, thats your opinion I don't know, I think he was, Wizard..didnt really think much of him. BUT..as soon as he died and they saw the large pouring of emotion from the comic book & web comic communities..well they latched onto that quicker than a 10.0 CGC comic.. They named a comic panel after him, all kinds of shit whereas prior to his death, they never gave him the time of day.

Meanwhile, Scott, Waid, Quesada, a lot of the comic communities, etc started up the Mike Weiringo College Fund, which from what I've seen, has done decent at earning money for others in his name, a true honoring of his lifes work.

I mean Scott..handled this poorly, but I can understand why. He lost a great friend, one he was close to and this company shit all over him (Ringo).

Though, this letter is batshit stupid, and posting it on pvponline.com..well lets just say Scott needs to stick to mentioning twitter every post

Seems like a weird thing to get butthurt about.

At any rate, he's a tastemaker.

It makes me sad that he's pretending now that his tastemaker and podium comment was meant to be self deprecating.

(Or is he joking? It doesn't feel like it)

It's possible he doesn't know what self-deprecating means? I'm not sure.

I would think it's quite hard to be self-deprecating and come across as a total egomaniac - the two things seem completely in opposition to each other. I've never heard of someone being self-deprecating by saying "I’m a pioneer in my field and a “tastemaker” with a large podium, why would it be important to get my name right?"

What a dipshit.
